Dhanteras is referred to as Dhan Trayodashi and is in fact the first day of a chain of celebrations. Every year, it takes place on Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This year, Dhanteras will fall on October 29, 2024. As per the schedule, the Trayodashi Tithi will begin at 10:31 am and end at 1:15 pm on October 30.
Significance of the day Dhanteras significance is derived from Samudra Manthan. After much churning, Lord Dhanvantari emerged along with the Amrit Kalash. Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera are worshipped on this day because they are believed to be the gods of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that the purchases done on this day become thirteen times in the after time, and hence it is believed to be auspicious for shopping.
Dhanteras is a big shopping day. According to tradition, this is when gold, silver, utensils, brooms, and even vehicles should be bought. It’s the most auspicious time one can have. As per the auspicious time list this year, it will be between 6:31 pm to 8:13 pm. Besides, 10:31 am up to 6:32 am the following day is also an auspicious time for buying gold.
This day is the time for worshipping Lord Dhanvantri wherein it benefits with health, as well as provides one with energy. By worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Kuber, wealth increases. Therefore, things acquired on this day are believed to yield Akshaya fruit. So, it is given special importance.
