Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star Lassana Diarra’s legal action against Fifa risks ‘anarchy’ and changing transfers forever

FORMER Premier League midfielder Lassana Diarra will learn the outcome of his legal battle with FIFA this week.

The 39-year-old’s case stems from his time with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow and a dispute over wages.

The case stemmed from his time with Lokomotiv Moscow[/caption]

In the summer of 2014, Diarra fell out with then-Lokomotiv manager Leonid Kuchuk.

Club officials subsequently tried reducing his salary, suggesting it was justified due to his drop in performance.

The Frenchman refused to accept the pay cut and eventually stopped attending training.

Lokomotiv terminated his contract as a result and took the matter to FIFA.

The football governing body banned Diarra before the Court of Aarbitration for Sport ordered him to pay €10.5million plus interest in compensation.

Belgian club Royal Charleroi then made him an offer, subject to a guarantee they would not have to pay any additional compensation sought by Lokomotiv.

But when they did not receive those guarantees, they withdrew the proposal.

Diarra’s legal team argue this amounted to a restriction of trade and a breach of European labour law because Diarra was prevented from engaging in his profession.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

FIFA refused to issue the international transfer certificate (ITC) which Charleroi needed to register him.

Diarra claims he played no role in talks between Lokomotiv and Anzhi Makhachkala, his former club, but still found himself blocked from resuming his career after being denied his ITC.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will now determine whether FIFA’s refusal to issue the ITC was lawful or not.

If it is not deemed lawful, FIFA may have to overhaul the whole ITC process.

The football governing body could lose authority in the transfer market as a result, with clubs and players taking more control.

Belgian sports law experts and academics Robby Houben, Oliver Budzinski and Melchior Wathelet suggested: “The likely practical outcome of Diarra will be that the transfer system in football, as we know it, will fall.”

The Guardian also claim it could lead to “anarchy”.

Diarra’s legal case is set to be concluded on Friday, October 4.

Watch sickening crash at Le Mans series as car smashed to pieces and driver, 63, lucky to be alive

SICKENING scenes played out in Italy with a driver lucky to survive after being involved in a high-speed crash around an ex-Formula One circuit

Claudio Schiavoni miraculously escaped a fatal collision with the wall during the Four Hour Le Mans Series race at Mugello Circuit on Sunday.

But rival drivers managed to take evasive measures to avoid him[/caption]

Entering the third hour of the race, Schiavoni was leading a pack from Rahel Frey following a third safety car restart.

However, Frey’s No. 85 Iron Dames Porsche got too close down the back straight and hit the rear bumper of Schiavoni’s No. 60 Proton Competition Porsche 911 GT3 R.

The knock caused Schiavoni to spin out of control and veer off to the right before hitting a barrier.

The Italian’s car then rebounded back onto the track, with speeding rivals somehow managing to dodge the 63-year-old as debris was shot across the road.

Schiavoni’s Porsche was totalled and triggered a red flag to stop the race.

Despite the high-speed crash, Schiavoni walked away from the wreckage under his own power.

The race time was subsequently extended by 20 minutes to compensate for the stoppage.

It was eventually won by Iron Lynx-Proton, who became the fifth different team from five races to win in the European Le Mans Series this season.

Frey’s Iron Dames team released a statement following the race.

It read: “It was a very difficult race today. The frightening high-speed accident with car #60 was the last thing we wanted to happen.

“We’re really sorry that Claudio, Matteo and Julien had to retire early. P5 in the end, but the most important thing is that Claudio is safe. We hope to see better days in the near future.”

The Mugello circuit played host to a one-off F1 race in 2020 when Covid wreaked havoc on the calendar outside of Europe and the Middle East.

Lewis Hamilton claimed his 90th career win there, while it was also Ferrari‘s 1000th Grand Prix event.

Moto GP legend Valentino Rossi has also won seven times around the FIA Grade-1 track.

F1 does not return until the US Grand Prix in Texas on October 20, with Lando Norris winning the most recent race in Singapore to close the gap on Championship leader Max Verstappen.

Major supermarket launches new way to get big food discounts at 1,000 branches

SAVVY shoppers at one major supermarket can now bag a huge range of new food discounts at nearly 1,000 of its UK stores.

Asda has partnered with food waste platform Too Good To Go to offer its customers “surprise bags” which contain £9 worth of food for just £3.30.

