Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. On this day, mothers observe vrat and pray to God for the longevity and well-being of sons. This vrat comes four days after Karva Chauth, and on this day mothers break their vrat by offering Arghya after seeing stars. After it, she feeds her children with love. On Ahoi Ashtami, it is followed by Nirjala Upvaas and the Puja of Ahoi Mata.
This year Ahoi Ashtami will be observed on 24th of October. On that day, Kartik Krishna Ashtami Tithi will start at 01:18 am and end on 25th October at 01:58 am. According to Indian belief, the fast will be observed on 24th of October only, as per the belief of Udaya Tithi.
The time to watch the stars and make offerings of Arghya on Ahoi Ashtami is between 6:06 pm. The sunset on this day would be at 5:42 pm. Mothers worship the stars after making water offering, break their fast by making a jaggery pudding offering to the moon and distributing it to children as prasad.
Ahoi Ashtami fast is regarded as a very important one. If this fast is performed, children get happiness with longevity and protection from diseases. Ahoi Mata creates the destiny of children and protects children from evil eyes. This fast increases happiness and prosperity in a house, and even children progress in their career.
