Various film scenes are forever etched into the minds of worldwide horror film enthusiasts.
One common feature which has both thrilled and terrified fans over the years have been the various chase sequences.
These include the zombie pursuit scene at the start of 28 Weeks Later.
Another example included Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) in The Shining as he hunted down his son in the snow maze climax.
Now, a new study has analysed horror chases to review which villains are the hardest to run away from.
The research was conducted by experts at SportsShoes.com and it considered the physical aspects of each character.
Factors that were taken into account included each villain’s height, stride length and how many steps they were seen to have taken during the chase.
This has given researchers an accurate depiction of the speed of each iconic movie killer.
The three villains who are revealed to be the fastest and hardest are Leatherface, Ghostface and Patrick Bateman.
Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) tops the list as he ran at over 7 miles an hour.
He was seen wielding a chainsaw in two chase scenes which featured him running after Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns).
At two miles an hour less in second place was Ghostface in the 1996 hit, Scream when he chased Sidney Prescott through the house of Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard).
Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman from American Psycho (2000) comes in third place, just before Freddy Krueger’s final chase on A Nightmare on Elm Street.
2017 saw Bill Skarsgård take on the role of the iconic dancing clown, Pennywise in It, who ran less than 0.04 miles an hour slower than Robert Carlyle in 28 Weeks Later.
