A WOMAN discovered the issues of using Tesco’s Scan as you Shop when she forgot to scan a bottle of sparking water.
Louise explained that she and her boyfriend had gone to the supermarket to pick up a few bits when he suggested using the handheld scanner to save time.
While the process is meant to save time, it doesn’t if you’re selected for a random check[/caption]
The scanner requires customers to scan the barcode of the item, which then adds it to their virtual basket.
They then scan a barcode at the end of the shop, and can usually walk out without a problem.
However, sometimes customers get pulled aside for a random check, to ensure that they’ve scanned every item in the trolley.
So when Louise and her man accidentally missed one of the items in their shopping haul, they were quickly pulled to the side by a sales assistant.
“When you go to Tesco and your boyfriend insists on doing scan as you shop but you don’t want to and then he forgets to scan something, and now we are spending ages on the naughty step,” Louise wrote over the top of a video on TikTok.
The video showed Louise and her boyfriend sitting in said corner, looking glum as they waited for the assistant to return.
She then looked over at her boyfriend, and scowled, as he attempted to smile for the camera.
People were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: “Only happend to me a couple times.
“But the other month they took my trolley and re-scanned EVERYTHING.
“I’ve never felt so awkward!”
“Yup that was us this morning,” Louise replied.
“Literal naughty corner seats in front of everyone.”
“What happened did you get in trouble?” another asked.
“No it’s just more the inconvenience of my boyfriend wanting to do it to save time and then it ended up being loooonnnnnggggg!!” Louise laughed.
“Hide your non scanned items at the very bottom,” a third said.
“Thank me later!”

A Tesco employee has revealed a surprising secret about the self-scan trolleys.
According to the worker, random checks on customers using these trolleys are not entirely random.
The checks are actually triggered by a specific customer habit.
If you frequently pick up and put down items without scanning them, you’re more likely to be selected for a check.
This is due to the system detecting suspicious behaviour, which could indicate potential theft.
So, to avoid delays, it’s best to scan items immediately after placing them in your trolley.
With Louise hitting back: “You sound like a pro but this was genuine mistake of sparkling water of all things!”
“They scan half your shop, the lady had to scan 42 of my items…” someone else commented.
“Messed up all my bags – putting heavy stuff on my bread – I wasn’t happy… complete waste of time.”
“Completely feel ya!” Louise said.
“I think the item was 99p or something.
“Took her more time and cost for her to do it than that!”
“They did someone’s in Sainsbury’s yesterday and they literally did half their shop, then made them repack it,” another wrote.
“Asda do like 3 things, the staff all seem utterly over it!”
“Yeah serious waste of their time most of of the time I reckon,” Louise said.
