Del Boy’s iconic three-wheeled ‘grubby’ yellow van sells at auction for £26k

DEL Boy’s three-wheeled van that appeared in the epic chandelier episode of Only Fools & Horses has sold at auction for £26,000.

The yellow Reliant Regal Supervan III with “Trotters Independent Trading Co” on the side was featured by the Trotters in the first two seasons of the beloved BBC sitcom.

It is one of the most readily recognised vehicles on British television[/caption]

This includes the iconic 1982 episode “A Touch of Glass,” where Rodney drives the van into the countryside, leading Del and Grandad to encounter the lady of a nearby manor house whose car has broken down.

Upon entering the stately home, Del pretends to be a chandelier expert and offers to clean Lord Ridgemere’s Louis XVI chandelier, resulting in disastrous yet hilarious consequences.

When the priceless piece crashes to the floor Del, Rodney and Grandad make a quick getaway in the battered-looking yellow van.

The 1972 van was one of six bought by the BBC for Only Fools & Horses.

The van, which has a top speed of 55mph and has done 97,000 miles, was acquired by the late BBC film producer John Mansfield after it was no longer needed for filming.

It later passed into the hands of a private collector who sold it at Classic Car Auctions, of Ashorne, Warks, for more than £8,000 over the estimated price.

The three-wheeled motor, which is in good running order, sold along with props from the show including a market suitcase, fluffy dice and an inflatable doll.

The auctioneers said it belonged in the top echelon of British TV vehicles.

A Classic Car Auctions spokesperson said: “The van was used for two series which included the famous chandelier scene.

“The little van must rank alongside Inspector Morse’s Jaguar Mk2 and Jim Bergerac’s Triumph Roadster as one of the most readily recognised vehicles on British television.

“In the TV series, the Reliant Regal was owned by Trotter’s Independent Traders – aka Rodney & Del Boy Trotter.

“The grubby yellow Reliant was in effect a co-star with David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

“Serving as the Trotters’ main mode of transport, the van was used to store Trotters Independent Traders & Co stock and transport the family to several destinations.

“Only Fools & Horses remains in the hearts of so many of us with the stage musical drawing record audiences to this day and due to go on tour nationwide very soon.”

Only Fools & Horses’ first series was broadcast in 1981.

The 1996 episode ‘Time on Our Hands’ attracted a record 24.3million viewers.

The iconic Only Fools three-wheeled van had previously been on sale for £18,000.

And a rarely seen motor that was once hugely popular in the UK can be yours for a bargain price.

I’ve put my husband on a spooning ban in bed – he can’t touch me before 7am and he knows what’ll happen if he does

A WIFE has revealed how she put her husband on a strict spooning ban.

And she’s even sarcastically threatened to “murder him” if he tries to “snuggle up to her” before 7am.

One couple’s marriage is on the brink of divorce due to the husband’s “disgusting” sleep habit

The woman took to Mumsnet to moan about her spouse and seek advice.

“My husband is a hugger,” she penned.

“He has three pillows: one for his head, chest and back.

“But sometimes, when his pillow fort fails him, he snuggles up to me, inevitably waking me in the process.

“He thinks I’m a cold woman for grumbling about hugs.

“I think I’m going to murder him if I don’t get uninterrupted sleep.”

As a result of her grievance – and strongly disliking the midnight affection – she put a time ban on cuddling

“I proposed a time ban,” she continued.

“He can’t snuggle me before 7am, when our kids are waking up.

“He says that would defeat the purpose of him snuggling himself back to sleep if he had to look at the time.

“Can I kill him?”

The wife’s post received mixed reactions on Mumsnet

While some people called her a “grinch”, others called her husband “disgusting” and “selfish”.

Some women even agreed that being woken up for a cuddle in the night would also make them “murderous”.

“This is a great example of someone being an entitled bully but disguising it as love and affection,” one penned about the husband.

Another slammed: “Ask him how he’s going to sleep when he’s single if he needs to snuggle back to sleep.

“What a disgusting man.

“You are being objectified – he thinks you’re a tool to help him and not a full human being with needs.”

A third related: “My partner sets an alarm so he has time to cuddle me and I find it so f*****g irritating.”

