Record 1,317 asylum seekers caught pretending to be children in bid to avoid being sent home

A RECORD number of asylum seekers were caught pretending to be children in the first half of this year.

A total of 1,317 migrants claiming to be minors at the border were judged to be adults brazenly plotting to gain extra protection from being sent home.

Killer Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai was 19 when he told Home Office officials he was 14 after sneaking in on a ferry in 2019[/caption]

It is the highest number for the first six months of any year on record and more than the combined totals for all of 2017, 2018 and 2019.

It is almost six times higher than the 224 rumbled by enforcement officials in all of 2014.

This year’s figure has included 283 from Afghanistan, 282 from Sudan, 236 from Vietnam and 140 from Eritrea.

A record 2,122 age disputes were launched amid fears of people- smugglers telling young adult men, often arriving without documents, to abuse the system by saying they are teen boys.

Unaccompanied minors asking for asylum are far less likely to have their claims rejected and deported.

Migrants who have used the ruse include Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, who was 19 when he told Home Office officials he was 14 after sneaking in on a ferry in December 2019.

Three years later, the Afghan fatally knifed aspiring Royal Marine Tom Roberts, 21, in Bournemouth town centre.

In 2010, Iraqi asylum seeker Rabar Hamad was studying for his GCSE exams when he was found to be 20 — four years older than he claimed.

The record figures come after Tory leadership frontrunner and former immigration minister Robert Jenrick said dozens of terror suspects had been among those to have claimed asylum after crossing in small boats.

He added: “These are people our security services identified as known quantities, threats to our communities, with links to Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

“And they waltzed right in.”

A Labour source said: “We inherited a completely failed immigration system.

“We’re getting to grips with the task in hand and bolstering border security.”

Charlotte Crosby finally opens up about Geordie Shore feud with Marnie Simpson admitting ‘things will never be the same’

CHARLOTTE Crosby has opened up about her bitter feud with Marnie Simpson after the pair’s explosive fallout last year.

The reality star, 34, quit the UK version of the show last series after a series of rows with her co-stars.

Charlotte said things have not been ‘resolved’ – but insisted she is ‘fine’ with that[/caption]

And now Charlotte has admitted that “things will never be the same” as she addressed her friendship with Marnie, 32.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Charlotte said: “I obviously still have my best friends from Geordie Shore and that would never change, we’d never argue anyways.

“But that isn’t even the last series of Geordie Shore because they’ve filmed a whole new series that comes out very soon I think.

“That was so long ago, like three years ago I think now – two and a half I think and honestly it’s something none of us think about and nothing was resolved and it never will be and that’s fine.

“There is a lot of cast on there that things will never be the same with – there was a lot that went down and a lot that I watched.

“I don’t think that I will ever be the same with a few of them.”

Charlotte, who announced she is pregnant with her second child with fiance Jake Ankers, said a comeback to the show is not on the cards.

“I left Geordie Shore and didn’t want to be involved in a show where you live and breathe drama, drunkenness and arguments. I just wasn’t about that anymore,” she told us.

“When I got offered to be the Boss, I thought it was a great chance to still be involved in what I love and always done, but not be fully involved.”

Charlotte admitted being part of Aussie Shore was “nostalgic” but said it hasn’t made her want to return to the UK version.

“It was very nostalgic, every single moment I would walk in the house and there would just be mess everywhere, so many good memories would come flooding back, it was so nostalgic the whole way through,” she explained.

Discussing if she’d return to the Paramount series, Charlotte insisted: “I’m very much NEVER thinking that again in my life.

“It’s the very last thing I’ve thought.”

She went on: “I would walk in [to Aussie Shore house] and I think you know what I cant wait to get back to the hotel.”

At the weekend, Charlotte announced that she is expecting her second baby.

Last year Charlotte decided to quit the Geordie series “for good”.

She was then seen storming out after a fiery row with co-star Marnie Simpson over a highchair and insisted she had quit for good.

Charlotte flew home early from filming Geordie Shore in Cyprus after a series of rows, and she and Marnie later unfollowed each other on social media.

Charlotte then broke down in tears on her Always On podcast, revealing she had quit the show ‘forever’ and would not return.

She said: “It just ended up going so terribly wrong. I don’t know why but the whole series, I later discovered, was a bit weird.

