A small, rustic-chic bar, tucked away on a cozy street in a popular Australian city, has been voted one of the best bars in the world.
Canteen okay! – described by guests as a ‘major gem’ in Sydney’s CBD – is ranked 96th in the top 100 bars around the world.
The microbar with roller door and no seating was included in the 51–100 longlist of the world’s 50 best bars of 2024, as voted by a panel of almost 700 experts, including renowned bartenders, drinks writers, cocktail specialists and critics.
This is the second time this unassuming drinking spot has been named one of the best bars in the world, after ranking 41st globally in 2022.
‘We are so excited to once again be represented on a global list with so many great bars,’ Cantina OK! location manager Jordan Grocock tells FEMAIL.
“The entire team is eager to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible to deliver world-class hospitality in a small corner garage.”
Nestled in a converted garage on Council Place behind Clarence Street, the standing-room-only establishment seats 20 people and features a cocktail menu of signature drinks, each served with hand-shaved ice.
Known for its famous margaritas, the shelves are stocked with a collection of rare agave spirits brought back from Mexico after the team’s recent trip.

Despite the small space, the bar is buzzing every week.
And it’s not surprising why bargoers have given this place a near-perfect 4.8 out of 5-star rating.
‘Everything about this place is just perfect. A great little hole-in-the-wall bar with a small but incredibly creative menu based on tequila and mezcal. “I loved every drink we ordered,” said one.

‘It’s a very cute and hidden little bar that you might miss if you walk past it, but it’s definitely worth a visit. The drinks were great. It’s very small and can be a bit crowded, but totally worth it,” one person shared.
Another added: ‘I can easily say this is the best bar I’ve been to.’
