Tyson Fury’s cousin Hughie puts on dominant display in win over Christian Thun making it three from three since comeback

HUGHIE FURY put in a brilliant performance in a dominant win over Christian Thun in Sheffield.

Tyson Fury’s cousin made it three wins from three since making his boxing comeback earlier in April.

Fury, 30, got off to a great start as he hammered his German opponent with several body shots.

Then right on the bell, he cornered Thun and landed a powerful right hook.

It was much of the same in round two as Fury continued to be the aggressor – but the man nicknamed “Hurricane” stood strong and began to land his combinations.

The third round saw Hughie land two good uppercuts and a strong right hand as Thun continued to absorb the punches well.

Fury then took control and began to turn it on in the fourth as the constant body shorts seemed to finally take their toll as the 6ft 8in giant winced.

In the fifth of the eight round bout, Thun fought back but drew a response from the Brit with more strong body shots.

A big one-two from him pushed Thun onto the ropes in the sixth round, only for him to survive another onslaught.

Fury then smelt blood and tried to go for the knockout in the seventh – but despite his knees buckling, Thun continued to survive.

He went for the knockout at the end but had to settle for a win via decision.

My manager used to drive me to training when we played together – now we’re targeting Premier League promotion

ANDREAS WEIMANN once shared a car to training as a young pro  with John Eustace when they were Watford team-mates.

He is hoping his now manager can steer him and Blackburn back into the Premier League fast lane.

Weimann revealed how manager John Eustace used to drive him to training when they starred together[/caption]

Weimann, 33, has not played in the top flight for nine years since he left Aston Villa, losing three times in the play-offs.

He was unsuccessful with Derby in 2016 and 2018 and with West Brom last season while on loan from Bristol City — all in the semi-finals.

And it has been 12 long years since Rovers graced the Premier League.

The Austrian attacking midfielder told SunSport: “This is my tenth  season in the Championship.

“It’s been such a long time since I was in the Premier League.

“I loved every minute of it when I was there with Villa.

“I spent six years with Bristol City and it was disappointing not to have won promotion with them.

“We just fell short of the play-offs so it’s definitely frustrating not to have gone up from this league since dropping down.

BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS

“If I win promotion here with Blackburn it would top my career.”

And Rovers have certainly got off to a flying start this season. They go into thier clash with QPR unbeaten after six games and on 12 points.

Weimann, who only signed this summer from Ashton gate, has wasted no time in endearing himself to the Ewood Park faithful.

He scored a stunning volley to earn a 1-1 draw at rivals Burnley, which won him the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award.

And Weimann said: “It just dropped perfectly for me and  felt like an age for the ball to go in — but it’s a goal I’m definitely never going to forget.

“I’ve only been at the club for a month-and-a-half and everyone told me how important this game was.

“So to score in front of the away fans at Turf Moor was brilliant.

“I’m just really enjoying it. I have come in and settled down well with all the lads.

“I feel good in myself and the body and the start has been great for us.

“We’re still unbeaten and there’s such a feel-good factor around the club. The work the boys did in pre-season has reaped rewards.

“What the manager worked on with them, you see coming out in games. The gaffer has got us close together.

“You can see that on the pitch, where a couple of games have been tight — but our togetherness has got us through those games, either getting us a point or all three.”

Andreas Weimann career stats

Aston Villa (2009-2015): 129 games, 24 goals, 12 assists

Bristol City (2018-2024): 216 games, 51 goals, 29 assists

Derby (2015-2018): 88 games, 9 goals, 6 assists

Watford (loan 2011/12): 22 games, 4 goals, 2 assists

Wolves (loan 2017/18): 21 games, 3 goals, 2 assists

West Brom (loan 2024): 13 games, 2 goals, 2 assists

Blackburn* 2024-present): 8 games, 3 goals

Austria national team (2012-2024): 25 caps, 2 goals

Weimann says it was because Eustace was Rovers boss that he decided to join — despite the fact the club were only spared relegation on the final day of last season.

And he admits it does feel bizarre playing for him now, years after being his team-mate and sharing a car to and from Watford’s training ground each morning.

He explained: “It’s a bit strange calling him gaffer — but apart from that everything is normal.

“I was only 19 when we played together. That was such a long time ago. He’s been just brilliant since he came in and is doing well as  a coach.

“When I was at Watford on loan from Villa, I was still living in  digs in Sutton Coldfield where he lived as well.

“I didn’t drive so he gave me lifts back from Watford, so he helped me a lot.

“I can’t remember the conversations we had in the car back then — but I was certainly grateful for all his help.

“One thing that I do remember, though, are the talks we had before I came here.

