We rent luxury cabins on Airbnb but ‘sour grapes’ neighbours are trying to rip them down – one even helped us build them

A COUPLE who rent out luxury cabins on Airbnb have been ordered to tear down two of their properties following a bitter feud with neighbours.

Former cop Rhys Gronow, 47, and emergency call operator wife Roisin, 53, pooled their savings to buy a quiet cottage in the Welsh countryside after Rhys was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Roisin fumed that two holiday cabins couldn’t be blamed for causing an increase in traffic[/caption]

The couple forked out an extra £20,000 to nab two eco-friendly glamping homes and a bathroom area in Rhydlewis to let out to visitors.

But a cluster of seething neighbours have slammed the couple after allegedly hearing “late-night parties, traffic and noise.”

A furious Roisin hit back.

“We came up here for a quiet life and it has been anything but. I will not let these people dictate to me,” she said.

One complaint claimed that “multiple families” would party “late into the evening,” but Roisin alleged that “sour grapes” were at the heart of the grievances.

She added that it was unlikely that two holiday cabins could be responsible for an upsurge in traffic.

One of the complaints said “multiple families” would party “late into the evening” at the cabins – and planning officials refused permission for the lodges to stay.

She continued: “The planning officer who refused it didn’t even come out to see the property. If they had they would see there is space for around 10 cars.

“My husband and I have one car between us and most of the guests who visit us are regular visitors with just one car.

“That’s three cars in total.

“That’s the disappointing thing, we mostly get young families who just want to get outside with their children and experience somewhere new.

Roisin also hit out at one of those who complained, alleging that they had five cars outside their home.

“That is much more of a traffic disruption,” she claimed.

“Our guests actually contribute to the local shops and businesses and I think that has been forgotten about.”

Roisin said the couple – who formerly worked 100 miles away for South Wales Police based in Cardiff – erected the wooden cabins in the cottage grounds in just three days in 2019.

Roisin said it took her “around two weeks” to her to varnish the glamping pods and then applied for planning permission.

She said: “It was on again off again due to Covid and eventually they told us we needed to reapply.”

And she has vowed to fight back with an appeal after their planning application was rejected by Ceredigion County Council.

We came up here for a quiet life and it has been anything but. I will not let these people dictate to me.

Their Instagram page has several positive reviews from guests and the only review on TripAdvisor also gives it five stars.

One guest wrote: “Our cabin was so cute and the stream running down in front was so therapeutic.”

Five neighbours objected to the application as did Troedyraur Community Council with concerns over increased traffic in the village of Rhydlewis.

One objector said: “All guests have use of an ‘entertainment’ area situated at the bottom of the applicant’s garden which backs on to a number of residents’ properties.

“There can be multiple families using this social area which includes loud music, singing, and shouting over the music.

“A loud party is enjoyed by all often late into the evenings including weeknights. The location of this site negatively impacts the lives of a number of residents which is not fair.”

The officer’s report for Ceredigion Council recommended refusal, saying: “In light of receipt of several neighbour objections to this development the potential harm to immediate neighbours has been thoroughly assessed.

“Given the rural location of the development site it is considered that the siting of the cabins are close to neighbouring properties on both north and south boundaries.

“The relatively restricted area of land provide for the siting of all three cabins would result in an unacceptable intensified use which would likely result in excessive noise and disturbance to nearby occupiers thus causing demonstrable harm to the living conditions that could be reasonably expected within such a rural village.

“Given that the development has previously been run unlawfully the effects of the development on neighbouring amenity is confirmed by representations received as part of this application.”

The Sun has reached out to Ceredigion County Council for comment.

‘Spiteful’ mum, 25, is GUILTY of faking DNA test to block newborn baby’s biological dad from seeing her

A “SPITEFUL” mum has been found guilty of faking a DNA test to block her baby’s biological dad from seeing her.

Georgina Saville, 25, spun a callous web of lies to “derail” Kyle Fitton’s legal bid to see the newborn and another daughter they shared.

The pair had been in a “toxic” four-year relationship, with Kyle, 26, moving out shortly after Saville fell pregnant with their second child.

She gave birth to the baby girl in January 2022 but blocked her ex from seeing the newborn.

When his legal team requested a DNA test from his ex, she sent them bogus results claiming the baby girl belonged to her new boyfriend.

Saville was today convicted of perverting the course of public justice and a rare charge of wilfully making a false declaration as to a birth.

She wept as the verdict was delivered after just two hours of deliberation.

