International Translation Day falls on 30 September every year. The day is also dedicated to the professionals in the translation and language services industry. The day celebrates the feast of St. Jerome, who is one of the great translators and scholars of the Bible. For this reason, he is often referred to as the patron saint of translators. He was actually the one who translated the Bible to Latin, which was, indeed, the most widely accepted religious language back then.
International Translation Day traces its origination back to 1991. It was an initiative by the International Federation of Translators, which dates back to 1953 to enhance international recognition and regard for translator and language services professionals around the world. The United Nations General Assembly officially recognized the day in 2017 when the General Assembly passed a resolution to recognize the day on 24 May 2017.
