Significant specific date on rare £2 coin that makes it worth SEVENTEEN times more – is it in your wallet?

A SPECIFIC date on your £2 coin could mean it’s worth 17 times its normal value.

A batch of coins minted in 2007 have the date 1807 etched into them – and two have now sold on eBay for £28 and £25.74.

Another sold for £28[/caption]

The coins were produced to celebrate the bicentenary of the Slave Trade Act of 1807 – which made it illegal to trade slaves inside the British Empire.

These two examples are from the Piedfort silver edition – making them particularly desirable.

The £28 sale was finalised on August 31, following 11 bids on eBay, while the £35.74 sale was finalised on September 7, following 17 bids.

According to the Britannia Coin Company website: “In a standard weight of 24.00 grams, this £2 is struck in .925 sterling silver with a band of fine gold plating around the edge reminiscent of the Two Pounds in your change.”

The website states that there were 3,990 of the Piedfort silver 1807 coins issued in total.

Regular versions of the 1807 coin are more common – with 8,445,000 minted in total – and usually only worth their £2 face value.

The coin features the words “An Act For The Abolition Of The Slave Trade” around the date.

The zero forms part of a chain design, which is broken to signify the end of slavery.

The “heads” side has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

It also features the inscription “Am I Not A Man, And A Brother” – a phrase associated with the abolition.

The sale comes after another kind of £2 coin attracted attention on eBay – selling once for £23 and once for £26.

The coin, minted in 2018, features lines from the First World War poet Wilfred Owen.

How to sell a rare coin

If, after checking, you realise you’ve come across a rare coin, there are a number of ways you can sell it.

You can sell it on eBay, through Facebook, or in an auction – but be wary of the risks.

For example, there are a number of scams targeting sellers on Facebook.

Crooks will say they’re planning to buy the item and ask for money upfront for a courier they’ll be sending around.

But it’s all a ruse to get you to send free cash to them – and they never have any intention of picking your item up.

It’s always best to meet in person when buying or selling on Facebook Marketplace.

Ensure it’s a public meeting spot that’s in a well-lit area.

Avoid payment links and log in directly through the payment method’s website.

Most sellers prefer to deal with cash directly when meeting to ensure it’s legitimate.

The safest way to sell a rare coin is more than likely at auction.

You can organise this with The Royal Mint’s Collectors Service.

It has a team of experts who can help you authenticate and value your coin.

You can get in touch via email and a member of the valuation team will get back to you.

You will be charged for the service, though – the cost varies depending on the size of your collection.

Meanwhile, you can sell rare coins on eBay.

But take into account that if you manage to sell your item then eBay will charge you 10% of the money you made – this includes postage and packaging.

Always keep proof of postage to protect yourself from dodgy buyers who may claim they never received the item.

Send the parcel by tracked delivery if you can as this way they can’t claim it never arrived.

Most valuable £2 coins

We reveal the most valuable £2 coins and how much they've sold for in the past.

2002 Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland – £60

In 2002, four different designs of this £2 coin were created to commemorate the Commonwealth games, but the Irish version is the rarest with only 485,500 minted.

We’ve seen this coin listed for as much as £60 on eBay in May with one bid.

There’s more money on the line if you’ve got the complete set though.

One seller proved this right when all four coins went for a whopping £100.

2002 Commonwealth Games England – £35

Another in the 2002 Commonwealth series, the English version is one of the rarest coins in circulation.

Some 650,500 were minted at the time, making the coin rare enough for eBay bidders to happily pay as much as £35 for it.

The edge of this coin also has the inscription “Spirit of Friendship, Manchester 2002″, which adds appeal to collectors too.

One recently went on the market on eBay for £27 with one bid.

2002 Commonwealth Games Wales – £27

With only 588,500 put into circulation, the 2002 Commonwealth Games Wales £2 coin celebrates Wales’ achievements in the event.

The piece features a figure in motion holding a banner, encircling the Welsh flag.

It is the fourth rarest in the Commonwealth set and the fourth rarest in the overall list.

We’ve seen one sell on eBay for £26.97 in May this year with 10 bids.

London 2012 Handover – £35

At the end of each Olympic Games, the next host city of the Games is celebrated with a flag handover ceremony.

In 2012 we gave the flag to Rio to take on the next tournament.

That event was immortalised on the design of a £2 coin, with just 845,000 released into circulation.

We saw one sell for £35 on eBay this month after 10 bids.

