Kaizer Chiefs target first trophy of the season

Before the current nine-year drought, Kaizer Chiefs were once known as the Cup kings in this country. With Nasreddine Nabi showing signs of a world-class coach, this season could see the end of the bad years.

This first opportunity will be the start of the Carling Knockout Cup later this month.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO FACE SUPERSPORT UNITED

Tuesday’s last-16 draw confirmed that Amakhosi will take on SuperSport United. Speaking to the media after the draw, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen said the club will be going for the trophy.

“It’s never too early. As I said, for a team like Chiefs, we should be competing for trophies season in, season out,” Petersen said via FARPost.

“Yes, we have a new technical team, new coach, new players. But, for me, starting with the Black Label Cup, we should push for that trophy. That could be our stepping stone and set the pace for the season,” the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper concluded.

GASTON SIRINO AND CO. INJURY UPDATES

Kaizer Chiefs made the exciting signing of Gaston Sirino in pre-season but the latest news are not so great.

According to the club’s medical team, the Amakhosi attacker suffered a minor injury in the last match against Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

“Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match, and he is improving nicely, and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks,” Kaizer Chiefs physiotherapist David Miller said.

Additionally, Brandon Petersen has recovered from his finger injury, while George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane and Edmilson Dove will start full training soon.

“Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work and we are looking at a November return for him, “ the Kaizer Chiefs physio added.

“He[Potsane] went for a scan which showed some ligament damage, so we expect him to be out for around three weeks.

“Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November. Brandon had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately,” Miller concluded.
