Former EFF member Fana Mokoena returns to acting

Legendary actor Fana Mokoena who recently left the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has taken to social media to announce his return to acting.

FANA MOKOENA RETURNS TO SCREEN?

Sunday World reports that the former EFF member and actor Fana Mokoena shared a photo of actors Warren Masemola and Desmond Dube and said he’s honoured to be working with the two thespians again.

“Two of the most simmered artists in this proud land. Good brothers come together again it is always a blast,” wrote Mokoena.

This comes after the 53-year-old left the EFF on 17 October.

TimesLIVE reported that Mokoena resigned four months after he was sworn-in as an MP in the seventh parliament.

“We can confirm that the Speaker is in receipt of a letter of resignation from Mr Mokoena,” said parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo.

The internationally acclaimed actor also left parliament in October 2020.

He first became an EFF MP in May 2014, representing the party in the National Council of Provinces before switching to the National Assembly in August 2016 until October 2020 when he resigned. 

FORMER EFF MEMBER: ACTING CAREER

The former EFF member Fana Mokoena is best known for his role as Dr Mandla Sithole in SABC1’s Generations.

TVSA reports that Mokoena has also appeared in TV shows such as Yizo Yizo season one as Thulas, The Lab seasons one to three as Simon Bhengu, Blood Psalms season one as Old Slave etc.

He played a small role in the Dangerous Ground in 1997. Mokoena also scored a supporting role as General Bizimingu in the 2004 film titled Hotel Rwanda.

Then in 2006 he played Jaws Bengu in the local series The LAB, a role which he played until 2009.

In 2008, he appeared in a small role in the series Silent Witness. Then he played the role of Capt James Sikobi in the local drama A Small Town Called Descent in 2010.

Mokoena joined e.tv’s soapie Scandal! in 2021 to play the character of Vukile Kubeka.