Olympic centenary – £37.95

Carrying on the sporting theme, the Olympic centenary £2 marked 100 years of the modern games in 2008.

There are 910,000 in circulation so finding one isn’t such a tough ask.

We’ve seen one version sell on eBay for £37.95 in February.

2002 Commonwealth Games Scotland – £24.97

Out of all of the valuable Commonwealth coins, Scotland’s is the sixth rarest out of all rare £2 coins.

It has a mintage of 771,750 – some 286,250 more than were released in the Irish version.

It features pretty much the same design as the other coins in the series but the Scottish flag is on the design instead.

Bidders on eBay have still paid higher than face value, we’ve seen one version sell on eBay for £24.97 in May.

Olympic handover – £9.99

Still in the top ten is the Olympic Handover coin.

This £2 details Beijing in 2008 handing over the Olympics to London in 2012, and shows the Olympic flag and two hands shaking.

One sold for precisely £9.99 in May on eBay with one bid.

There are 918,000 of these in circulation.

King James Bible – £23.95

Next on the list is a coin showing the King James Bible.

One was for £23.95 in May on eBay with one bid.

According to Change Checker, there are 975,000 in circulation.

Mary Rose – £19.50

A circulated £2 showing the famous Mary Rose ship sold on eBay for £19.50.

There are just over one million in circulation, and it lands ninth on Change Checker’s scarcity index.

2015 First World War (Navy) – £10.50

There were also 650,000 of the First World War Navy £2 coins minted in 2015.

The coin features a battleship design by military artist David Rowlands and the 5th portrait of the Queen.

It’s also the second in a five-coin series remembering the First World War and celebrates the efforts of the Royal Navy and their contribution to the war effort.

One sold on eBay in May for £10.50 with two bids.

Great Fire of London – £14.95

The Great Fire of London £2 coin was first put into circulation in 2016 to mark the 350th anniversary of the historic event.

The reverse side of the piece was designed by Aaron West, depicting the city of London burning.

The coin wasn’t always considered so rare, but it has since transpired its mintage figure was incorrectly published.

A recent auction on eBay saw the piece go for £14.95 with one bid.

Coronation Street’s John Thomson teases ‘dramatic’ scenes to come as he returns to soap this week

CORONATION Street star John Thomson has teased a dramatic storyline for his return to the cobbles.

The actor is returning for Helen Worth’s exit storyline after Sean Wilson was axed from the show.

Cold Feet and Fast Show star John, 55, is set to have a romance plotline with Sean’s character Martin Platt’s ex-wife.

He played children’s entertainer Jesse Chadwick from 2008 to 2010.

Helen Worth, 73, who plays Gail, is leaving after 50 years on the show.

Due to Sean’s sudden departure from the show, the writers had to conjure up a quick storyline.

Comedian John’s character is set to roll into town just as his ex Eileen Grimshaw returns to Weatherfield from Thailand.

She is shocked to see him, but soon discovers he wasn’t looking for her – instead he’s got his eye on her neighbour and nemesis Gail.

And the surprises keep coming when Gail and Jesse reveal that they met each other when Gail was travelling a few years ago and have kept in touch.

Jesse has heard about Gail’s granddaughter Bethany’s Turkish cosmetic surgery nightmare and, worried about his friend, decides to pay a visit.

“It’s a joy to be given stuff that’s sometimes dramatic and sometimes humorous, it’s really nice to get to play both sides.”

“The Platts are totally baffled by Jesse’s arrival, how do they react to him suddenly appearing and showing concern?

“So two like him and two hate him! Shona and Nick are prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, whereas David and Sarah are absolutely not, it’s just total mistrust from the start,” he added.

“There is the thinking that they need a decent man in their lives, but as soon as David lists all Gail’s previous it’s no wonder that there is a mistrust, because Gail’s sense of judgement over men has been very poor.

“Really Shona and Nick are very generous in their offer to wipe the slate clean and see what Jesse might be like given Gail’s history.

“Jesse’s going to have to work really hard to get David and Sarah on his side and see he is just a friend who cares about Gail because there’s a real sense of mistrust about his motives.”

Cast and crew were baffled by Sean’s leaving.

A spokeswoman said he “stepped down for personal reasons”.

A source said of John’s return: “It’s been an absolutely frantic, incredibly stressful past couple of weeks for Corrie bosses and scriptwriters.”

Speaking of thee quick turnaround, John said: “I was a bit shell shocked when I first came in because I’d forgotten the speed of the turnaround so it was an absolute baptism of fire.”

