Dermatology residents complete anti-racism curriculum

Over Sept. 26-27, the Dermatology residency program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center participated in the Curriculum for Advancing Racial Equity (CARE), a new program developed and presented by the American Academy of Dermatology.

Otherwise offered by the academy as a series of virtual workshops, this was the first time CARE was presented as an in-person intensive program.

With participation of all Dermatology residents and select departmental leaders, the interactive sessions covered topics such as structural racism, implicit bias, strategies to minimize bias when interacting with patients and physicians of color, identity and privilege, racial microaggressions, and institutional racism in health care.
