I have a huge hack to boost your Vinted listings without spending any extra time on them – it’s a great cheat

A RESELLING pro has revealed the clever hack she uses on Vinted to write long descriptions in seconds.

Emily has been making her name for herself on social media thanks to her skills at finding gems in charity shops, car boots and jumble sales, which she then sells on at a profit.

Emily has explained how she uses an app to help generate listing descriptions for Vinted

It then generates a huge description for her, complete with bullet points and hashtags

But instead of spending ages writing descriptions for the bits she’s selling on sites like Vinted, she’s found a clever way to do it in a fraction of the time.

She explained in a video on her TikTok page, as she said: “I use AI, ChatGPT, to write my item descriptions.

“There is a paid version and a free version but on the free version you can actually do two photos a day so you can still use this feature.”

She actually uses the paid version of the app, and adds in four picture of the item – showing the front, the back, any text and any labels.

Then, after checking she’s included all of the main information, she writes: “Write item descriptions and title and bullet points of important information using -. and hashtags.”

Emily then hits the button, and generates a load of text describing the item in much more detail.

As well as giving her a “bit of text to sell the product”, it then lists key features, followed by the hashtags.

“Now all these words here are keywords which means it’s going to get your item in front of more buyers,” Emily said of the hashtags.

Once that’s done, she copies and pastes the description into Vinted, making sure to remove any unnecessary punctuation, and hits list.

Emily added that another thing she’s trying to do at the moment is include more measurements of items, as she finds that helps the selling process.

She concluded her video by showing the app she uses for the hack.

In the caption for the video, Emily wrote: “This is a gamechanger!! I cheat using ChatGPT to write my item descriptions.

“I’m terrible at writing, it’s not my strong point, and this has made it so, so much easier for me!”

She added in response to a comment: “It saves me so so so much time – it’s totally worth it for me, as I wouldn’t be able to get loads listed without it!”

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted...

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.
  • More information here: vinted.co.uk/no-changes-to-taxes

“I think it’s really good,” another agreed.

“Sometimes I’m not sure how to describe things and if I’ve described something accurately so this is super helpful.”

“I use the built in AI that EBay provides,” a third commented.

“Then I copy/paste to Depop & Vinted.

“I couldn’t handle listing freestyle!”

I was miserable in my job so sold everything & moved into a van full-time -my hubby’s 6ft 1 so it’s tight but we love it

A WOMAN has revealed that she sold all of her possessions and moved into a van full time, after becoming sick of her job.

Madison decided that that 9-5 was not for her, and along with her husband Tyler, purchased a 180 square foot campervan.

They decided to ditch their house for a campervan, when Madison became miserable at her job[/caption]

With Tyler being 6 foot 1, the campervan is a tight squeeze for the pair, but they love having the freedom to be able to travel around as they please.

During the pandemic, Madison was working a very corporate job, which she said made her “miserable”.

“I went up to Tyler and I just said, we should sell everything and move into an RV”, she told the Tiny Home Tours YouTube channel.

“I was half joking, but he proposed to me all of the reasons why we should do it, and how much money we would save.”

After realising how much cheaper their life would be if they lived in a van, Madison said she was “sold”, and the couple haven’t looked back since.

The duo have completely renovated the campervan, to give it a “modern cottage look” and say that it has everything that you would need in a normal sized house.

They have a huge full sized sink and a full sized oven, so that they can cook their favourite meals, and even a microwave.

It also has a spacious bathroom with a toilet and a shower in it, and a bedroom with a queen sized bed.

The couple mostly park their RV up on the road at night, so they don’t have to spend any money on campsites.

However, they do sometimes pay to stay at campgrounds, so that they can use the facilities.

Madison and Tyler both now work remote jobs, so they can earn cash whilst travelling around the US.

They make their money from posting content about their life in the RV on social media, and from brand deals.

In order to save water, the couple say that they only shower twice a week, as their water tank only holds 30 gallons at a time.

Is it legal to live in a van?

IF you are looking to live in a van to save money or travel, you'll be pleased to know that there are no UK laws stopping you.

However, you must ensure your vehicle has passed its MOT and is fully road legal.

