I tried shopping at Costco for the first time ever – it felt like Disneyland but I found a big problem

A SHOPPER has compared Costco to Disneyland after struggling not to get carried away in the store.

Bethany Simko said it felt like she was “infiltrating a club” as they took her photo for her Costco store card.

Bethany (@bethanyysimko) gushed about her first visit to Costco in a now-viral video shared on TikTok.

“Look at this place it’s like Disneyland, I don’t even know where to go,” she said.

She walked excitedly through the store while revealing that as a child her mom never shopped at Costco.

The shelves of folded clothes went untouched as she opted to start her shopping spree in the meat aisle.

Bethany joked that she wouldn’t have to buy beef for a year after picking up a huge pack for $17.

However, she complained that the store’s bag of onions was too big.

“The problem with this whole scenario is that I live alone,” she said.

She picked up a variety of vegetables while complaining that a man commented on her healthy groceries.

However, she was undeterred as she continued to throw items into her cart.

“This is just comical like the one I usually get is a quarter of the size of this,” she said, picking up tomatoes.

“I could feed an army with this.”

Bethany joked about “wiping a little extra” as she picked up a large supply of toilet tissue.

She enjoyed a sample before convincing herself that it was time to go to the till because she was getting “carried away.”

“I was in there for like an hour,” she said, rushing to her car.

She revealed the total at Costco was similar to how much she spends at her usual grocery store despite buying twice the amount of products.

Costco’s membership scanners

Costco has unveiled membership scanners at its store entrances.

In August 2024, the retailer released a statement about the scanners on its website.

“Over the coming months, membership scanning devices will be used at the entrance door of your local warehouse,” it wrote.

“Once deployed, prior to entering, all members must scan their physical or digital membership card by placing the barcode or QR Code against the scanner.

“Guests must also be accompanied by a valid member for entry.

“If you have any questions or concerns, there will always be an attendant at the door to assist you!

“If your membership is inactive, expired, or you would like to sign up for a new membership, the attendant will ask that you stop by the membership counter prior to entering the warehouse to shop.

“Additionally, if your membership card does not have a photo, please be prepared to show your valid photo ID.

“We encourage you to stop by the membership counter to have a photo taken to have on your card.”

Thousands of people liked the video and shared tips on how to make the foods stay fresh.

“I go to Costco and basically meal prep everything and freeze everything you’re not gonna use that week! That’s where Costco is the best,” one person said.

“I use a vacuum sealer for the ground beef so you can freeze it and not waste any! The 6lbs last my family 3-4 weeks,” another commented.

“Do not skip their clothes, they’re amazing,” a third added.
