VICKSBURG, MS – Just after 5:30 p.m. yesterday a report of a structure fire at 506 Speed Street was reported. According to witnesses at the scene, a woman was inside the home and was pulled out before the fire got overwhelming.
Fire Engine 6 and 7 arrived on scene to put out the blaze alongside Vicksburg First Responders to assist.
“At around 5:37 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 506 Speed Street. Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted by a thick plume of smoke billowing from every corner of the house, casting an ominous shadow over the scene. Determined to combat the blaze, the crews quickly launched an interior attack, navigating through the haze to locate the fire’s origin,” said Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps.
According to Chief Stamps, the back floor of the house had been severely compromised, burning through in places and creating a perilous hazard.
“Despite their best efforts, some damage extended to the neighboring structure, but luckily, no injuries were reported for either property. The teamwork and dedication of the fire crews were instrumental in preventing even more significant damage and safeguarding the community,” said Stamps.
The initial cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation.