Southampton Crown Court was told Saville and Kyle had applied for non-molestation orders against each other following the baby’s birth.

Kyle then started legal proceedings in the Family Court regarding access to his two children and getting his name added to the newborn’s birth certificate.

His eligibility to apply for those orders “depended upon him having parental responsibility” by being the biological dad to both girls.

When Saville was asked for a DNA test, she at first claimed Kyle was not the dad and that her children had “nothing to do with him”.

She later sent over an apparent test result that claimed her new boyfriend Danny Mellows was the dad.

This was despite her messaging her mum admitting her two daughters were “full blood sisters”.

She had also text her, saying: “I’m sticking to saying he’s not the dad to this one, I’ve had enough”.

Prosecutor Nick Tucker said Saville “sought to mislead [Kyle] and his solicitor and, if taken at face value, that test result might have deterred him from pursuing the proceedings any further”.

He added: “We say this was a spiteful and calculated attempt to derail his case by dishonest means.”

In July 2022, another DNA test was ordered by the Family Court that confirmed the baby’s paternity.

Despite this, Saville went back to the Registry Office and changed the birth certificate to claim Mellows was the father.

Mr Tucker said: “He wasn’t the father. He must’ve known that, and certainly Georgina Saville knew that.

“Knowing that Kyle was the father, she made a false declaration to Births and Deaths, knowing in so doing she would effectively be able to show (Mr Mellows) had parental responsibility whereas (Mr Fitton) would not.”

After she was arrested, Saville claimed biology “didn’t mean anything”, the court was told.

The mum also admitted providing the “made up” DNA test to save some cash and get her ex “off my back”.

In her evidence, she admitted she doctored the DNA test result by downloading an image online and editing the names.

Coronation Street star lands new role alongside Peter Andre – 5 years after leaving ITV soap and breast cancer battle

CORONATION Street star Victoria Ekanoye joins Peter Andre in the upcoming international series Falcon, five years after leaving the soap.

The dramatic thriller is set to be released next summer.

She will now appear opposite Peter Andre in Falcon[/caption]

Victoria is best known for portraying Angie Appleton on Coronation Street from 2017 to 2019.

Five years after leaving the soap, she has signed up for an exciting new role.

She will play Professor Victoria Bassey in the new thriller Falcon, which has been described as a cross between Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code.

Falcon follows Greg Falcon (Noah Huntley), who, whilst vacationing in Malta, stumbles across a dark and deluded online scheme – a scheme that could destabilise the whole world.

Assisted by Bassey, a professor of antiquities, Falcon uncovers a sinister plot that dates back almost two thousand years. They come face to face with a megalomaniac, Hector Laidlaw (Peter Andre) and it becomes a race against time.

Peter Andre plays the charming yet ominous Hector Laidlaw, an internet fiend who uses his influencer role to manipulate and dominate the people around him.

Set entirely in Malta and Gozo, the eagerly anticipated Falcon is set to be one of the biggest and most ambitious series ever shot on the islands, by UK-based Picture Point Films

Falcon also stars Richard Ashton (Fifth Element, Hellraiser), Irish actor Joe Savino (Ballykissangel, Braveheart, The Crying Game) and Daniel Coll (Emmerdale, Braveheart) and also featuring top Maltese talent.

Producer and actor Daniel gushed: “Written by the brilliant Dave Thorp this show will be thrilling to watch and great family viewing, with a fabulous cast. We look forward to Falcon hitting TV screens next summer.”

This exciting new role for Victoria comes five years after she quit the cobbles and more recently announced that she is now cancer-free

In 2021, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) and has since undergone a double mastectomy.

The actress discovered a lump in her breast and, considering her family history of cancer, wasted no time in taking action.

Three years on from her life-changing diagnosis, Victoria has shared the good news that she is now cancer-free.

She took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce her PET scan came back clear.

Coronation Street's 2024 shock exits

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

Alongside a snap with her partner Jonny Lomas and their son, Théo, Victoria captioned the post: “Taken the day I revealed my Breast Cancer diagnosis, 2021.

“Just received my blood & PET scan results, I can finally say… I’m CANCER FREE.

She continued: “Thank you to those who formed my safety net. I’m humbled to have such beautiful humans in my life. 2024 Let’s go!”

Victoria continued to act in the face of her cancer battle appearing in popular series like Death in Paradise and The Turkish Detective, as well as the 2024 TV movie Sense and Sensibility.

She will return to screens as Professor Bassey in 2025.