Speaking about being reunited with Helen, he said: “Helen and I are absolutely thrilled to be working together, everyone’s good company and there’s always fun to be had on set with the Platts which is great.”

On fishing tackle firm Korda’s YouTube channel, Man City’s Foden said he gets a “buzz” when he lands a catch.

He added: “This is me when I retire. A vlog for fishing.

“When I was around five, my old man would always take me and I have loved it ever since.

“I was just catching whatever really, the smaller fish, then the more times I did it I got into catching the bigger fish, the carp.

“I go to my local places and catch whatever, it’s the buzz, whatever fishing I am doing I enjoy.”

Foden told host Neil Spooner: “At the Euros training camp we had lakes on the golf course.

“I would get the rod out and catch a few carp.”

During the YouTube video, Foden caught a 28lb carp — short of his 39lb record.

Record 1,317 asylum seekers caught pretending to be children in bid to avoid being sent home

A RECORD number of asylum seekers were caught pretending to be children in the first half of this year.

A total of 1,317 migrants claiming to be minors at the border were judged to be adults brazenly plotting to gain extra protection from being sent home.

Killer Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai was 19 when he told Home Office officials he was 14 after sneaking in on a ferry in 2019[/caption]

It is the highest number for the first six months of any year on record and more than the combined totals for all of 2017, 2018 and 2019.

It is almost six times higher than the 224 rumbled by enforcement officials in all of 2014.

This year’s figure has included 283 from Afghanistan, 282 from Sudan, 236 from Vietnam and 140 from Eritrea.

A record 2,122 age disputes were launched amid fears of people- smugglers telling young adult men, often arriving without documents, to abuse the system by saying they are teen boys.

Unaccompanied minors asking for asylum are far less likely to have their claims rejected and deported.

Migrants who have used the ruse include Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, who was 19 when he told Home Office officials he was 14 after sneaking in on a ferry in December 2019.

Three years later, the Afghan fatally knifed aspiring Royal Marine Tom Roberts, 21, in Bournemouth town centre.

In 2010, Iraqi asylum seeker Rabar Hamad was studying for his GCSE exams when he was found to be 20 — four years older than he claimed.

The record figures come after Tory leadership frontrunner and former immigration minister Robert Jenrick said dozens of terror suspects had been among those to have claimed asylum after crossing in small boats.

He added: “These are people our security services identified as known quantities, threats to our communities, with links to Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

“And they waltzed right in.”

A Labour source said: “We inherited a completely failed immigration system.

“We’re getting to grips with the task in hand and bolstering border security.”

Charlotte Crosby finally opens up about Geordie Shore feud with Marnie Simpson admitting ‘things will never be the same’

CHARLOTTE Crosby has opened up about her bitter feud with Marnie Simpson after the pair’s explosive fallout last year.

The reality star, 34, quit the UK version of the show last series after a series of rows with her co-stars.

Charlotte said things have not been ‘resolved’ – but insisted she is ‘fine’ with that[/caption]

And now Charlotte has admitted that “things will never be the same” as she addressed her friendship with Marnie, 32.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Charlotte said: “I obviously still have my best friends from Geordie Shore and that would never change, we’d never argue anyways.

“But that isn’t even the last series of Geordie Shore because they’ve filmed a whole new series that comes out very soon I think.

“That was so long ago, like three years ago I think now – two and a half I think and honestly it’s something none of us think about and nothing was resolved and it never will be and that’s fine.

“There is a lot of cast on there that things will never be the same with – there was a lot that went down and a lot that I watched.

“I don’t think that I will ever be the same with a few of them.”

Charlotte, who announced she is pregnant with her second child with fiance Jake Ankers, said a comeback to the show is not on the cards.

“I left Geordie Shore and didn’t want to be involved in a show where you live and breathe drama, drunkenness and arguments. I just wasn’t about that anymore,” she told us.

“When I got offered to be the Boss, I thought it was a great chance to still be involved in what I love and always done, but not be fully involved.”

Charlotte admitted being part of Aussie Shore was “nostalgic” but said it hasn’t made her want to return to the UK version.

“It was very nostalgic, every single moment I would walk in the house and there would just be mess everywhere, so many good memories would come flooding back, it was so nostalgic the whole way through,” she explained.

Discussing if she’d return to the Paramount series, Charlotte insisted: “I’m very much NEVER thinking that again in my life.