“We had chats about how he wanted me to play and saw me in the team and what position he saw me  playing in.

“It all sounded good. The base of the squad was good.

“They should not have been where they were last season and the quality of the new players has  helped us improve.”

And Blackburn have been entertaining, too. Only Sunderland and Burnley (13) have scored more than the 12  Rovers have put away so far.

And Weimann said: “We’ve worked a lot in units, where all the forwards go away and work on how the opposition set up and how we can break them down.

“Then, the new lads have come in and it’s clicked a  bit for everyone.

“If you look at Blackburn in the last few years, they  always had one high goalscorer — so scored lots.

“We’re sharing it around now but it’s always been a club where we’ve scored a lot of goals, to be fair.”

The Austrian is now targeting  promotion and added: “I’ve lost in the play-offs three times so I’d like to settle that score.

“But  the first aim is to make sure we’re not anywhere near where the club were last season.

“Yet if we can stay consistent, we’ll be there or thereabouts.”

AN EastEnders legend has landed a huge new role – just days after making a shock comeback to Walford.

The Feud’s cast also features fellow EastEnders legend Larry Lamb[/caption]

The actor, who played Jake Moon in the BBC soap, will appear alongside the likes of Jill Halfpenny and Rupert Penry-Jones.

Also in the cast are Larry Lamb, Chris Gascoyne, Ray Fearon and Amy Nuttall.

Taking to Instagram, the actor shared: “Loved working on this earlier in the year, really looking forward to ‘The Feud’ on Channel 5 coming out later this year!”

Previously, Joel was an EastEnders regular for two years, from 2004 to 2006.

In a surprise twist earlier this month, his character Jake returned to Albert Square for the first time in almost two decades.

Viewers saw Jake reunite with former lover Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), who had just been released from prison.

Cruising together in a sports car, they stopped off outside the Queen Vic, where Chrissie remarked: “Just had to see her one last time. Fancy a swift half?”

However, Jake replied: “Nineteen years I’ve waited to get my hands on you again, a cheeky half in the Vic is not what I had in mind.

“Now get in that car.”

The two drove off together, with Jake just missing out on seeing his cousin Alfie (Shane Richie).

This cameo appearance finally resolved the long-running mystery of Jake’s fate.

The character’s final scenes back in 2006 implied he was about to be killed, following a misunderstanding – although fans now know he survived.

Speaking after his EastEnders comeback aired, actor Joel revealed: “It felt lovely to be back.

“Although it was a new set it felt really familiar, and it felt like I’d never been away.

Chrissie Watts' biggest EastEnders storylines

Chrissie Watts was played by Tracy-Ann Oberman and is widely considered to be one of the best villains in soap history.

The character first arrived in Albert Square in 2004 as she was looking for her estranged husband Den Watts.

After she was persuaded to give their marriage another go, she then discovered he had an adopted daughter, Sharon (Letitia Dean) along with two other children, Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) and Vicki Fowler (Scarlett Alice Johnson).

Chrissie soon discovers that Den has been having an affair with the local ex-policewoman, Kate Morton (Jill Halfpenny). Chrissie initially worked together with Kate in the salon, before she got her revenge by hacking off her hair in revenge.

Chrissie and Den reconciled as she told him that she would kill him if he ever cheated on her again. Together, they decided to defraud Sam Mitchell (Kim Metcalfe) and her family from everything, including their ownership the Queen Vic. However, she soon felt left out by Den after he begins another affair with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), when he tries to get her pregnant after she lied to Dennis.

Dennis discovered the affair. Chrissie then persuaded Zoe to abort the baby. Together with Sam Mitchell, they concoct a plan to get their own revenge on Den and either Chrissie or Sam will get hold of the pub.

They confront him on the night of his 37th wedding anniversary with Angie. Den is unmoved and confesses all of his wrongdoings, including Chrissie’s part in defrauding the Mitchell’s. However, Sharon was waiting in the shadows and she denounces Den before leaving Watford.

Chrissie taunted Den who then attacked her. In turn, Zoe then hits Den with a doorstop which belonged to Den’s sworn enemy Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard). Sam and Zoe panic, but a smug Chrissie taunted him when they were left alone. He violently grabbed her leg before she delivered the fatal blow to his head with the heavy object, unaware that Sam was secretly watching her.

Zoe was left unaware of the true extent of what happened that night and Chrissie allowed her to think that she killed Den. The trio hid the body in the Vic, before Sam confronted Chrissie about what she truly saw. Sam demanded that the ownership of the pub reverted back to the Mitchell family.