Asda shoppers will be able to pick up a bag at nearly 1,000 shops across the UK[/caption]

The bags will include a variety of different items which are near their use-by date, such as salads, ready meals, baked goods and food to go.

Although the items are near their expiry date they are still safe to eat and would otherwise go to waste.

Customers will be able to purchase a bag at nearly 1,000 sites including Asda Express stores.

They can also be picked up at restaurants located inside Asda stores such as Leon, Greggs, Sbarro and Subway.

Bags from Asda Express, Greggs, Sbarro and Subway will vary in price depending on the contents but they could include breakfast food, lunch, cakes or pastries.

Leon fans will also be able to get their hands on a brand-new Surprise Bag offer which will feature cakes and pastries which would otherwise be wasted.

For £3.50 customers can get over £10.50 worth of treats that would otherwise have been thrown away.

To cash in on the deal shoppers will need to search for a nearby Asda supermarket or Asda Express store in the free Too Good To Go app.

Shoppers can also choose when they want to pick up their bag.

Sophie Trueman, country director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland, said: “We’re so pleased to be extending our partnership with Asda, helping to combat food waste and provide great value to customers.

“We believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win – businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less, and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill.”

a table showing where the new surprise bags will be available

How does Too Good To Go work?

To use Too Good To Go you need to download its app on your smartphone and create an account.

You can then choose your area by entering your location and drop a pin on where you will pick up your surplus food bags.

There is an option to collect your food straight away or later for dinner.

You can also select the distance you are willing to travel based on whether you will be using public transport, walking or driving.

How to save on your supermarket shop

THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.

You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.

If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.

Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.

This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.

Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.

Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

The app will then show you all the Too Good To Go locations in your area.

These are broken down into categories including supermarkets, baked goods and groceries.

You can scroll through the app to see what’s available and click “see all” to check the options in each category.

The app will tell you how much you can save with each surprise bag.

Prices usually range between £2 and £6 depending on the contents of the bag and shoppers usually save at least 30% on every order.

Once you have decided on what food you want to pick up you simply click on the “reserve” button which will ensure that it is assigned to you.

If you have added your payment method then you can simply click to confirm your reservation.

If you have not entered this information then you will be asked for your bank details when you place a reservation.

Once you have paid you will receive an email which will include an invoice and the time of your collection.

To pick up your food go to the shop at the assigned time and show your collection on the app to a member of staff.

Asda is not the only supermarket to be available on Too Good to Go.

Aldi customers can nab a surprise bag at one of the supermarket’s 990 stores across the UK.

The bags contain £10 worth of food for just £3.30 and can be reserved almost 24 hours before collection.

You could get anything from fruit and veg, dairy products, meat and snacks for a fraction of the normal price.

Meanwhile, Morrisons shoppers can buy a surprise bag from one of the supermarket’s 930 convenience stores.

The bags cost £3.09 and contain fresh produce and bakery items.

Other schemes to avoid food waste

Another scheme which gives you free or discounted supermarket food is Olio.

The app lists food from shoppers and supermarkets including Tesco and Waitrose which can be picked up by for free.

Often this food is unwanted or near its sell-by date.

To get started simply download the Olio app and enter your postcode to find free food available near you.

Yellow stickers are another great way to shave precious pounds off the cost of your supermarket shop.

Shops including M&S, Tesco and Morrisons apply yellow stickers to food items that are nearing their best-before date.

These can include sandwiches, baked goods and ready meals.

The stickers are applied by some supermarkets at set times while others will introduce them throughout the day.

Joan Hannington, now 67, made millions back in the 80s by swallowing diamonds in jewellery shops, and by burgling country houses.

And now, Jennifer Gomez, who spent 10 years in prison for breaking into people’s homes and stealing their gold jewellery and money, has shared her own story.

Jennifer revealed that she made millions from climbing through people’s windows, and stealing their belongings.

She melted down the gold jewellery she stole into gold bars, and then sold the bars to collectors and dealers.

“I did this for many years and I made a lot of money”, she said in a video posted to her TikTok channel.

However, her luck finally ran out one day, after the police raided her house, acting on a “hunch”.

Explaining how she finally got rumbled, Jennifer said that she used to melt down her gold at a local DIY store run by a “crooked” man.

She revealed that legally, you have to have a licence to be able to melt gold down, and have to ID everyone that wants to use your service, to make sure that the gold hasn’t been stolen.

