There are more than enough public holidays in the upcoming 2025 calendar to ensure time off to rest.
17 DAYS OFF WITH SEVEN DAYS LEAVE
According to Jacaranda, South Africans can turn some of their 2025 public holidays into more than 15 weeks of leave.
A post on Reddit reveals that how you can get 17 days of leave if you work well with the already-established leave days.
You will get 17 days off while using just seven days of leave if you take leave on 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, and 30 April, as well as 2 May in 2025.
The public holidays include Good Friday on 18 April, Family Day on 21 April and Freedom Day on 27 April.
Freedom Day will only be observed on Monday 28 April, while Worker’s Day falls on 1 May 2025.
This means that the total time off will be taken from Friday, 18 April to Sunday, 4 May.
South Africa has 12 public holidays as determined by the Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994).
2025: ‘THREE SPECIAL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS’
BusinessTech reports that the South African public-school calendar shows that there will be an extra three holidays in 2025 thanks to “special school holidays”.
According to the calendar, the 2025 school year will begin on Wednesday, 15 January and end on Friday, 12 December.
2025 is expected to have three special school holidays namely:
- Friday, 2 May 2025
- Tuesday, 29 April;
- Wednesday, 30 April
The upcoming year is expected to have 27 standard school holidays, which is an increase from the 25 holidays in 2024.
