‘He might as well sit in the stands with me’ – Ex-PSL coach warns Kaizer Chiefs striker

Former Marumo Gallants coach Dylan Kerr has sent a warning to inform Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro.

The 31-year-old has scored two league goals in three appearances for the Glamour Boys. In his first season for Amakhosi, the big forward only netted four goals in 20 appearances.

Under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, Ranga has shown his qualities even before the start of the season. During pre-season training, the ex-Marumo Gallants star scored four goals in one match which elevated him above Ashley Du Preez as the club’s main striker.

Kerr though feels is to early to judge the Kaizer Chiefs striker. He said the Limpopo-born player could be playing well due to the club making changes in the coaching department.

“When a new coach comes in, a team always wants to start well, everyone wants to impress,” Kerr told KickOff.

“But what I’ve seen from Ranga, he looks fitter, quicker, stronger, he looks leaner. He looks like he has had a good pre-season. He looks like he has had very good pre-season games.

“His consistency now [will be key]. He has scored two goals in the last three. He should have scored three goals against Marumo Gallants but didn’t score.

“He could have had a couple against AmaZulu, but he got one. He got one against [Mamelodi] Sundowns, he could have scored two,” added the former Marumo Gallants coach.

Kerr said it was important that Kaizer Chiefs continue to give support to their striker this season.

“Unless you give Ranga opportunities, he might as well sit in the stands with me. Any striker that is given ammunition to score goals will score more than they will miss.

“You’ve got to give him that ammunition, give him crosses into the box, make sure if he plays on the shoulder of the defender, you give him the ball in the right areas, so he can use his pace, his power.

“Because Ranga has got a good strike on him,” Kerr said.

Despite Kaizer Chiefs not buying a striker, the club have managed to score six goals in their three Betway Premiership matches so far.
