Jerry Jones sends clear message to Mike McCarthy on his job status after ‘very concerning’ Dallas Cowboys loss to Lions

JERRY JONES has sent a clear message to Mike McCarthy over his future as Dallas Cowboys head coach.

The NFC East flops have had a dreadful 2024-25 NFL season, with a 3-3 record.

They were hammered 47-9 at home to the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon.

That came after a 44-19 humiliation by the New Orleans Saints at the AT&T Stadium.

The Cowboys were also beaten 28-25 by the Baltimore Ravens, during an embarrassing home run.

And Jones had spoken out about the issues at the Cowboys – with dreams of a Super Bowl in tatters.

“We’ve got to assess and we’ve certainly got a bye week, but there’s nothing magic about a bye week,” Jones said.

“You can do some things differently within three days of some of the things that bit us out there today.

“This was very concerning and it was very humbling.

“It felt bad because of all of our great fans, especially the ones in the stadium and certainly the ones that are all about the Cowboys.”

Jones was sitting in the stands watching the Cowboys destruction on the field as he celebrated his 85th birthday.

It was the worst home defeat they have suffered since he bought the franchise in 1989.

He also opened on on McCarthy’s job security – with fans demanding he is fired.

“Oh, I haven’t even considered that, I’m not considering that so you’re clear, I’m not considering that,” added Jones.

“Do you think I’m an idiot? Do you? OK?

“Well, I’m not gonna hypothetical with you about what I consider coaching change in light of the timing we’re sitting here with.

“I’m not at all.”

The Cowboys – who were held to just 53 running yards against the Lions – suffered another miserable stat in the game.

It was the most point they had ever given up without scoring a touchdown.

“This was a shocker,” said Jones, who looked miserable after being caught on the live Fox TV broadcast in his private box.

“I thought we would do a lot of things better in that football game and think we can.

“We just didn’t do them out there today and don’t have a lot of answers.

“What are you going to do about it? We’re gonna go to work.”
