Everton legend Duncan Ferguson has been sacked as Inverness manager due to the side’s dire financial situation, which has left them at the foot of the Scottish third tier and in a fight for their survival.
The club went into administration earlier this week, resulting in a penalty of 15 penalty points. Ferguson, who had worked for free to improve their situation, revealed that he and two coaches had left the club on Wednesday.
Players and other staff members will reportedly hear about their futures on Thursday.
‘Myself and my staff now that we have left the club.’ Ferguson told BBC Scotland. ‘Of course we expected this in recent weeks. These are the administration costs, right? So myself and my two coaches left at this point.
‘I have done my utmost for the club and for my players. I have always tried to support my players behind the scenes and they all know that and that is the most important thing for me: that I have supported my players.’

Caledonian Thistle are facing a fight for their survival after coming under administration earlier this week
The former Scotland international took charge of Caledonian Thistle last September following the dismissal of Billy Dodds, with the club bottom of the Championship.
The outfit were later relegated to League One after a play-off defeat to Hamilton Academical. The challenging role was Ferguson’s first as manager since leaving Forest Green after just 18 games in January 2023.
Ferguson reportedly personally paid for the Inverness players’ gas and fuel money, as well as other daily expenses.
Administrators are trying to find new owners to save the club. If that fails, assets can be sold and the money raised distributed to creditors.
“It’s cruel, isn’t it? It’s really difficult to get a 15 point deduction.’ Ferguson added. ‘It all depends on how deep they cut the player selection. If they manage to stay in the division, I think it’s possible.

‘I think I have brought a lot of good players to the club, they will be a great asset to the club in the future. So yes, I think the club can stay in the division if they can keep hold of their players. If not, it will be a difficult task.’
Inverness are currently bottom of the third tier with -3 points. Regardless of which division they play in next season, they will start with -5 points.
