I get paid for living in a caravan – my pitch is free and I get my electricity, water and WiFi for nothing too

A WOMAN has revealed that she lives in a caravan and gets paid for it.

Katie, who is from the UK and is known online as ‘The Caravan Mum’, confessed that not only does she get her pitch for free, but she also gets her electricity, water and WiFi for nothing too.

The mother, who is based in West Wales and previously revealed that she hates the school holidays on a caravan park, took to social media to open up on her lifestyle, leaving many open-mouthed.

Posting online, she said: “If you want to be able to live on a pitch for free whilst actually generating income – you don’t have to run a business, you don’t have to have a remote job, you can become a Campsite Warden.

“Basically, this is the person who is the security, who is the cleaner, who is the administrator, you sort of do a whole tangent of things.

“You are living on the site and you do all of the stuff that a site owner would do, but you get paid for that.

“And you’re getting your pitch for free, you’re getting your electric for free, you’re getting your water for free.

“You generally get WiFi for free, depending on whether it’s actually on the site or not, so that’s a lot of bills that are included, and you’re getting an income for that as well.”

Katie explained that despite this, the income is “not very good” and is generally minimum wage.

But regardless of this, Katie raved about the lifestyle and shared that although the money isn’t great, it’s worth it because of everything that you get included.

Not only this, but she also raved about the “transferable skills” involved with the job too.

Katie explained that campsite warden jobs are generally given to retired people or those who are semi-retired.

As well as this, she shared that a lot of these jobs are also available for couples too.

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @thecaravanfamily, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as people flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the unique job.

I’d love that job

TikTok user

One person said: “I would love that.”

Another added: “I want to do this.”

A third commented: “I’d love that job and can bring plumbing and electrical skills too.”

How much does it cost to live in a caravan?

LIVING in a caravan can be an economical and flexible lifestyle choice in the UK. Here's a breakdown of potential costs:

Initial Costs

  • Caravan Purchase: £8,000 – £40,000 (depending on size, age, and condition)
  • Caravan Insurance: £200 – £800 per year

Ongoing Monthly Costs

  • Pitch Fees: £150 – £600 (varies by location and facilities)
  • Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water): £40 – £120
  • Maintenance and Repairs: £20 – £80
  • Internet and TV: £20 – £50
  • Gas for Heating/Cooking: £15 – £40

Other Potential Costs

  • Waste Disposal Fees: £8 – £25
  • Transport Costs (if moving locations): Variable, depending on distance
  • Optional Add-ons (Awning, Solar Panels, etc.): £400 – £1,600 (one-time)

Sample Monthly Budget

  • Pitch Fees: £400
  • Utilities: £80
  • Maintenance and Repairs: £40
  • Internet and TV: £40
  • Gas for Heating/Cooking: £25
  • Total: £585

Annual Estimated Cost

  • Total Monthly Costs: £585 x 12 = £7,020
  • Insurance: £500
  • Maintenance and Repairs: £480
  • Total Annual Cost: £8,000

Tips to Save

  • Off-Peak Pitch Fees: Look for lower rates during off-peak seasons.
  • DIY Maintenance: Handle minor repairs yourself.
  • Energy Efficiency: Invest in solar panels to reduce utility costs.

While initial setup costs can be significant, ongoing expenses for living in a caravan can be relatively low, making it a viable option for those seeking an affordable and mobile lifestyle in the UK.

Meanwhile, many were keen to know more about the job, as one user asked: “If you do these jobs can you live full time?”

In response, Katie explained: “Yes you’ll be there permanently – however they do tend to be temp contracts/seasonal contracts and you will still need a separate residential address for payslips.”

At the same time, someone else questioned: “Where can I do that?”

To this, Katie confirmed: “UK Campsites is just one of them, just put campsite wardens into any search engine!”

I married a pot-bellied, balding man for his money, not love – I was a trad wife long before it was a TikTok trend

WALKING down the aisle, I knew deep in my heart I wasn’t marrying for love, but for money.

I cared for Andrew*, but it was his wealth I was passionate about, and the lifestyle it gave me, not him.

I married a pot-bellied, balding man for his money, not love – when he curbed my spending, I knew it was over

The Perfect Couple features a toxic family’s battle for inheritance
Netflix

Seven years on from that day, I’m a forty one year old divorcee, having learned the painful way that a truly happy relationship can never be built on another person’s bank balance.

Watching The Perfect Couple on Netflix this month, and the toxicity that is brewed when money is the motivating factor in a marriage, I felt relief to no longer be mired in a dynamic like that.