Sam tells Zoe the truth about the murder and Zoe leaves Walford. but she tells Kat (Jessie Wallace) about the killing. Sam gets drunk on Sharon and Dennis’ wedding day, digs up den’s body in the hope that Chrissie will be sent down. But Chrissie feigned grief as she comforted Sharon over her dad’s death. Sam told the police about the murder, but when Den’s blood was found under Sam’s sink, complete with her changing story, she got the blame for his murder. Chrissie also convinces Kat to get Stacey (Lacey Turner) to give a false alibi to the police that Zoe and Chrissie were with Kat her that night.

Sam’s mother Peggy (Barbara Windsor) returned to Walford and slapped Chrissie who fell into Den’s grave at the funeral. The matriarch also accused her of murder by framing her daughter. Stacey soon learned the truth and she blackmailed Chrissie for money. In return, she then forms a relationship with Jake Moon (Joel Beckett) and she attempts to sell the Queen Vic to Jake’s gangland boss Johnny Allen (Billy Murray).

After making a series of mistakes, she planned to free the country with Jake. Before then, they argued at Johnny’s nightclub, where Chrissie confessed that she killed Den with the doorstop. Johnny told Phil and Grant about the tape but Chrissie and Jake were already on their way out of the country. However, they were almost stopped by Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) and Billy (Perry Fenwick) informed the police. At the airport, she was confronted by Sharon and was arrested by police after an exchange of words and a punch to the face.

Chrissie only co-operated with the force in exchange for a meeting with Sharon, as she tried to get her to understand why she killed Den. In the meantime, Sam was released on bail but fled to Brazil with the help of Phil. Jake visited her in prison and proposes to her. However, she discovered that he lost the £25,000 that was to be her bail money and she called him an ‘idiot’ before storming out. She then decided to get revenge on Sharon for sending her to prison. She attempted to force her to testify in court about what Den was like as Chrissie thought that Sharon would crumble. But still looking at Sharon like a step-daughter she called off her plan, fired her solicitor and plead guilty to the murder. She was then sentenced to life imprisonment.

“You never forget Albert Square.”

Meanwhile, the star is also a familiar face to fans of classic BBC sitcom The Office.

He played the role of Lee, Dawn’s (Lucy Davis) fiancé who worked in the warehouse.

EastEnders airs on BBC One and is available on iPlayer.

Enzo Maresca demands ALL Chelsea players attend Stamford Bridge even if not selected in bid to ‘create something’

ENZO MARESCA wants all of his troops in Chelsea’s cheerleading squad — whether they are playing or not.

It follows a conspicuous display of unity on Tuesday night, when a group of players not involved against minnows Barrow in the Carabao Cup turned up in support of their team-mates and sat behind the home dugout.

Enzo Maresca is making members of Chelsea’s bloated squad come to every game[/caption]

Captain Reece James, Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke, keeper Robert Sanchez, Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo were among those who later went on the pitch to celebrate a 5-0 victory.

Boss Maresca insists it is a key part of the team effort for everyone to turn up, whether it be in boots or not.

The Italian believes attention to small details plays a big part in performances.

He said: “The ones in the squad have to be there and the ones not in the squad have to be there too.

“In a normal team you have to behave like a team and if there is a game they have to be there.

“For sure, it will happen tomorrow. If there is a problem and some of them cannot come, then that is not a problem.

“I don’t know whether we say that it is a rule but when there is a game the players have to be there.

“In terms of culture, it is quite normal that if my team-mate is playing a game, I am there before the game to support him and I am there after the game to support him in case he wins, loses, does well or does badly.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

“It is normal for them to be there whether it is Premier League or Carabao Cup, whatever competition.

“If we want to create something then these small things are  important. I just said that I want all of them there.”

Chelsea’s dressed-down players turned up in snazzy hoodies and trendy street clothing to back their pals.

One cheeky member of the non-playing squad even dashed into the press room at half-time to nab a sausage roll earmarked for journalists.

Maresca joked: “Some of them were in bad clothes? OK, I can manage inside the pitch but the way they dress is not my job.”

Players not in the squad have turned up to games before but team-minded Maresca is making a bigger deal of it to breed unity in a dressing room which has undergone huge changes in recent months.

It may play a part in the upturn in form with Chelsea seeking a fourth straight victory against Brighton and sitting three points from the top of the Premier League in fifth place.

There is recent history between the two clubs which could make things a little trickier for the Blues at Stamford Bridge — but with only skipper James on the injured list, the Italian at least has a virtually full strength squad to choose from.

Maresca was full of praise for Marc Cucurella[/caption]

Among them are rejuvenated defender Marc Cucurella and midfielder Caicedo. Both acquired from Brighton for a combined fee of £177m.

