GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — It’s homecoming week for students at East Carolina University.
Before the football team hosts Temple Saturday, there’s plenty of events for students to show their spirit this week. There are a few new events on the list this year and some traditions that have been around for years to welcome back all the alumni.
Wednesday night is the song, skit and dance competitions where groups and organizations from ECU put together their talents for a show, just one of the many events happening this year for homecoming with the theme as “EC’Universe.”
New for homecoming this year is the campus department door decoration contest. Both students and faculty departments are able to compete to show off their Pirate pride with space- themed decorations on their offices or houses on campus.
They’ve also opened up an open teams competition to allow for students who maybe aren’t involved in a group or organization to still have an opportunity to take in all the homecoming festivities by participating with a team of their own.
“I kind of like being able to, you know, in the past being on homecoming committee, I’ve only been like focused more on certain events like parade or like, when we do the t-shirt swap,” ECU Homecoming Chair Hannah Billings said. “But, now as homecoming chair, I get to kind of like overlook everything, which is kind of a different experience, but a fun experience.”
In addition, they also had a canned food drive which brought in more than 26,000 pounds of food for those in need.