There could also be restrictions on where you can park up to sleep in your van.

For example, local authorities place restrictions on certain streets or lay-bys, and you could be fined if you spend the night there.

It could also be unsafe to stop in certain locations, particularly at night-time.

Check the The Highway Code guide for guidance.

“We like to shower twice a week, so if we do shower, it’s very quick”, said Tyler.

To power their van, they have attached a solar panel to the roof, and they also have a generator, allowing them to be completely off-grid, and park up wherever they please.

“The pros of living this lifestyle are obviously that you get to go wherever you want and do whatever you want, as long as you have the money”, Tyler said.

“We get to experience ultimate freedom being on the road, we get to experience so many places that it would have taken us 20 years to if we only had vacation time to do it in.”

However, Tyler admitted that being away from their family whilst they’re travelling is hard.

“The sacrifices are overall worth it for the freedom we have”, he said.

Thousands of Vinted users issued warning ahead of October tax deadline – what you can do now

THOUSANDS of Vinted users who have made sales this year are being reminded of an upcoming October tax deadline.

Since January 1, users on digital platforms including Vinted have had to submit a form if they make a profit through the website.

Firms now have to pass on customer data to HMRC if they sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.

This is known as a HMRC seller report form.

This is because anyone selling items online might have to pay tax if they earn £1,000 or more.

If the money a member makes on online marketplaces over a year is less than the amount they paid for the items they are selling, then there is no tax to pay.

But those trading for profit might need to pay tax.

The new rules introduced at the beginning of January mean marketplaces must now pass on seller’s earnings directly to HMRC.

It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.

It is worth noting that this isn’t a new tax.

Those who earn over £1,000 have always had to declare income and fill in a self-assessment tax return, but it gives the taxman greater visibility over what you earn.

The reminder about the form comes as new sellers have just one week to go to see if they need to register for a Self Assessment tax return.

The tax return is used by the HMRC to collect income tax.

The deadline for new sellers to check if they need to submit a Self Assessment is October 5.

But the actual deadline to submit the form is January 31 if your file online or October 31 if you file via post.

Do I have to pay tax on my second-hand sales?

Around 18million people across the UK use Vinted to buy and sell clothes and other items online.

However, if you start earning more than a certain amount you have to pay tax.

A Vinted spokesperson told The Sun: “If you sell an item for less than you bought it for, then there’s no tax to pay because you’ve made no profit from selling it.”

For example, if you bought a shirt for £30 and sold it for £29 – you’ve made no profit, so there is no tax to pay.

Even if you do make a profit, you still won’t have to pay any tax on it unless you sell that item for £6,000 or more.

How does Vinted work?

VINTED is an app where you can buy and sell second-hand clothes and accessories.

Sellers can list items on the app for free and there are no fees for selling items either.

Instead, buyers pay a buyer protection fee on every transaction, worth between 3% and 8% of the sale price before postage, plus 30p to 80p depending on the item’s value.

This fee contributes towards protecting buyers if they have a problem with their order.

Any money you earn as a seller goes into your Vinted Wallet, which you can then withdraw out to your bank account as cash.

Even then, members can use a Capital Gains tax-free allowance, which is £3,000 for all yearly profits.

Vinted added: “Generally, only business sellers trading for profit might need to pay tax and provide proof of their transactions.

“This includes sellers who buy items to resell at a higher price than they were purchased for.”

Submitting an HMRC seller form

If you have made 30 sales or £1,700 this year you will be contacted by Vinted and asked to submit the seller report form on the app.

This year, the company said it will only approach new sellers who registered in 2024.

If you do not hear from Vinted then you don’t need to do anything.

However, members who meet the criteria will be asked to add their National Insurance Number to a pre-filled form and check the details are correct before submitting it.

You don’t need to calculate or count anything yourself.

Some members may be asked to submit a Self-Assessment tax return if they earn over £6,000 in profit.

The process is separate to the HMRC reporting requirement, and members are responsible for handling this themselves.

You can check your tax status by visiting the taxpayer centre on the Vinted app or website.

How do you know if you have to submit a tax return?

Self-assessment is a system HMRC uses to collect income tax.

