Drug Take Back Day happening Oct. 26

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) —The Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Rocky Mountain Field Division (RMFD) will host its National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, Oct. 26 at dozens of locations across Colorado.

“Twice a year across our Division, DEA and partner agencies collect tons of unwanted, unneeded, or expired medications. We encourage people to get these items out of their homes, as it can be a step in preventing potential medication misuse,” said DEA RMFD Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Pullen. “This event assists the public in disposing these prescription drugs in a safe and reliable manner.”

While “Every Day is Take Back Day” thanks to year-round participating collection sites, the national designation reminds people to properly dispose of medications instead of throwing or flushing them away. The national Take Back event takes place twice a year, the final Saturdays in April and October.

If you have unwanted or expired prescription medications and would like to dispose of them in a responsible way, there are plenty of take back locations, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Teller County, Cañon City, and more. Click here to find a location near you.

National Drug Take Back Day will take place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The RMFD collected more than 10,000 pounds of unneeded prescription medications during the April Take Back Day.
