Labour seem ready to make YOU pay for their costly ideological hobby-horses… starting at the pumps

Fools on fuel

RAISING fuel duty in the Budget would be a kick in the teeth for Sun readers.

Before the election the Chancellor seemed clear she would not go there.

Rachel Reeves said Labour had always backed The Sun’s 14-year Keep It Down campaign, which persuaded successive Tory Chancellors to freeze and then cut the rate, saving drivers billions.

She vowed not to raise taxes on working people. And to make growth central to Labour’s mission for “change”.

A hike in fuel duty would betray every single solemn promise.

Slapping 7p on a litre, the staggering sum being considered by the Treasury, would punch working people full in the face, with an average £3.85 extra bill every time they fill up.

Higher pump prices would also hammer businesses and crush growth.

Labour says it is desperate to fill a “Tory black hole”, now supposedly up to £40billion. But look at its own spending, or pledges, so far:

Bribing Aslef and other unions with inflation-shattering rises to stop striking.

Giving away strategically priceless British territory in the Chagos Islands, then renting it back.

Launching Ed Miliband’s giant “GB Energy” folly. Bankrolling foreign countries’ climate action. Stashing billions more in a new “national wealth fund”.

That alleged black hole has mainly been created by Labour’s costly ideological hobby-horses.

And they seem ready to make YOU pay for it all. Starting at the pumps.

Mr Fickle

TORIES deporting illegal migrants: Bad. Labour deporting illegal migrants: Good.

This is the inescapable logic from the new Rwanda-style system Keir Starmer, incredibly, has signed off.

Starmer axed the actual Rwanda plan, our one deterrent against illegal migration, as soon as he became PM. He called it “immoral” and “completely wrong”.

Except he’s now decided that asylum seekers landing by boat on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia — still British, for now — will be flown thousands of miles to St Helena, a remote UK territory off the west coast of Africa.

From which we must conclude this:

Starmer loathed Rwanda solely because it was a Tory idea which might have proved successful for Rishi Sunak.

And Labour really DO believe their decisions are morally superior to the Tories’ . . . even when they’re the same.

Aladdin insane

WHO needs warning of the perils of panto?

Has anyone ever read that Aladdin contains cheeky innuendo and decided not to risk it overwhelming them or their loved-ones? Oh no they haven’t.

Will snowflakes ever wake up to the absurdity of issuing trigger warnings?

Oh no they won’t.