She recently underwent a non-surgical facelift

And every year heads off on a strict juicing retreat[/caption]

Ahead of the current series of the BBC One competition Shirley started a series of non-envasive NeoGen Plasma treatments as an alternative to going under the knife.

She said: “Just like anybody, I just want to look the best that I can at my age, but the problem is that when you reach mid 60s and older, it gets so much harder to keep your skin looking in great shape, and I was keen to find a non-surgical way to revitalise my skin.”

Treatments include procedures to remove lines and wrinkles as well as micro-needling and radio frequency sessions.

Every year just before Strictly season Shirley heads off on a Jason Vale juice retreat in Portugal, which sets her back an eye-watering £1, 457 per week.

Each day follows a structured schedule, beginning with meditation and yoga.

A morning walk and circuit training session are followed by a refreshing juice break, a spin class, and another yoga session.

The afternoon includes additional juice, high-intensity training, rebounding, and a game of volleyball.

To conclude the day, guests enjoy a final juice, yoga practice, and a nourishing soup.

But Shirley also has a strict beauty regime that she follows.

She previously told woman&home: “I never go to bed without using moisturizer and over the last five years I’ve mostly used Liz Earle products. They’re great!

“I also use Nivea and Astral cream, and any kind of moisturizing mask for my hands, feet and face. When you get older, your hands and neck are the first things to age.”

But Shirley isn’t ruling out surgery down the line and admits to having Botox occasionally.

She said: “I am partial to a little Botox. I like a bit maybe twice a year and, I’m not going to lie, I’m open to a facelift.

“When I look at myself on the telly, I don’t like the way my chin’s looking from the side profile so I’ll go and see the guy who did my boobs and if I do it, I’ll be transparent.”

Some TV boxes will lose ITV1 and ITV2 channels in days unless viewers upgrade ahead of major shake-up

ITV1 and ITV2 will disappear from some TV boxes in a matter of days due to a big satellite overhaul.

The British broadcaster is pulling the SD (standard definition) version of its two main channels from satellite altogether in October.

This will affect Sky or Freesat viewers with dated boxes.

Freeview and Virgin Media services remain unchanged.

Broadcasters have been gradually switching off their SD output on satellite in favour of HD only.

The BBC already completed its plan earlier in the year.

And Sky is about to do the same, forcing owners of old kit to upgrade or face their subscription being cancelled automatically.

ITV has already yanked SD versions of ITV3, ITV4 and ITVBe.

But in October, ITV1 and ITV2 will join them, completing the company’s transition.

ITV says only one per cent of satellite set-top boxes are SD only.

Some older boxes are only able to receive SD broadcasts, meaning affected viewers will no longer be able to watch ITV unless they get a new box.

Dated boxes in Scotland will also lose STV as a result.

“Here at ITV, we have completed our upgrade to all-HD on satellite for ITV1, bringing the best picture quality to all satellite viewers,” ITV explained earlier this month.

“From October 2024, households with an SD-only satellite set-top box will need to upgrade to a High Definition (HD) satellite receiver to continue to watch ITV1.

“ITV1 and ITV2 nationally will no longer be available in SD on satellite.”

Freesat viewers can check if their equipment is impacted by going to channel 799.

If you see a message saying “Good news!” then you will continue to receive ITV1, ITV2 and all other channels.

If not, you will see an alert that reads: “sorry, your satellite set-top box is not capable of receiving high-definition services.”

Sky viewers can find out if they’re affected by watching the video at the top of this page.

I’ve been a mechanic for over 50 years – here’s how to spot three common scams and avoid being ripped off

A MECHANIC has explained how drivers can spot three common motoring scams used by disreputable garages to rip them off.

Brits could be being fleeced out of hundreds for dodgy repairs or unnecessary work.

Expert mechanic Scotty Kilmer alerted drivers to three common garage scams[/caption]

YouTube
He also shared some top tricks to beat fraudsters[/caption]

Drawing on his five decades of experience in the motors business, Scotty Kilmer alerted viewers to some of the most common tricks on his YouTube channel.

And he also walked motorists through some clever hacks they could use to protect themselves from scam artists.

First of all, he warned car owners to make sure that their mechanic has actually carried out all of the work they are charging for.

He claimed that a popular swindle is to claim to have replaced pricey parts but not actually do so.