However, the “crooked” owner of the shop, let her melt down the gold without ID’ing her, in return for a small cut of her earnings.

Jennifer managed to use this man’s services for years, but it turned out that his shop was being surveyed by the police, for other “crooked things” that he was going.

Eventually, the police became suspicious of Jennifer, as they saw her coming in and out of the shop every week, without seeming to buy anything.

When the police arrested the shop owner, and investigated him about the other “crooked” things he had been up to, he ratted on Jennifer and told them she had been using his machine to melt down gold.

How to protect your home from burglars

  • Install a home security system:
    • Consider alarms, CCTV cameras, and smart doorbells.
    • Choose systems that allow remote monitoring via smartphone.
  • Secure doors and windows:
    • Ensure all doors and windows have robust locks.
    • Use deadbolts and window locks for added security.
    • Consider installing a peephole or door chain.

    • Ensure pathways, driveways, and entrances are well-lit.
  • Maintain your garden:
    • Keep hedges and shrubs trimmed to eliminate hiding spots.
    • Store tools and ladders securely to prevent their use in break-ins.
  • Use timers for lights:
    • Set timers to turn lights on and off to give the impression someone is home.
    • Consider using smart plugs to control appliances remotely.
  • Secure garages and sheds:
    • Ensure these areas are locked with strong padlocks.
    • Store valuable items out of sight.
  • Get to know your neighbours:
    • Join or form a neighbourhood watch scheme.
    • Encourage neighbours to keep an eye on each other’s properties.
  • Be cautious with social media:
    • Avoid posting holiday plans or location updates online.
    • Ensure privacy settings are secure to limit who can see your posts.
  • Mark valuables with a UV pen:
    • Use a UV pen to mark valuables with your postcode and house number.
    • Register items with a property database for easier recovery if stolen.
  • Consider installing a safe:
    • Use a safe to store important documents and valuable items.
    • Ensure the safe is securely bolted to the floor or wall.
  • Review your home insurance:
    • Check that your home insurance policy is up to date.
    • Ensure it covers the value of your possessions.
  • Conduct regular security checks:
    • Periodically review and update your home security measures.
    • Ensure all systems and locks are in good working order.

She explained that when she used to commit burglaries, she would use a fake number plate so that she didn’t get caught, but when she went to the gold shop, she used her real number plate, so the police had her details, and were able to track her down.

They followed Jennifer to her boyfriend’s house, and although they found nothing inside, were eventually able to find a stolen necklace in her car, as well as her fake number plates.

“That necklace is what sunk me”, she said.

“So I went off to prison for 10 years, pregnant with my first and only child.”

Jennifer’s (@jenjen.gomez2.0) has likely left many people open-mouthed, as it has racked up over 2.9 million views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts.

One person said: “I could not listen to this because this happened to me, all my jewellery was stolen.

“Till this day it hurts. The personal damage is unforgivable.”

A second person said: “That’s wild … we need a movie of your life ….”

A third person said: “What an interesting life you’ve lived.”

A WHEELCHAIR-using 96-year-old who became the oldest woman to be convicted of dangerous driving after killing an OAP has avoided jail.

Mills also left an 80-year-old injured during the horror in Sefton, Merseyside, on August 2 last year.

She today avoided jail and was instead handed an 18-month suspended sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

The pensioner is believed to be the oldest person in the UK to be convicted of the offence.

The court was told Mills, who uses a wheelchair, lost control of the car when she applied too much pressure on the accelerator.

Tom Gent, defending, said: “The accelerator pedal fell down beneath her foot, she panicked and failed to react to that.

“She accepts by her plea that was driving that was far below standard.”

Merseyside Police said at the time: “We received a report that a Vauxhall Corsa had mounted a pavement and collided with two pedestrians and two stationary vehicles on Elbow Lane.

“A 76-year-old woman, who was one of the pedestrians, was treated at the scene by paramedics after sustaining a serious head injury but was sadly pronounced dead.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”

My husband was sexting other people three MONTHS after our wedding – I don’t want to be a divorcee but I can’t trust him

THEY got married just three months ago.

But one woman has been left broken-hearted after discovering that her husband has been sexting other people, since their wedding.

