Halloween weather forecast for the St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS — What will the weather be like in the St. Louis area on Halloween? Trick-or-treaters will probably need to bundle up. But, it looks like they will be dry. We do have some rain in the forecast late Wednesday night into the early morning of Halloween.

Near record highs are forecast for today. The record is 86 set in 2016. Gusty winds will increase today with top gusts of 30-40 mph at times. The warm, dry winds will lead to elevated wildfire concerns today.

Wednesday will bring more very warm temperatures and gusty winds before a strong cold front arrives late Wednesday night. The front will bring a solid band of rain and thunderstorms after midnight Wednesday night. The storms will steadily march from west to east across the region, with the potential for 40–60 mph wind gusts, small hail and briefly heavy rain.

The greatest risk for severe/damaging storms will stay over western and central Missouri where there is a level 2 (out of 5) risk for severe storms. However, I cannot rule out some warnings into our area after midnight for near severe winds where there is a level 1 (out of 5) risk for strong to severe storms. The most likely times for storms in our DMA will be between 12am and 6am (pre-dawn Thursday).

Weather looks good at this time for Halloween trick-or-treaters and for Friday. Temperatures both days will be seasonably cool, in the 60s. Rain chances will ramp up again late in the weekend.