While Charlotte did not name any specific cast members, she explained: “There was a silly argument, over a high chair of all things, that escalated. And I just left.”

CAREER GOALS

Charlotte will be back on our screens very soon.

Streaming service Paramount+ has ordered a Geordie Shore spin-off starring former cast member Charlotte, who has been a face of the BBC since 2023.

The new series, Geordie Shore: Charlotte’s Having Another Baby, will follow her second pregnancy.

The show will see the the mum-of-one balance motherhood and her successful reality career.

This includes her latest role as the house boss in the upcoming Aussie Shore – which is the latest spin-off from the Jersey Shore brand.

The upcoming series will stream on Paramount+ next month.

Geordie Shore: Charlotte’s Having Another Baby will be produced in-house by Paramount subsidiary MTV Entertainment Studios.

It was ordered for Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios by vice president of original series and development, Iestyn Barker and Jaime Brannan.

Charlotte starred on/off in Geordie Shore between 2010 and 2016, and again between 2022 and 2024.

The star welcomed daughter Alba into the world in October 2022.

Charlotte and Jake got engaged in November 2023 after two years of dating.

Charlotte in Sunderland hit our screens in 2023.

Meanwhile The Charlotte Show aired on MTV in 2018.

She has gone on to appear in other programmes with them including Geordie Shore OGs and Geordie Shore Their Story.

Coronation Street’s John Thomson teases ‘dramatic’ scenes to come as he returns to soap this week

CORONATION Street star John Thomson has teased a dramatic storyline for his return to the cobbles.

The actor is returning for Helen Worth’s exit storyline after Sean Wilson was axed from the show.

Cold Feet and Fast Show star John, 55, is set to have a romance plotline with Sean’s character Martin Platt’s ex-wife.

He played children’s entertainer Jesse Chadwick from 2008 to 2010.

Helen Worth, 73, who plays Gail, is leaving after 50 years on the show.

Due to Sean’s sudden departure from the show, the writers had to conjure up a quick storyline.

Comedian John’s character is set to roll into town just as his ex Eileen Grimshaw returns to Weatherfield from Thailand.

She is shocked to see him, but soon discovers he wasn’t looking for her – instead he’s got his eye on her neighbour and nemesis Gail.

And the surprises keep coming when Gail and Jesse reveal that they met each other when Gail was travelling a few years ago and have kept in touch.

Jesse has heard about Gail’s granddaughter Bethany’s Turkish cosmetic surgery nightmare and, worried about his friend, decides to pay a visit.

“It’s a joy to be given stuff that’s sometimes dramatic and sometimes humorous, it’s really nice to get to play both sides.”

“The Platts are totally baffled by Jesse’s arrival, how do they react to him suddenly appearing and showing concern?

“So two like him and two hate him! Shona and Nick are prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, whereas David and Sarah are absolutely not, it’s just total mistrust from the start,” he added.

“There is the thinking that they need a decent man in their lives, but as soon as David lists all Gail’s previous it’s no wonder that there is a mistrust, because Gail’s sense of judgement over men has been very poor.

“Really Shona and Nick are very generous in their offer to wipe the slate clean and see what Jesse might be like given Gail’s history.

“Jesse’s going to have to work really hard to get David and Sarah on his side and see he is just a friend who cares about Gail because there’s a real sense of mistrust about his motives.”

Cast and crew were baffled by Sean’s leaving.

A spokeswoman said he “stepped down for personal reasons”.

A source said of John’s return: “It’s been an absolutely frantic, incredibly stressful past couple of weeks for Corrie bosses and scriptwriters.”

Speaking of thee quick turnaround, John said: “I was a bit shell shocked when I first came in because I’d forgotten the speed of the turnaround so it was an absolute baptism of fire.”

Speaking about being reunited with Helen, he said: “Helen and I are absolutely thrilled to be working together, everyone’s good company and there’s always fun to be had on set with the Platts which is great.”

‘No effort… going backwards… absolutely DISGUSTING’ – Man Utd blasted by pundits after horror Tottenham mauling

MANCHESTER UNITED’S horror display against Tottenham has been torn apart by pundits including three Manchester United legends.

