Kaizer Chiefs R6m star: We can win trophies this season

Kaizer Chiefs R6m star says , “We can win trophies this season!”

Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart firmly believes the team can clinch trophies this season, shaking off a nine-season trophy drought. After a disappointing 10th-place finish last season, the Amakhosi have shown signs of revival under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Currently sitting sixth on the Betway Premiership log with six points from three matches, Chiefs now eye glory in the league, Carling Knockout, and Nedbank Cups. The excitement around the 2024/2025 season grows as the team seeks to end its lengthy trophyless run.

Maart sees promise in team’s performance

Ahead of the CUFA Cup clash against Marumo Gallants, Maart highlighted the team’s improved performance and the technical staff’s strategic approach. “Anything is possible; it will take hard work,” Maart stated confidently, as quoted by iDiski Times. He emphasised the significant improvement in the team’s style of play.

“The way we play, to be honest, you can see there is a big improvement as players and coaches. They are aggressive on us, and we are aggressive too, so there’s a possibility to win something this season.”

Maart noted that this season brings a fresh mentality from the coaching staff, which fuels the players’ determination. “The technical team has a different mentality. They have to bring that mentality to us, and they are aggressive on us at training. There are no favourites for anyone,” he explained.

Rising to the challenge amid criticism

At 29 years old, Maart has faced scrutiny since joining Chiefs from Sekhukhune United, where he captained the side and earned national team recognition. Despite the criticism, he remains focused on his performance. “I don’t take note of or know about [the criticism] because I’m not a lot on social media. If you’re active there, you’d know what’s going on,” Maart shared.

This determination and focus on improvement reflect the overall ambition of the team as they prepare to take on Gallants in the CUFA Cup at the Free State Stadium this Sunday at 15:00.

With Maart at the helm and a rejuvenated squad, Kaizer Chiefs are poised to chase silverware this season. Fans remain hopeful as the Amakhosi aim to break their trophy drought and bring glory back to the club
