A RARE detail on your dime could push its value up to $8,225.
The 1983 dime typically holds a value of just 10 cents, however, an error on the coin made its price tag skyrocket.
This particular coin is called the Roosevelt dime and has no mint mark.
A mint mark is a letter on a coin indicating where it was minted.
The coin should have the “S” mint mark for San Francisco but it was accidentally left off the Proof dies prepared at the Philadelphia Mint.
This error caused the coin to sell on the popular site Heritage Auctions for $8,225.
These dimes are considered extremely rare as another sold online for $20,489.
HISTORY OF ROOSEVELT DIMES
The Roosevelt dime was made to honor the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt, also known as FDR.
FDR took office in 1933 and served four presidential terms – the only president to have ever done so.
In 1945, he passed away due to health issues and the country was struck with grief.
The ten-cent piece was a way of honoring his presidency as the dimes were made in 1965 through 1983.
Dimes from 1965 through 1967 display no mintmark.
However, from 1968 and onwards, the dimes typically have mint marks from either Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; Philadelphia, PA; or West Point, NY.
COINING IT

An MS-70 is near-impossible to find among older coins.
