If not Peter Todd, who could be Satoshi Nakamoto? All the people rumoured to have created Bitcoin

BITCOIN is an online currency shrouded in mystery and little is known about its shadowy creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

HBO’s documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery claimed that the Bitcoin creator is actually 39-year-old Canadian cryptocurrency developer Peter Todd.

Peter vehemently denied these claims and said that the suggestion was putting his life in danger.

So who are the other men suspected of being Satoshi Nakamoto?

Dorian Nakamoto

Dorian Nakamoto is a Japanese-American businessman, physicist and engineer.

He was born “Satoshi Nakamoto” something noted by Newsweek in 2014, when they suggested he could be the cryptocurrency creator.

The reporter who broke the story arrived at his home and asked him about the currency, to which he said: “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it.”

Dorian later claimed that he misunderstood the questions put to him and denied being the creator of the cryptocurrency.

Nick Szarbo proposed something similar to Bitcoin years before the cryptocurrency was created

Nick Szabo

In 1998, Nick proposed the decentralised currency Bit Gold.

This was a decade before Bitcoin came into existence, making Nick a prime candidate for being the mysterious cryptocurrency creator that is reportedly worth £36billion.

The idea that Nick could be the creator of Bitcoin was floated in the book Bitcoin: The Future of Money? which was written by Dominic Frisby, a British comedian.

A study conducted by Aston University found similarities between Nick’s own writing style and the writing found in the Bitcoin white paper.

However, Nick has kept a very low profile and rarely comments publicly on Bitcoin.

Craig Wright is open in his support for Bitcoin

Craig Wright

Unlike Nick, Craig has been very vocal about his support for Bitcoin.

A Wired article, written in 2015, claimed to have the “strongest evidence yet” about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.

Craig chatted to the publication and said that he had been involved with Bitcoin “for a long time” and had chosen to keep a low profile.

The story featured leaked emails and transcripts, which included Craig claiming to have “been running Bitcoin since 2019”.

Also, it cited the fact that a “cryptocurrency paper” had appeared on Craig’s blog just months before the Bitcoin white paper surfaced.

He later claimed to have written the white paper.

In early 2024, he appeared at London’s Royal Courts of Justice, where he said that he did not forge documents to prove that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.