I grew up the only child of a single mother, and although we weren’t ‘poor’, Mum worked incredibly hard as a secretary just so we could get by. I suppose that’s where my craving to be well off came from. When you grow up without money, it’s easy to believe it’s the key to a happier life.

In 2015, when I was thirty-two, I met Andrew*.

I was working as an EA at a bank and he was a client of my boss.

Ten years older than me, balding and with a bit of a belly, I wasn’t physically attracted to him, but he was charming, funny and when I looked at his files, I was stunned at how well off he was despite only being in his early forties.

He’d taken over his family’s successful property development business, as well as investing in a portfolio of rental flats.

He’d come in for meetings – his Porsche parked outside, wearing a well-cut suit and a designer watch – and we’d flirt, until one day he asked me out.

On our second date, he presented me with a Chloe handbag and on our month anniversary he arranged a surprise weekend away to New York.

Money was no object to him, and I was enthralled. I’d never experienced a lifestyle like this, and although he liked to talk about himself a lot, and our sex life wasn’t that satisfying, I told myself I didn’t care, he was rich, generous and wanted to be with me.

Within six months I’d moved into his luxury apartment, and on holiday in Dubai for our one year anniversary, he proposed with an enormous diamond ring.

He paid for our wedding in summer 2017 and whatever I wanted – from the celebrity florist to the fireworks display at the 5* venue, and my gown that cost thousands of pounds – I had it. I was like a kid in a candy shop, with his credit card.

I feel ashamed now I exchanged vows with Andrew knowing I wasn’t in love with him, but I was blinded by the excitement of being rich, and greedy for the life he could give me.

For the first few years, things were good.

I gave up work within a year of us marrying – I hated my job and Andrew insisted he earned more than enough to support us.

I suppose I was a ‘trad wife’ long before it was a TikTok trend.

And I threw myself into supervising the renovations of a second home we – Andrew – had bought in the countryside, along with going to the gym, shopping and preparing meals for him. Gifts of expensive jewellery, ski holidays and designer clothes became my norm.

Friends would joke I’d become like one of ITV’s Rich Housewives, but I told myself they were just jealous, having married guys with ordinary jobs and modest bank balances. Sure, they were madly in love, but I had a lifestyle to die for.

There were days I felt aimless, bored and a bit embarrassed about being a ‘kept woman’ in my thirties, but I pushed those feelings aside.

It was the pandemic that would expose the shaky foundations my marriage was built on.

'WELFARE QUEEN'

I bought horse with taxpayers’ cash & used benefits to get designer vagina

Both stuck at home all day, with no lux holidays, shopping trips or spa breaks to enjoy, we only had each other’s company, and I began to realise that without all the distractions and excitement of his wealth, a lot of the time Andrew bored and irritated me.

Also, with his business interests under pressure because of the impact of lockdown, for the first time ever, he began to question items on the credit card bill or the cost of things I had delivered to the house.

I felt humiliated when he told me my spending was out of control, and that I needed to rein it in and run big purchases past him. During one row, he said it was his money and I should be more grateful to him than I was.

It hit me he didn’t see me as his equal, because I contributed nothing. He had the money, and so he had the power in our relationship, and that was never going to change.

Once those cracks had appeared, I couldn’t ignore them or keep papering over them with his money.

Even when life began to return to normal, and he whisked us away to Portugal and insisted everything was fine now financially, I should just carry on as normal, the voice in my head kept growing louder that I’d made a mistake.

In late 2021, I told Andrew I’d fallen for his wealth, and I had let him believe I loved him.

I’d married for the wrong reasons, I didn’t love this man and it was never going to be a marriage of equals.

Even if I went back to work, financially there would always be a huge imbalance and having experienced that being used against me emotionally in the pandemic, I knew it would happen again.

In late 2021, I told Andrew I was leaving him. I admitted I’d fallen for his wealth, and the fault lay with me for letting him believe I loved him.

He was shocked, devastated, angry and begged me to reconsider, but I told him it was the best thing for both of us.

We divorced in 2022 and all I asked for was the house in the countryside in the divorce settlement, so I had somewhere to live, although I would’ve been entitled to more. I wanted to start afresh, away from his money.

I went back to work as an EA and it felt good to be financially independent again, and today I live a very ordinary life, without all the expensive trappings I had during my marriage. Do I miss them? Sometimes. But am I happier? Definitely.

I’d love to meet someone else but it’s not easy dating as a divorcee, and I can hardly explain to guys that I married for money not love, and that’s why it all fell apart.

Perhaps one day I’ll meet someone and when I do, I have learned to be led by my heart, and not his bank balance.