For example, if a car had an issue with its oil filter, it would be a lucrative trick for the garage to replace the filter at a cost of about £20 but bill the customer several hundred for a full oil tank replacement.

Scotty urged: “Before you have them do the work, take a picture of the car and all the parts their talking about.

“And if you really don’t trust them, get some paint and put an X somewhere on the part.

“If you get your car back and the part still has that little X on it, you know they ripped you off.”

The car whizz’s other warning was for drivers to be wary of being charged for services their motor doesn’t actually need.

He added: “Learn a bit about your car.

“Take this Toyota… [the] coolant is good for seven years or 100,00 miles.

“If they tell you that it needs to be changed before then, go somewhere else.

“And lastly, people are always trying to sell alignments.

“If your steering wheel doesn’t shake…and your tyres don’t wear out weirdly, you don’t need a front-end alignment”.

Each of these dodgy charges could see you shelling out hundreds so it’s really worth doing a bit of homework before taking your car in.

Never be afraid to question the mechanic and get absolute clarity on what they are going to do to your vehicle before the work begins.

Ideally, you should be able to agree a quote for most services in advance and that should only change if they can give a valid reason why.

It comes after Martin Lewis’ MSE urged drivers to complete an easy questionnaire to help them knock hundreds off their car insurance bills.

Watch moment raging Lionel Messi ‘calls referee “mean-spirited son of a b***”‘ in furious rant after Inter Miami draw

LIONEL MESSI lashed out at a referee with an X-rated tirade after Inter Miami’s third consecutive hapless draw in the MLS.

Star-studded Miami‘s winless streak extended to three matches after a 1-1 draw with Charlotte on Saturday at the Chase Stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring with Karol Swiderski on 57 minutes but Messi, 37, equalised just 10 minutes later.

The hosts came close to snatching a late winner in the 12th minute of stoppage time.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner lofted the ball towards ex-Barcelona team-mate Jordi Alba, who headed it across to another Blaugrana legend in Luis Suarez.

However, Suarez failed to score from close range as he volleyed the ball over the bar.

The striker then rolled on the ground in agony after colliding with Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.

Messi was seething at full-time as he claimed the Liverpool legend should have been awarded a penalty.

The camera caught the star forward lambasting the official after the final whistle.

According to Ole via Mundo Deportivo, Messi told the referee: “You’re a mean-spirited son of a b***h!”

Surprisingly the ref only showed the Argentina captain a yellow card instead of a red.

Charlotte had a goal ruled out for offside during the match when Kerwin Vargas beat Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender from close range.

Messi continues to dominate the MLS with a whopping total of 15 goals and 10 assists in 16 appearances.

Man Utd plotting shock transfer raid on Sunderland that could spell the end for Erik ten Hag signing

MANCHESTER UNITED are watching Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson as they look for a new No 2.

The Red Devils want a young shot-stopper to understudy Andre Onana and 24-year-old Patterson is firmly in their sights.

Ten Hag is keen to have more competition behind Andre Onana[/caption]

Former goalie Tony Coton, now United’s keeper scout, is checking out the Black Cats star as he fits the bill in every way.

Coach Erik ten Hag is firmly behind Onana as his first choice so Altay Bayindir, 26, has hardly had a chance and may move.

Bayindir has won ten caps for Turkey and faced Portugal at Euro 2024 — but his appearance in the 7-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley this month was only his second for United since joining in summer 2023.

Ten Hag is keen to have more competition for Onana.

Patterson has been linked with moves in the past but is yet to get the Premier League call and the England Under-21 cap may have to initially settle for being a reserve at a top-flight club.

Crystal Palace have also taken an interest in Patterson but can only offer a reserve role behind Dean Henderson.

Liverpool also short-listed Patterson ahead of a possible exit for Republic of Ireland cap Caoimhin Kelleher, but that would be as cover again.

Sunderland price Patterson at around £20million but may take less.

They will not want to lose him this season as they chase promotion, so a summer switch could be more likely.

Meanwhile, Birmingham are plotting a raid on Sunderland’s 17-year-old midfielder Chris Rigg.

Their American owners have splashed out since relegation to League One and could offer £10m.

Everton are also tracking Rigg who has been on their wish list for a couple of years.
