The first day of Diwali, Dhanteras is observed on the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. It is the date for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Kuber Devta along with Lord Dhanvantari. This date in 2024 is misconstrued as it falls on 29 October but some of the people say it falls on 30 October. But, according to Udaya date, Dhanteras festival this year will take place on Tuesday, October 29.
As per religious beliefs, the festival of Dhanteras is known to be the appearance of Lord Dhanvantari during the churning of the ocean. On this day Lord Dhanvantari appeared with Amrit Kalash, and hence this date is called Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi. The main objective of this day is to attain wealth, prosperity, and health.
Shopping gold, silver, utensils, broom, coriander etc. on the day of Dhanteras is very auspicious. According to it, if any vehicle or property deal is done on this day, it increases wealth 13 times.
On Dhanteras day, people are seen worshiping Mata Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari and Kuber Devta. They install their idols or pictures and light a ghee lamp. Offer food to the deities afterwards. Then chant mantras and do aarti for them.