Why you should never marry an older man

Janet, 51, regrets settling down with older husband, John, 76.

In an exclusive interview, she reveals why.

“My 76-year-old husband John rotting in his stained armchair, picking the crumbs of a digestive from his wobbling dentures.

This old man was once the love of my life. Now he feeds on my energy and sucks out my soul.

At 51 years old, I’m in the prime of my life. But the attraction to my husband has well and truly disappeared, along with his youthful good looks.

He’s so old now I have to remind him to take his cocktail of medication and pack enough faded Y-fronts for a weekend trip. What happened to my well-groomed gentleman — and who is this crusty old man who’s taken his place?

He never asks how I’m feeling or if I’ve had a good day.

But he will blab on in great detail about how awful the weather is — when he doesn’t leave the house for weeks at a time.

He hates the ’80s pop music I play in the kitchen and calls it a “racket”.

He only watches black-and-white movies and has no idea what Traitors is.

Then there’s his health. From countless hospital letters about blood pressure and prostrate checks

to his rattling pockets full of heart tablets — and, of course, his treasured bus pass — it’s a stark reminder of my husband’s ageing body.

I’m sick of having to do every little thing for him — it gives me the ick having to mother and fuss over an elderly man.

If you think an older man with money is going to take care of you, think again. The tables turn and suddenly, you are a full-time nurse.”

Katie Price accused of photoshopping latest snap as fans spot major issue with her legs

KATIE Price has been accused of photoshopping her latest snap after fans spotted a major issue with her legs.

Page 3 legend Katie, 46, shared a glam shot to Instagram from her latest holiday abroad yesterday – despite her double bankruptcy.

The former glamour model put on a bold display in an orange tie-dye hoodie and shorts co-ord, featuring a ‘Love’ slogan.

She posed with her hands in its pocket, writing in her caption: “Holiday vibes @valentinasboutiquex outfit.”

But fans were left scratching their heads over the picture, sharing their confusion in the comments section.

One asked: “What is going on with the legs?” while another claimed: “Right leg has been edited.”

Someone else questioned: “What’s happened to your leg..,” with a third saying: “oh yeah wtf must be edited.”

A fourth added: “The editing on this [laughing emojis] the legs the eyes …..,” as one more wrote: “Are you wearing a prosthetic leg?”

Despite her recent financial troubles, Katie whisked her son Harvey, 22, and boyfriend JJ Slater, 32, off for a sunsoaked getaway at a resort over the weekend.

Posting on Instagram, Katie shared a day by the poolside with Harvey, who was seen happily playing with Peppa Pig dolls in the water.

Harvey has Prader-Willi syndrome, is partially blind and is on the autistic spectrum, and is devoted on by his mum.

In videos from their time in the sunshine, Harvey was seen playing with the Peppa Pig dolls and making them kiss.

Katie noted Harvey “makes her laugh” with another snap showing him giving his mum the thumbs up.

After lounging by the poolside, the model later joined Harvey in the water, planting a kiss on her son’s lips with the sweet caption: “Unconditional Love”.

The time away is one of several trips Katie has planned for her family.

Despite a string of money problems, Katie has shared her plans to take all of her five children to Thailand in the new year.

She has not disclosed where the family are currently on holiday, opting to have some private time with Harvey and JJ.

However, they were spotted at the airport on Saturday, with JJ and Katie taking turns to push Harvey in a wheelchair.

Her last big trip abroad was to Turkey for a string of new cosmetic surgeries including a new facelift.

But in recent weeks, fans of the star have been quick to share their concern about the eye area of Katie’s new face.

Following the operation, she documented her recovery with a series of photographs, including some gruesome shots of her looking battered and bruised.

Katie also admitted to suffering with her eyesight shortly after the invasive procedure.

The ex model has spent over 500k on cosmetic surgery over the years and she was already back having another procedure earlier this month.

Boom in black-market sale of fake cigarettes could be funding organised crime gangs

A SPIKE in black-market sales of fake cigarettes could be funding organised crime gangs.

New stats revealed 11 out of 12 regions are reporting a boom in the illicit trade across the past year, with Scotland seeing a rise of more than 20 per cent.

Former Scotland Yard detective, Will O’Reilly, revealed undercover operatives had visited 60 retailers in the capital[/caption]

While Northern Ireland and the South East of England had seen rises of 15.9 per cent and 14.5 per cent respectively.

The report also found the UK is ranked third out of 38 countries when it comes to the amount of illegal tobacco products – with one in four smoked said to be contraband.

While London has seen a surge of 109 per cent since 2020, according to the data commissioned by Philip Morris International via KPMG.