The pressure that goes with that means it has taken time for the pair to settle in fully – but Maresca believes we are starting to see the best from the former Seagulls.

He said: “Marc is a very intelligent player. He is very clever.

“Against Bournemouth he played like an attacking midfielder, against West Ham he played like a holding midfielder.

“From day one, I have said I don’t want them doing things without understanding why they are doing it.

“I am not asking just to run or do this. It is nice to help the players understand why they do things.

“Marc is one of those guys that when we ask him to do something, we explain why. You can see in some players that even when you explain why they struggle a little bit to understand.

“Marc is one of those guys who immediately understands. He is a versatile player and gives us different options.

“I don’t think the price should be a problem. Sometimes it can put them under pressure.

“I know Moises from Brighton. I watched a lot of games from Moises in that season.

“At the moment for us, he’s a very important player. He’s doing well, especially off the ball.

“But he can do much, much, much better on the ball and be more brave, breaking lines. He is doing very well but he can be even better on the ball.”

Chelsea also nabbed Sanchez as part of a major raid on their South Coast opponents, who are still unbeaten in the Premier League so far this campaign.

Maresca said: “The Brighton fans may not be happy but the Brighton owner would be very happy.

“It is a matter of balance. They are former players but the reason  they are at Chelsea — and the reason why Chelsea paid money for them — was because, when they were at Brighton, their fans were happy at that moment.

“This is because Moises, Cucurella, Robert and Levi Colwill, who was there on loan, are fantastic players. I am very happy to have them.”

Chelsea player ratings vs Barrow

JOAO FELIX and Christopher Nkunku stole the show as Chelsea thrashed Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

A hat-trick from Nkunku along with goals from Felix and Pedro Neto secured a 5-0 third round win at Stamford Bridge.

Here’s how the starting XI rated…

Filip Jorgensen – 6

Looked shaky as Barrow launched a string of early throw-ins into the box. Forced into a smart stop down to his right at the start of the second half but otherwise untroubled.

Malo Gusto – 7

Lack of threat from visitors allowed him freedom of the right flank and the full-back regularly posed a threat as he linked up with Neto.

Axel Disasi – 6

Unconvincing in possession despite little pressure but performed defensive duties throughout in solid partnership with Benoit Badiashile.

Benoit Badiashile – 6

Barely troubled by Barrow forward Emile Acquah. Assured in possession and showed his passing range by switching play to his wingers when available.

Renato Veiga – 6

Looked a class above when stepping into midfield when Chelsea were in possession but far from convincing in defence. Gave away several needless free-kicks in dangerous areas.

Cesare Casadei – 7

Shaky at first on his maiden Chelsea touch before growing into the game in the centre of the park.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 7

Afforded plenty of time and space on the ball for much of the game and even came close to a goal of his own.

Pedro Neto – 7

Link-up play with Malo Gusto was a constant threat down the right. Finished off a flowing team move for his first Chelsea goal.

Joao Felix – 8

Unlocked the Barrow defence with a beautiful scooped pass to set up Nkunku’s opener. Followed it up with a perfectly placed free-kick off the post to put his side 3-0 up before half-time.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 7

Gave Chelsea an outlet with his pace down the left, showed to perfection as he raced away before squaring for Neto to score moments into the second half.

Christopher Nkunku – 9

Showed his clinical edge in front of goal by grabbing a hat-trick with three well-taken strikes inside the penalty area, including an exquisite back-heeled flick into the corner.

Subs

Ben Chilwell (45’ for Gusto) – 6

Given a rapturous reception on his return from the Chelsea ‘bomb squad’. Tightened up the left-hand side for the Blues, with Veiga moving to central defence.

Tyrique George (63’ for Neto) – 6

Dragged a brilliant chance to score his first Chelsea goal wide of the post. Later denied by Farman as he showed promise down the right.

Josh Acheampong (63’ for Disasi) – 6

Slotted into the back four with ease and executed his defensive duties on his second senior appearance.

Marc Guiu (76′ for Nkunku) – 6

Continued to provide a threat to the tiring Barrow defence late on.

Carney Chukwuemeka (76′ for Felix) – 6

Quickly imposed himself on the action with several powerful runs through midfield to drive the hosts forward.

Arsenal tried every trick in the book and still couldn’t topple Man City – Mikel Arteta needs to cherish that point

ELITE football is a war-game that begins with the manager and ends with the referee’s final whistle.

Under-fire Arsenal, a man short, played the war game and eventually shared the points with champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta may have deployed the dark arts against Manchester City[/caption]
a man wearing a watch is clapping his hands

But he should savour that point[/caption]

They have been accused of “dark arts” by crudely wasting time, but it seems a huge majority of teams use similar tactics in the circumstances.