“It’s the very last thing I’ve thought.”

She went on: “I would walk in [to Aussie Shore house] and I think you know what I cant wait to get back to the hotel.”

At the weekend, Charlotte announced that she is expecting her second baby.

Last year Charlotte decided to quit the Geordie series “for good”.

She was then seen storming out after a fiery row with co-star Marnie Simpson over a highchair and insisted she had quit for good.

Charlotte flew home early from filming Geordie Shore in Cyprus after a series of rows, and she and Marnie later unfollowed each other on social media.

Charlotte then broke down in tears on her Always On podcast, revealing she had quit the show ‘forever’ and would not return.

She said: “It just ended up going so terribly wrong. I don’t know why but the whole series, I later discovered, was a bit weird.

While Charlotte did not name any specific cast members, she explained: “There was a silly argument, over a high chair of all things, that escalated. And I just left.”

CAREER GOALS

Charlotte will be back on our screens very soon.

Streaming service Paramount+ has ordered a Geordie Shore spin-off starring former cast member Charlotte, who has been a face of the BBC since 2023.

The new series, Geordie Shore: Charlotte’s Having Another Baby, will follow her second pregnancy.

The show will see the the mum-of-one balance motherhood and her successful reality career.

This includes her latest role as the house boss in the upcoming Aussie Shore – which is the latest spin-off from the Jersey Shore brand.

The upcoming series will stream on Paramount+ next month.

Geordie Shore: Charlotte’s Having Another Baby will be produced in-house by Paramount subsidiary MTV Entertainment Studios.

It was ordered for Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios by vice president of original series and development, Iestyn Barker and Jaime Brannan.

Charlotte starred on/off in Geordie Shore between 2010 and 2016, and again between 2022 and 2024.

The star welcomed daughter Alba into the world in October 2022.

Charlotte and Jake got engaged in November 2023 after two years of dating.

Charlotte in Sunderland hit our screens in 2023.

Meanwhile The Charlotte Show aired on MTV in 2018.

She has gone on to appear in other programmes with them including Geordie Shore OGs and Geordie Shore Their Story.

‘No effort… going backwards… absolutely DISGUSTING’ – Man Utd blasted by pundits after horror Tottenham mauling

MANCHESTER UNITED’S horror display against Tottenham has been torn apart by pundits including three Manchester United legends.

Erik ten Hag is now favourite to become the first Premier League manager sacked this season following a dismal 3-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Ashley Young also heavily criticised his former club

Seven points from their opening six league matches equals unwated records set by David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Red Devils’ joint-worst start to a season since 1989.

And while Ten Hag has insisted he has given no thought to being sacked, the likes of Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Young and Jamie Redknapp were quick to slate the performance.

Ten Hag said: “I’m not thinking about being sacked, not at all. We all made the decision to stay together.

“Ownership, staff, players, myself. We made the decision from a clear review of what we have to do.

“We knew it would take some time. We are on the same page together.”

But Neville took no prisoners in his analysis of the match as he labelled Man Utd “shocking” and a “disgrace”.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “The first half was as bad as it gets.

“This is a shocking day, a sobering day. This is a really bad day for Ten Hag.

Jamie Redknapp insisted Ten Hag is going backwards

“Today has shocked me about how low they have gone.”

Earlier in the afternoon before Fernandes’ dismissal, he said: “That sums up Manchester United in the first half. They have been an absolute disgrace.

“It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under Ten Hag. And that is saying something. It is really bad.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp admitted having some sympathy for Ten Hag following the “embarrassing” display.

He said: “It gets to a point where you almost feel sorry for the manager as well. He looks completely out of his depth, he looks like he’s struggling to motivate his team.

“Man Utd and Ten Hag are going backwards. You can’t complain anymore, he’s got his back four in place, he’s got all the players at his disposal – there’s no excuses.

“They are rock bottom right now. I just don’t see where they can go from here. They’re as bad as I’ve seen a United side.

“It’s embarrassing. A club of this stature shouldn’t be producing performances like that.”

While fellow ex-Man Utd title winner Ashley Young added: “Man Utd didn’t give anything. There was no effort. There was no work rate.”

Five-time Premier League winner Rio Ferdinand took to his YouTube channel moments after full-time to rage about the display.

He said: “An absolute p*** poor performance, I’ve got to be honest.

“Powder-puff, embarrassing, no real idea it seemed, no real fight.

“Second half a little bit of a fight here and there but a distinct lack of quality.”