Further data surveying 200 London shop owners revealed a third are convinced sales of such products are fuelling dangerous and organised crime.

The poll revealed youth tobacco and vape use, violent crime, and money laundering linked to the illicit trade are higher in London’s poorest communities.

And the cost-of-living crisis is seen as a contributing factor, with half of all shopkeepers citing economic hardship and the demand for cheaper products as drivers of illicit use.

Former Scotland Yard detective, Will O’Reilly, revealed undercover operatives had visited 60 retailers in the capital and more than half were openly selling harmful and unregulated smoking products.

Will O’Reilly said: “This is a pattern I’ve observed across the country, with stores selling dangerous illicit cigarettes and vapes.

“Eliminating the illegal cigarette market alone could strip organised crime of profits equivalent to funding over 115,000 new police officers.”

It also emerged 52 per cent of retailers polled fear higher taxes on legal products might boost the illicit market.

Similarly, 44 per cent are concerned restrictive regulations on legitimate alternatives could inadvertently increase such activity.

Respondents also showed their commitment to supporting anti-illicit product efforts by purchasing only from legitimate sources and reporting illegal activities.

Despite this, 40 per cent doubt illicit use will drop by 2030, England’s smoke-free goal.

Seven in 10 would also like to see stronger law enforcement and three quarters would back harsher penalties for rule breakers.

While 71 per cent want to see improved access to legitimate, affordable smoke-free alternatives like e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

Duncan Cunningham, from Philip Morris Limited (PML), added: “The illicit tobacco and vape trade poses a direct and serious threat to public health, preying on deprived communities and driving youth uptake.

“With the UK already among Europe’s largest illicit cigarette markets, we must strike a careful balance: safeguarding people, especially youth, from harmful illicit products, while ensuring adult smokers have access to smoke-free alternatives.

“To truly achieve a smoke-free future, we must protect future generations and support the 6.4 million adult smokers in the UK by maintaining access to regulated alternatives that have already helped millions quit cigarettes.”

Smoking vs. vaping

VAPING has been touted as an effective tool to help people quit smoking.

Though vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking, the habit isn’t completely harmless and comes with its own set of risks.

The NHS only recommends it for adult smokers, to support quitting smoking.

GP and author Dr Philippa Kaye explained to The Sun that the differences between vaping and smoking – and whether one is better than the other – is “complicated”.

“In a nutshell, vaping is better than smoking, but breathing air is better than vaping at all.”

Vaping exposes users to far fewer toxins – and at lower levels – than smoking cigarettes.

Switching to vaping significantly reduces your exposure to toxins that can cause cancer, lung disease, and diseases of the heart and circulation like heart attack and stroke.

These diseases are not caused by nicotine, which is relatively harmless to health. But research has still linked vaping to a higher risk of failure and lung disease.

Health risks of cigarettes

  • Smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to develop heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer
  • Smokers are at greater risk for diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels
  • Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging your airways and the small air sacs
  • Smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in your body
  • It affects overall health too, such as your mouth, eyes, immune system and fertility

Health risks of vaping

  • They can cause side effects such as throat and mouth irritation, headache, cough and feeling sick
  • They could lead to tooth decay
  • They could damage heart health
  • They could cause lung disease
  • They could slow brain development

I was drowning in £12.5k debt but cleared it in a year – I got PAID to go shopping & flogged ‘mystery boxes’ on Vinted

365 DAYS – that’s all it took for one cash-savvy mum to pay off her monster £12.5k debt, and it was all thanks to very easy but clever side hustles.

Like many money-strapped Brits, Lisa Danielle (@sidehustlesister) was struggling to make ends meet especially as she also had a huge debt worth close to £13,000.

The money-smart woman, who works in internal communications, also revealed the side hustles she wouldn’t recommend bothering with
Supplied

After watching videos on social media shared by others who made cash from their jobs ‘on the side’ – aka side hustles – the 43-year-old decided to take the leap.

And they were so remarkably quick and easy to latch onto, mum-of-three Lisa managed to clear her sizeable debt racked up through loans, within a year.

From flogging mystery boxes to earning cash in return for family days out as well as trips to the supermarket, she even made enough to treat herself to a trip of a lifetime.

She said: ”It really does add up, so it’s all about consistency.”

The more Lisa, from Manchester looked into side hustles the more she bombarded with videos.

Others claimed they’d raked in a fortune in various ways – from creating random products to writing product reviews.

However, this was an alien world to Lisa who had to clear more than £5.4k in tuition fees, as well as an additional £6.8k for a car loan.