Mikel Arteta is an exceptional manager, so suggestions that he deployed a rookie player to tell goalkeeper David Raya to feign injury was unworthy of him.

The poor young pro who was apparently sent to deliver the message to Raya was rewarded with a yellow card for unsporting behaviour, this before he had played a single minute of professional football.

But no matter the tactics, unsporting or otherwise, his players did what they were told and were ruthless in trying to retain their 2-1 lead.

Yet in a way their steely defence confirmed how difficult it is to overcome the class of the four-in-row champions.

Just as well Sunday’s 107min 17sec marathon was competently refereed by Michael Oliver.

Not so easy in a match of colliding bodies, fierce tackles and endless delays.

Oddly this stirring 2-2 draw was fascinating.

I am quite sure Pep Guardiola would not have been as fractious as his former assistant but as the saying goes “needs must as the devil drives”.

One or two Arsenal players might have been tempted to break ranks.

At half-time Arteta set the tactics to give the Gunners a chance to win — and his players did as they were told.

Like every manager, Arteta is THE BOSS.

No prizes for guessing the orders the Spaniard gave to his men: simply, stay back and stop them.

Pushing, wrestling, body-checking, time-wasting are ugly but commonplace and they still exist despite many crackdowns.

Managers tend to turn a blind eye to most fouls unless a penalty results or an offender is sent off.

In first-half injury-time, Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard saw red for kicking the ball away and receiving his second booking.

Arsenal ratings vs Man City

TEN-MAN Arsenal came desperately close to beating Man City.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta’s men, John Stones popped up in the 98th minute to score an equaliser with the match ending 2-2.

Here’s how the players rated…

DAVID RAYA – 9

Well beaten for Haaland’s opener but continued his impressive start to the season with some super second half stops – notably from Haaland and Gvardiol.

RICARDO CALAFIORI – 8

A full debut the Italian won’t forget. Didn’t get close enough to Savinho for the opening goal but made amends with his stunning long range curler to level it.

GABRIEL – 9

Planted one header over but made no mistake with his second one just before the break to score for the second straight weekend.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 8

Clattered by Haaland early on and lost the Norwegian for City’s goal – but dusted himself down and led the rearguard action for the visitors superbly.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 8

Asked to play an unfamiliar role on the right but did a great job for his boss keeping the livewire Doku quiet – and did fine when Pep changed it around too.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 7

Caused Walker plenty of problems in the first half. Played the ball back for Calafiori to score and teed up another great chance for Trossard.

DECLAN RICE – 7

Helped Arsenal work their way back into the game after early onslaught – and protected the back four so well when City were camped on the edge of the box.

THOMAS PARTEY – 7

Quick thinking from free-kick led to equaliser – also involved in the collision with Rodri that changed the course of the game.

BUKAYO SAKA – 6

Always a threat with his corners – not least when Arsenal got their second. Subbed at the break to make way for an extra defender.

LEANDRO TROSSARD – 4

Steered good chance over. Booked for pulling back Savinho then a second yellow for barge on Silva and then delaying the restart. Stupid from the Belgian.

KAI HAVERTZ – 7

Early collision with Rodri and caused a few problems in the first half but then had to focus on helping his 10 man team out defensively.

SUBS

WHITE – 7

(For Saka 46) – Thrown on to shore up the defence at the break – and did exactly that.

KIWIOR – 6

(For Calafiori 74 )– Gave the Italian a rest for the final few minutes and kept it tight.

JESUS – 6

(For Martinelli 87) – Some good pressing against his old team in the closing minutes

LEWIS SKELLY – 6

(For Timber 90) – Good experience for the youngster but was bizarrely booked before even coming on for his debut.

No doubt Arteta was furious — not least because Declan Rice committed the same silliness earlier this month and missed a match.

Managers tend to be practical and Arteta knew all too well how City dominate opponents of the highest class.

With his weakened team, he ordered impassible non-stop defence, last-minute blocked shots, strong tackles, muscle in the six-yard box and decisive heading.

No way were his men going to chuck away their lead, defending it as if it were the Siege of the Etihad, bloody but unbeaten.

All of this to succeed in running down the clock and defy City by any way legal or close to it.

They did this with a lock-tight defence, holding off one of the world’s best teams until John Stones finally equalised deep into added time.

Yet Arteta should cherish the point. Players are vastly paid and often spoiled but here was an example of defiance that is as much to be admired as challenged.

Yes, Arsenal’s time-wasting was epic. They used every trick in the book but, on balance, two lost league points for City was a small win for their closest rivals.
