ECU welcomes both alumni and students for Homecoming Parade

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — There is truly no place like home and ECU’s Homecoming Parade on Saturday showed exactly that.

“I’m here to watch my daughter cheer in the actual ECU parade. So that’s exciting and, you know, just go to the game afterwards and enjoy the festivities with all the alumni and just it’s home. ECU’S home.” said an ECU alumni.

For some people this is their first year participating in the parade and creating a float.

“Our first time we’re very excited. It was our first time doing homecoming this year.” said Labdhi Shah, a member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity at ECU. “Being able to like, take a participation in everything we won all all of the different we had a banner competition. We had a canned food drive where we donated, I think like $300 worth of stuff.”

And for some others…

“It’s my fourth year. This. I’m a senior. It’s my fourth year doing it.” said members of ECU ZTA and Pike.

“It’s so much fun just getting to see everybody, every single year. The hard work we put in, like, it’s just been so much fun, so I’m going to miss it. But this is my fourth year, so I’m so excited.”

The theme this year was ECU-niverse, which inspired the student’s floats.

“We were going for a pastel like Alien Wonderland kind of vibe, kind of. We’re hoping for a little bit more unique take on the universe. So we did a little more pastel in our banner.”  said Autumn Gollick, a member of Club Yoga at ECU.

“Feels pretty great. Yeah. To represent my pirate spirit and get out there. You know.” said members of ECU Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse.

After the parade it was football time.

“We go straight to the field. After this, we warm up and then we get the game started. Or, I’ll say we get the crowd hyped.” said members of the ECU Cheerleading Team.

A day to bring everyone back together…

“And it’s always a good time. Yeah. So we go out and tailgate with the cheerleading family and we always have a great time. Yeah, the homecoming and the homecoming today is will be with the cheerleaders and we will support them with the food and everything we do, all the hang out. We’ll just hang out. Cheerleading families and the alumni cheerleaders are all there. So it’s a really big event for the spirit team.” said Rick and Lisa Sigler, ECU parents.

It’s a tradition that is not only fun for the alumni to come back to, but also for the students to get involved with as well.