”I’ve always paid my student loan on time but with the interest it was still hanging around,” said Lisa whose ‘day’ job is in internal communication.

”It just felt like it was about time that I got rid of it – it’s more than half of my life ago that I graduated from university,” she explained.

”I just really wanted to be debt-free, it just felt like it was the right time.”

The start of the debt-free journey

It was in last year that Lisa landed on money-making accounts on TikTok – but none seemed feasible.

”One of them was a lady who was trying to make £100,000 in a year and the other one was a chap who was trying to turn £20 into £200,000,” said Lisa.

”I thought it was amazing – but it just seemed so far out of reach for me.

”So that’s when I focused on clearing my £12.5k worth of debt instead.”

After sharing her first video online, Lisa – who now boasts close to 60k followers on TikTok and goes by the name the Side Hustle Sister – received heaps of suggestions about how to make money.

Make money from pre-loved gear

Lisa became hooked and to kickstart the debt-clearing challenge she turned to sites like Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, as well as eBay where she sold several pre-loved items she’d found at home.

Next, she bought mystery boxes online and sold things she didn’t want.

Some of the best-known survey sites to try as a side hustle

  • i-Say
  • Swagbucks
  • Crowdology
  • Curious Cat
  • Google Opinion Rewards
  • PopulusLive

Side hustle that ANYONE can do

Then she turned to survey sites, including Attapol and Survey Pop, where she was paid to share her opinion which brought in between £100 and £200 extra cash a month.

”I still do surveys. They’re not for everyone – you’re definitely not going to be a millionaire by doing them,” said Lisa who completed them once her children were asleep.

”But it’s something that absolutely anyone can do. I’d put the TV on and then I’d just sit and complete a few,” she added.

”I’ve had so many messages from people saying how they didn’t have dinner money for the kids so they filled in a few surveys.”

Secret shopper

The money-smart mum then moved into secret shopping – a ”fun” way to rake in some extra cash.

It involves going into a shop and taking a photo of a particular aisle or fridge.

Lisa said: “I get asked to comment on specifics like stock levels or if I think something is missing,

“The options are practically endless, especially as there’s so many services around.”

Lisa earned between £3 to £20 from each store visit and also did the same at local leisure centres and pubs – where she also got to enjoy a completely free meal while she was there.

”I’ve also taken the whole family bowling on the secret shop,” she recalls.

“I was once given a budget of £60 to go bowling, play crazy golf and get something to eat in exchange for my opinions.”

Do I need to pay tax on my side hustle income?

MANY people feeling strapped for cash are boosting their bank balance with a side hustle.

The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to earn some additional income – but you need to know the rules.

When you’re employed the company you work for takes the tax from your earnings and pays HMRC so you don’t have to.

But anyone earning extra cash, for example from selling things online or dog walking, may have to do it themselves.

Stephen Moor, head of employment at law firm Ashfords, said: “Caution should be taken if you’re earning an additional income, as this is likely to be taxable.

“The side hustle could be treated as taxable trading income, which can include providing services or selling products.”

You can make a gross income of up to £1,000 a year tax-free via the trading allowance, but over this and you’ll usually need to pay tax.

Stephen added: “You need to register for a self-assessment at HMRC to ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax.

“The applicable tax bands and the amount of tax you need to pay will depend on your income.”

If you fail to file a tax return you could end up with a surprise bill from HMRC later on asking you to pay the tax you owe – plus extra fees on top.

Go digital

As well as raking in cash via TikTok Shop and getting paid for her content on the huge platform, Lisa also boosts her bank balance selling digital products such as music, e-books, and online courses.

”I’ve just launched a masterclass where I’ve got 50 students and I’m teaching them how to create digital products – and the success has been absolutely fantastic,” she revealed.

”I’ve got people who work in HR, I’ve got people who want to get out of teaching, I’ve got people with children with additional needs.

”The spectrum of those involved is absolutely fantastic.”

What proved to be a total waste of time

Although several side hustles proved to be lucrative, some others didn’t go to plan including Printing on Demand (POD)

It involves designing products, like a travel guide or a meal prep plan, and a POD partner prints and ships to customers on the seller’s behalf but it’s competitive.

Lisa said: “It’s easy for anyone to get started, and you don’t have to invest a lot of money into building your business – however, it’s worth remembering it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme.”

Lisa, who runs The Side Hustle Sisterhood page on Facebook and treated herself to a trip to New York exactly a year after clearing her debts added: “My most important tip when it comes to side hustles is consider what you do and what you enjoy – and don’t be disheartened when a survey pays you only a few pennies.

”It really does add up, so it’s all about consistency.”
