‘Don’t do business with Mike Tomlin’, warns Fox NFL Sunday star over ‘disruptive’ player trade fears

A FOX NFL Sunday star shared his take on Pittsburgh Steelers veteran head coach Mike Tomlin and the management of his players.

NFL reporter Jay Glazer recently spoke about the longest-tenured active head coach Tomlin and the way he finds a way to come out on top when it comes to trades.

The 52-year-old Tomlin has been known to keep egos in check in the locker room.

Tomlin and the Steelers have also made decisions to move on from players who have created drama, either behind closed doors or in public.

Antonio Brown, LeVeon Bell, Martavis Bryant, and Chase Claypool are just among the talented players that the Steelers have traded, and each of them underwhelmed in their respective next destination.

Glazer appeared on the NFL on Fox podcast on Tuesday and said he has continued to preach that teams do themselves a disservice when it comes to dealing with Tomlin and the Steelers when it comes to trades.

“It is a superpower of his to keep everybody together on that same page. And you don’t hear things about people and Steelers until they leave. I tell people all the time, Don’t do business with Mike Tomlin,’” Glazer said, per Fox’s YouTube account.

“Don’t because you’re gonna think you’re getting this choir boy, and they then come over here and you’re like ,’Oh he ain’t a choir boy. Man this guy’s disruptive.’

“Right? It’s hilarious.”

A perfect example of the Steelers coming out on top in a trade was dealing Brown to the then-Oakland Raiders in 2019.

Brown made seven Pro Bowls during his tenure in Pittsburgh, but he skipped practices at the end of the 2018 season and demanded a trade.

The Steelers dealt Brown to the Raiders for 2019 third-and-fifth round picks.

One of the players became wideout Diontae Johnson, who made a second-team All-Pro team in his rookie year and a Pro Bowl in 2021.

As for Brown, he never played a down with the Raiders as he was a distraction during training camp and demanded his release.

Brown finished his career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl.

Another example is the Claypool trade which netted a 2023 second-round pick from the Chicago Bears.

Pittsburgh used the selection to draft cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who made the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2023.

Claypool had a diminished role with the Bears, demanded a trade, and was traded to the Miami Dolphins.

Things continue to look up for the Steelers this season after a 10-7 record last year.

Pittsburgh is currently 5-2 and saw Russell Wilson lead the offense to a season-high 37 points in his Week 7 debut.

The Steelers had started Justin Fields in the previous six weeks.

He lost the starting role after his 10-touchdown to-one-interception stat line helped guide the organization to a 4-2 record.

Still, the 2021 first-round pick wasn’t supposed to be the team’s starting signal-caller this season as Wilson won the job during training camp but a preseason injury forced him out for more than a month.

Pittsburgh will face the 2-5 New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