Tax is usually deducted automatically from wages, pensions and savings, but people and businesses with other incomes must report it in a tax return.

This applies to the following:

  • Your income from self-employment was more than £1,000
  • Earned more than £2,500 from renting out property
  • You or your partner received high-income child benefits and either of you had an annual income of more than £50,000
  • Received more than £2,500 in other untaxed income, for example from tips or commission
  • Are limited company directors
  • Are shareholders
  • Are employees claiming expenses over £2,500
  • Have an annual income over £100,000

Before you submit your tax return, you’ll need to have a unique taxpayer reference code (UTR) and activation code from the HMRC.

You get a UTR when you register for a Self Assessment return or set up a limited company.

It’s a 10-digit number and it might just be called a tax reference.

You’ll get your UTR by post 15 days after you register but this may take longer if you live overseas.

You can file a Self-Assessment tax return online via the GOV.UK website or by post.

If you file by post the deadline is October 31 2024.

However, if you file online you have up to January 31, 2025.

Who owns Harrods now? The history behind Britain’s most iconic department store

HARRODS world famous department store has had five owners since the Knightsbridge store opened in 1849.

Mohammed Al-Fayed, who was one of Harrods most famous owners, is the subject of several posthumous rape accusations.

The dazzling department store has a long history that started back in the early 1840’s when a grocery seller named Charles Harrod, first rented the store.

Mohammed Al-Fayed, who took over the luxury department store in 1985, is currently facing posthumous accusations of rape by former staff.

In May 2010, Mohamed Al-Fayed sold Harrods to the Qatari royal family‘s, Qatar Holdings group for around £1.5bn.

Mohamed Al-Fayed, who died on August 30, 2023 at the age of 94, retired in 2010, after 25 years of being chairman of Harrods.

Harrods is owned by Harrods Ltd, a company currently owned by the state of Qatar via its sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority.

Prior to the sale Al-Fayed had received much interest from other investors but refuted claims that he would take up their advances.

Controversially at the time, Al-Fayed offered potential buyers, including Qatar, “two fingers” at their offers, and stated, “It is not for sale”.

Months later he went back on his word, selling Harrods to Qatar due to difficulties Al-Fayed encountered getting his dividend approved by the trustees of the Harrods pension fund.

In his famous vehement refusal, before changing his mind, he said: “People approach us from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar.

“Fair enough, but I put two fingers up to them all.

“It is not for sale.

“This is not Marks & Spencer or Sainsbury.

“It is a special place that gives people pleasure. There is only one Mecca.”

In 1984, Al-Fayed and his brother Ali, purchased a 30 percent stake for £138 million in the House of Fraser – a group that previously included Harrods.

The Fayed brothers, bought the remaining 70% for £615 million in 1985, taking full ownership of the Knightsbridge department store.

Mohammed Al-Fayed also owned Hotel Ritz Paris and Fulham FC.

The Egyptian-born businessman had a son named Dodi who was romantically involved with Princess Diana, until they both died in a fatal car crash in Paris in 1997.

House of Fraser was established in 1849, trading under the name of the founders Arthur & Fraser, as a small drapery store in Glasgow, Scotland.

When the co-founder Hugh Fraser died in 1873, his three eldest sons, James, John and Hugh, acquired stakes in the business and changed the name to Fraser & Sons.

The business continued to grow and in 1879, the Oxford Street flagship store in London was opened.

By 1948 the company, now named House of Fraser, had entered the listings of the London Stock Exchange.

However, Harrods wasn’t acquired by the House of Fraser until 1959.

Harrods was part of the House of Fraser group until 1995, when Harrods moved into the private ownership of the Al Fayed’s.

Charles Henry Harrod is the founder of the world renowned Harrods department store.

Interestingly, when the doors first opened back during the 1840’s, the shop sold groceries and only had a turnover of about £20 per week.

Born April 6, 1799 – March 31, 1885, Harrod originally worked as a miller in Clacton.

He relocated to London to rent a small shop on Brompton Road, Knightsbridge that would later go on to be the world’s most famous department store.

Harrod concentrated on encouraging wealthy people to visit his store and provided a personalised service for important customers – a unique selling point of the business has continued to the present day.
