Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo featured as Venezuela held Lionel Messi‘s Argentina to a 1-1 draw on Thursday.
The 30-year-old South American came on as a second-half substitute to help his side secure a valuable draw against the world champions. Argentina scored through Nicolas Otamendi in the opening five minutes of the match.
Venezuela returned in the second half to force a draw through Salomom Rondon. The Kaizer Chiefs star, who has impressed since joining Amakhosi, watched his teammates contain Messi and his team before coming on in the 93rd minute. His side managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Besides Castillo, several Amakhosi stars also did well for their respective countries. Rushwin Dortley kept a clean sheet against Congo Brazzaville as Bafana won 5-0 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Friday.
