Ashtami: On 11th October 2024, this day will be observed as Maha Ashtami. The special puja and rituals are performed on this day, of which Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja are notable.
Navami: This day will be observed on 12th October 2024. On this day, worship is done in the form of victory by Goddess Durga and the mass feast is also done.
Maha Ashtami is considered to be the most important and powerful day of Durga Puja. It is reckoned to be the day of worship of the Mahishasuramardini form of Goddess Durga, the day when the Goddess defeated Mahishasura. On this day, devotees especially worship Shakti and wish to get rid of their troubles.
Durga Maha Navami is celebrated as the last day of Durga Puja. It is celebrated as a sign of victory of Goddess Durga and also a farewell. Along with worship and havan on this day, there is also a tradition of Kanya Pujan in which little children are blessed by giving them food and gifts.
This time, Ashtami and Durga Maha Navami will coincidentally fall on the same day, 11 October 2024. Kanya Pujan will also be done on the same day whose shraddh ka samay will be till 10:41 am. Fasting, worship, and charity are special on this sacred day.
Havan is done on the day of Navami itself, which is also called Chandi Homa. Better health and prosperity is prayed from Goddess Durga on this day. It is said that a great boon for the people who undertake Kanya Pujan on this day is said to be very beneficial. This day comes in the form of worship in Siddhidatri, from whom all the darkness in life is eliminated.
