Free event to throw away large household items, yard debris in Pueblo

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The City of Pueblo is sponsoring another free opportunity for people to get rid of large household items and yard debris during its “Team Up to Clean Up” event happening from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

There will be two locations where those living in Pueblo can dispose of their household trash and large items. The locations are listed below:

  • Colorado State University Pueblo, located at 2001 Rawlings Boulevard
    • Those who attend are encouraged to enter the CSU Pueblo location using Troy Avenue and Rawlings Blvd. near the ThunderBowl parking lot.
  • Colorado State Fairgrounds, located at 1001 Beulah Avenue  
    • Entry to the Colorado State Fairgrounds will take place through Gate 3 on Mesa Avenue and Gate 9 on Beulah Ave.

For the Colorado State Fairgrounds and CSU Pueblo locations, each household is limited to:

  • One pickup-sized truckload only.
  • People are encouraged to bring the following: furniture, mattresses, carpet, used tires, and other large items.
  • A limit of five tires per household will be accepted and the tires must be removed from the rims.
  • No commercial vehicles, trailer trucks, or rented moving vehicles will be permitted.
  • Only one truckload per household is allowed.
  • All individuals will be asked to provide proof of residency within Pueblo city limits.

There will also be a third location available for tree limbs, leaves, and other yard debris. The new green waste site is listed below, along with parameters for those who use it:

  • Pueblo RecycleWorks, located at 1595 Stockyard Road
    • Yard waste that is easily packed in trash bags or boxes is preferred.
    • No household trash will be collected at this site.

“Vehicles with building materials including concrete, soil, or rocks or any industrial or commercial waste will be turned away,” according to the City. “Hazardous materials, appliances, televisions, computers, and other electronics may not be disposed of during this event.”

In addition to this one-day event, the City said it is partnering with Waste Connections for other trash disposal opportunities. Information about upcoming events can be found below:

  • Company: Waste Connections
  • Location: South Side Landfill, located at 5715 CO Highway 78
  • Dates: Monday, Oct. 28 through Tuesday, Nov. 12
  • Deal: Waste Connections will offer half-price dump fees at the above location and dates
  • Restrictions: All truckloads must be covered, and the event is open to City of Pueblo residents only