Erik ten Hag is now favourite to become the first Premier League manager sacked this season following a dismal 3-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Gary Neville did not mince his words when assessing the performance

Ashley Young also heavily criticised his former club

Seven points from their opening six league matches equals unwated records set by David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Red Devils’ joint-worst start to a season since 1989.

And while Ten Hag has insisted he has given no thought to being sacked, the likes of Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Young and Jamie Redknapp were quick to slate the performance.

Ten Hag said: “I’m not thinking about being sacked, not at all. We all made the decision to stay together.

“Ownership, staff, players, myself. We made the decision from a clear review of what we have to do.

“We knew it would take some time. We are on the same page together.”

But Neville took no prisoners in his analysis of the match as he labelled Man Utd “shocking” and a “disgrace”.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “The first half was as bad as it gets.

“This is a shocking day, a sobering day. This is a really bad day for Ten Hag.

Jamie Redknapp insisted Ten Hag is going backwards

“Today has shocked me about how low they have gone.”

Earlier in the afternoon before Fernandes’ dismissal, he said: “That sums up Manchester United in the first half. They have been an absolute disgrace.

“It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under Ten Hag. And that is saying something. It is really bad.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp admitted having some sympathy for Ten Hag following the “embarrassing” display.

He said: “It gets to a point where you almost feel sorry for the manager as well. He looks completely out of his depth, he looks like he’s struggling to motivate his team.

“Man Utd and Ten Hag are going backwards. You can’t complain anymore, he’s got his back four in place, he’s got all the players at his disposal – there’s no excuses.

“They are rock bottom right now. I just don’t see where they can go from here. They’re as bad as I’ve seen a United side.

“It’s embarrassing. A club of this stature shouldn’t be producing performances like that.”

While fellow ex-Man Utd title winner Ashley Young added: “Man Utd didn’t give anything. There was no effort. There was no work rate.”

Five-time Premier League winner Rio Ferdinand took to his YouTube channel moments after full-time to rage about the display.

He said: “An absolute p*** poor performance, I’ve got to be honest.

“Powder-puff, embarrassing, no real idea it seemed, no real fight.

“Second half a little bit of a fight here and there but a distinct lack of quality.”

Common beach item you should never bring back from your holidays – or risk getting stopped at the airport

WHILE it may be tempting to bring one seemingly common item back to the UK from your holidays, it could land you in serious trouble.

Conch shells are large, pinkish, spiral-shaped shells – and packing them in your luggage could get stopped in UK and international airports.

Conch are an endangered species[/caption]

They can be found on beaches in the Caribbean and US[/caption]

They are pink in colour and have a spiral shape[/caption]

The shells are famous for making a noise similar to the ocean when you put your ear to them – and can be found in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Florida and the US Virgin Islands.

The conch themselves are similar in taste to clams and often sold in markets and shops for tourists and locals to enjoy.

However, many people may be unaware that conch are in fact an endangered species.

As a result, you would need a permit to import a conch shell into the UK – or risk being stopped at customs.

There are further regulations abroad to stop conch – and their shells – being removed from their country of origin.

In Florida, for example, it is illegal to possess a conch shell with a living conch inside.

It is also illegal to possess one if it has an off-centre hole larger than a sixteenth of an inch in diameter through its spire – as this indicates a conch has been killed, mutilated or removed from its shell.

Failure to comply with these rules could result in jail time.

In the Caribbean, a permit is required to export any conch shell – even if it is part of a souvenir such as an item of jewellery.

In December 2021, Caribbean authorities seized five conch shells from a pair of travellers – among 500 other illegally exported items.

Conch are endangered because they have been overfished for many years, due to their status as a delicacy.

Many conch are also harvested while they are still too young to have reproduced.

The animal is now protected under an international treaty called CITES – the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

This protects endangered species against over-exploitation by regulating international trade.

What else can't you bring into the UK?

Some items will be seized by customs if travellers attempt to bring them into the UK. These include:

  • Controlled drugs
  • Offensive weapons, for example flick knives
  • Self-defence sprays, for example pepper spray and CS gas
  • Endangered animal and plant species
  • Rough diamonds
  • Indecent and obscene materials, such as books, magazines, films and DVDs
  • Personal imports of meat and dairy products from most non-EU countries

Other items are restricted and require a special licence to bring them into the UK. These include:

  • Firearms
  • Explosives
  • Ammunition
  • Some food and plant products

Always check the government website if you’re unsure.

