The festival of Diwali comes every year on Kartik Amavasya. Particularly this year, its date appears confusing. Let’s know the day when Diwali will be celebrated in this year and what lies behind it.
Diwali is not, by any stretch, a religious festival but is a time for prosperity, peace, and good well-being. It is the day when there is special importance of worshiping Maa Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Kuber Maharaj. This year, Diwali will be observed on 31 October 2024 (Thursday). Kartik Amavasya will begin at 3:53 pm on the very same day and will come to an end on 1 November 2024 (Friday) at 6:16 pm.
The havan to be organized on Diwali day holds a special significance. Due to the worship of Mata Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Kuber Maharaj, wealth and prosperity are received. Haridwar-based astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri says that for havan on October 31 the ideal time is evening.
The date of Diwali differs between the scholars. Some are talking about its celebration on 1st November, while others are suggesting its performance on October 31. Confusion regarding this is due to the time of Amavasya and Pradosh Kaal. Still, it is being advised to perform the puja on October 31 as Amavasya night will fall on the same day and making arrangements for Lakshmi Puja is more auspicious.
The second important tradition on Diwali is havan. Performing havan by Vedic chanting on Diwali day does not cause scarcity of wealth and grains in that house. This year special importance has been given to performing havan wearing red colored clothes, which is dear to Goddess Lakshmi.
So, Diwali 2024 will fall on 31 October, but this day can be given a more charming flavor by following the auspicious time and method of worship. Decorate the house with diyas and rangoli and celebrate this great festival with pomp and show!
