Court order pauses early voting in St. Charles County

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – Early voting in St. Charles County is on hold after a judge approved a temporary restraining order on Wednesday.

Travis Allen Heins, of St. Peters, filed an injunction leading to the TRO, according to court documents. He is listed online as a member of the St. Charles County Republican Party Central Committee.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in St. Charles County circuit court.

On Wednesday, St. Charles County election authorities informed FOX 2 of various changes in response to historic early voting turnout. County election officials said there was more parking added at the main absentee location in Wentzville and expanded capacity at the single satellite voting location.

More than 25,000 people have voted since no-excuse absentee voting began Oct. 22, according to a media update Wednesday afternoon from the St. Charles County Election Authority.

According to court documents filed Wednesday, Heins contends that state law permits election watchers and challengers to be present wherever in-person absentee ballots are being prepared and counted. He argues this should extend to early voting polling place and that ballots should be counted as they are fed into the voting machines.