Mummy and me styles aren’t for everyone, but these adorable boots are subtle enough that you can match with your mini me and still look stylish.

The new-in shoes were recently shared on TikTok by the budget-friendly brand, and fashionistas are loving them.

In the viral clip, one shop assistant showed off the women’s boots, then held up the mini versions for toddlers – and we can’t get over how cute they are.

There are a few different styles you can get your hands on, including the black Faux Fur Collar boots for just £9.

There’s also the Classic Suede Boots, £8, which come in both black and brown and are sure to keep your feet cosy during the current cold spell.

The product description on Primark‘s website reads: “A snuggly staple for chilly autumn days, our faux suede boots are the epitome of stylish comfort!

“Reaching just above the ankle, the sleek design features a rounded toe and a sturdy block sole for all-day wearing.

“Ideal for pairing with jeans, skirts, or your favourite winter dresses, these boots are a must-have for every cosy closet!”

The kid’s boots are also £8, but come with the cute addition of a bow on the back – what’s not to love?

You’ll have to be quick if you want to twin with your little one though, the boots are sure to sell out fast.

One person commented on the viral vide: “Not a want but a need.”

“These are sooo cute,” a second wrote.

And another said: “Omg love them!!”

The stylish boots aren’t the only reason to plan a trip to Primark though.

Shoppers are also obsessing over a stylish trench coat that’s perfect for autumn, and it looks just like the classic Burberry one.

The trench is from The Edit collection and is priced at £45, which might seem high for Primark, but compared to £1,890 you’d be forking out for the Burberry version, it’s not too bad at all.

With a trendy he oversized and belt so you can cinch in the waist, the coat is a must-have for autumn and winter.

The product description of the coat online suggests laying it over your “most casual outfits for an instantly elevated look, or dress it up with a mini dress and knee boots.

“Perfect for creating the capsule wardrobe of your dreams, every piece in The Edit range is designed to transcend style and season!

“This item has an oversized silhouette, we recommend you size down depending on your desired fit.”

Primark's best buys for Autumn

Heading into Primark soon? Keep an eye out for these items.

Here, Fabulous fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend reveals her top 6 buys from Primark this Autumn.

Coat, £60
I know what you’re thinking, ‘£60 for Primark?’ Yes it’s a higher price tag than we’re used to from Primark but its worth every penny.
It’s from their Edit range which is more premium than the rest of their collection and it’s made to last.
It’s a mixed wool blend which is durable and warm, plus its a timeless straight silhouette which is slightly oversized and will last you not only this season but for many after.

Bag, £16
Big bags are back… In a big way, finally.
This tote screams luxury with its croc effect and burnt orange colour, plus its great for shoving in your laptop, lunch, spare shoes, purse – essentially everything you need for the day – all for £16.

Jacket, £32
Field jackets are on the backs of celebrities and catwalk models this season with designer brands Barbour, Burberry and Bottega all championing the utilitarian look.
They’re great for chucking over jeans or contrasting with a floral or floaty dress and are the perfect transitional jacket.

Dress, £18,
You may have seen, heard and read that leopard print isn’t going anywhere for autumn, so to encapsulate the trend this dress is a must.
Sleeves? Check. Midi length? Check. Ultra flattering square neck? Check. It’s got it all.
Pair with black knee high boots or your favourite trainers for the day and dress up with gold heels and accessories for the evening.

Jeans, £16
Barrel, balloon, horseshoe – whatever you want to call them, they are the must have trouser shape of this season.
I’ve tried Primarks pair and they fit like a dream, are comfortable and flattering.
So if you think you have nothing that hits the trend mark, swapping your go-to denim for this shape will bring you bang up to date.

Boots, £24
It’s boot season and instead of feeling like you need to buy one in every colour, length, height – its best to stick to a pair that you can wear with the majority of your wardrobe.
My jaw almost hit the floor when I saw that this black, knee-high, block heel with flat point and side zip (so there’s no tug of war to get them off at the end of the day) was only £24.
If you buy one thing this season, it should be these.
