This year in 2024, both Ashtami and Navami of Sharadiya Navratri are coinciding on the same day which is October 11. A little confusion can be there because Ashtami will begin on October 10 and will be over on October 11 at around 12:06 AM, and then Tithi of Navami starts immediately but according to Udayatithi fasts of Ashtami and Navami will be done on October 11 only.
On this day Mahagauri and Siddhidatri are especially worshiped who are Goddesses of the eighth and ninth day of Navratri respectively. Traditions of Kanya Pujan and Khoicha Bhaari are also performed on this day, which keeps happiness, peace, and prosperity in the house.
Reason for Maha Ashtami and Navami together: This time, both Maha Ashtami and Navami are falling on the same day, because of which there is a little confusion among the devotees. According to Pandit Manotpal Jha, on this very day, especially women, will follow the tradition of filling the Khoicha of Maa Durga. Women use Arwa rice, betel nut, betel leaf, makeup items, turmeric knot, durva, sweets etc. to fill the khoicha.
Significance of Navratri: Pooja of Maa Durga during Navratri gives happiness, prosperity and well-being in life. This festival is the symbol of the victory of good over evil and is also an important step towards removing evil.
After today’s Navami Tithi, Dashami Tithi will be celebrated as Vijayadashami on 12th October.