A woman has been left heartbroken after discovering her husband has been texting other people – and they only got married three months ago[/caption]

In a post on Reddit, the 27-year-old explained that her other half had asked if she wanted to make a couples account of them – “just for posting pics and maybe as another extra income endeavour”.

While he initially said that he hadn’t posted on the site because of the stringent rules, he later said he had shared a picture.

“After telling me about him posting a picture, I started getting this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach,” she wrote.

“I could tell he wasn’t wanting to talk while he was at work and was just acting different.

“He’s a nervous creature and almost always tells on himself.”

They have an “open phone policy” between them, so when he went to the bathroom, she looked at his phone.

“There it was. Exchanging pictures. Sexting with other people,” she wrote.

“Sexting with men. So many messages…” she continued, adding that it wasn’t the fact the messages were with men had bothered her, as they’re both bisexual.

“It’s the fact that he lied, and hid, and not only looked for something we are suppose to provide for each other somewhere else, but he did it in a way that I can’t be that for him.

“He and I always talked that cheating and looking elsewhere was never an option.

“We would talk if we were unhappy. I guess he changed his mind.”

The couple had been high school sweethearts, before splitting and going their separate ways.

After a series of unsuccessful relationships, they eventually got back together, as she said “there has always been something about him”.

“He’s always seemed almost otherworldly with how he treats and sees me,” she said.

“I have medical issues that I’m constantly dealing with and he’s been there so patiently and kindly.

“I truly thought, ‘this man is my soulmate.’ I really did hold him on a pedestal.. my bad.”

Four red flags your partner is cheating

Private Investigator Aaron Bond from BondRees revealed four warning signs your partner might be cheating.

They start to take their phone everywhere with them

In close relationships, it’s normal to know each other’s passwords and use each other’s phones, if their phone habits change then they may be hiding something.

Aaron says: “If your partner starts changing their passwords, starts taking their phone everywhere with them, even around the house or they become defensive when you ask to use their phone it could be a sign of them not being faithful.”

“You should also look at how they place their phone down when not in use. If they face the phone with the screen facing down, then they could be hiding something.”

They start telling you less about their day

When partners cheat they can start to avoid you, this could be down to them feeling guilty or because it makes it easier for them to lie to you.

“If you feel like your partner has suddenly begun to avoid you and they don’t want to do things with you any more or they stop telling you about their day then this is another red flag.”

“Partners often avoid their spouses or tell them less about their day because cheating can be tough, remembering all of your lies is impossible and it’s an easy way to get caught out,” says Aaron.

Their libido changes

Your partner’s libido can change for a range of reasons so it may not be a sure sign of cheating but it can be a red flag according to Aaron.

Aaron says: “Cheaters often have less sex at home because they are cheating, but on occasions, they may also have more sex at home, this is because they feel guilty and use this increase in sex to hide their cheating.  You may also find that your partner will start to introduce new things into your sex life that weren’t there before.”

They become negative towards you

Cheaters know that cheating is wrong and to them, it will feel good, this can cause tension and anxiety within themselves which they will need to justify.

“To get rid of the tension they feel inside they will try to convince themselves that you are the problem and they will become critical of you out of nowhere.  Maybe you haven’t walked the dog that day, put the dishes away or read a book to your children before bedtime.  A small problem like this can now feel like a big deal and if you experience this your partner could be cheating,” warns Aaron.

But following the sexting, she just doesn’t “see him the same”.

“His godly pedestal has fallen and looks like s**t now, honestly,” she wrote.

“And I don’t what to do. How do I trust him again?

“How do I stop seeing him as a selfish ass?

“Everything he does now drives me nuts and I just feel resentful. Am I being dramatic?”

She concluded by writing: “I don’t want to be a divorcee after only 3 months but I don’t know what to do.

“I’m mad. I’m distrustful.”

“You are not going to see him the same for a really long time,” one person wrote in the comments.

“The trust will need to be rebuilt, but that is a lot of work.

“The important question is, do you think the work is worth it in the end?”

“It is understandable that you used to think that he was special and now you see him as being tainted,” another added.

“Nobody is perfect and you can definitely work past this and set up and establish new boundaries and expectations going forward.”

As a third commented: “This is a huge betrayal of trust. You are not being dramatic.

“You have two choices: couples’ therapy, if you want to make it work.

“Divorce if you don’t.

“You can always try working on it and leave if there is no change.

“Honestly, it is better to split now than later on. There are no kids to worry about.”
