I’ve transformed my ex-council house using Dunelm & Ikea buys – although some trolls say it ‘looks like a Wetherspoons’

A HOMEOWNER has revealed that she transformed her former council house using budget-friendly buys.

Biz raved about making the home hers, but not everyone thought her choice of decor was an improvement.

Biz (@bizbrown97) has garnered almost 15,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares home decor inspiration.

She went viral on the social media app after revealing how she overhauled the tired-looking staircase in her home.

“Ex-council house renovation, you can make a house yours,” she said.

The video showed a murky green wall drawing attention to a trio of black and white portraits.

Meanwhile, the other walls were magnolia and the steps were covered with a brown runner.

Biz swapped the green wall for a shade of cream to brighten the space and added a stone-coloured panel below the portraits which she bought from Ikea.

She also chose a stripe design for one wall and installed a pendant light feature from Dunelm in the ceiling.

She didn’t reveal if the runner was replaced on the stairs but was delighted with the finished results.

Over 70,000 people liked the video as they praised her for upgrading her home.

“It makes the whole space look so much bigger,” one person said.

“Great idea, well done,” another person commented.

“Love the idea of the panelling, might be stealing that idea!!” a third chimed in.

“That is amazing! And is exactly the same shape and style as my stairs! I’m doing this,” another added.

However, other responses to the post argued the house looked better before Biz changed the decor.

“Looks like a Weatherspoons,” one person said.

“I preferred the before decor, it was so much better,” another wrote.

“Why’s everyone going for the McDonald’s look??” a third quipped.

How to do your council house up on the cheap

  • Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
  • Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
  • For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
  • A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
  • Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.

Biz revealed she was living at home with her parents before opting for a council house as a first-time buyer.

She decided to “break the rules” when deciding how to personalise it.

Fans of her decor defended her interior design choices in response to the critics.

“So many jealous people too upset to compliment this lovely house, it’s funny,” one person said.

“First pic looked great, second looks fab!!” another said.
