PlayStation fans are confused as years-old adverts take over the PS5 home screen

PLAYSTATION has been having a weird day made worse by the fact that the PlayStation Network was down for hours.

People woke up to find that they couldn’t play their favourite games online, but at least another problem with PlayStation’s online functions was fixed.

The outage lasted several hours for reasons PlayStation is yet to reveal to players, but the confusion over PS5’s online activity doesn’t end there.

Hours before the whole network went down, preventing players from purchasing and downloading games or playing them online, PS5 users noticed something strange on their home screens.

Usually when you hover over a game you want to play on your PS5, you are greeted by the game’s name and some of the artwork.

This lets you easily tell which game you are about to boot up, without trying to look at the small icons.

However, players were instead greeted by a number of confusing messages that were unrelated to the game and often out of date.

People were posting screenshots of a number of different pages they were faced with including YouTube videos or Patch Notes about the game selected.

Others reported seeing adverts for different upcoming games and even out of date movies like Into the SpiderVerse.

Initially, players thought that PlayStation was trialling showing adverts on the home screen, something that Xbox has been doing for a while.

Players have widely criticised Xbox showing full-screen adverts when you boot up your console, and a similar change by PlayStation would be just as unpopular.

Luckily, it appears that spamming players with seemingly random ads wasn’t what PlayStation intended.

In fact, PlayStation has said that it has no intention of changing how the home screen usually displays.

The PS5 home screen has now returned to its usual self, showing players full screen art of the game they’re about to play.

PlayStation tweeted to fans that the change to the game screens was a technical error and completely unintended.

The tweet reads: “A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved.

“There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5.”

Between the network outage and the messed up home screen it’s been a weird day for PlayStation fans.

World’s unluckiest snooker player throws head back in disgust after breaking unwanted 147 record

THAI cueist Thepchaiya Un-Nooh is slowly becoming the most unlucky snooker player in the world.

Un-Nooh created more unwanted history as he missed the final black for a maximum 147 break for the third time in his career on Monday.

Un-Nooh was devastated to have added to his unwanted record

Un-Nooh narrowly missed a tricky cut on the black in the second frame of his 6-4 win over China’s Lei Peifan.

It came during qualifying for the International Championship in Sheffield.

Having won the first frame, Un-Nooh stormed into the second, as he swept opponent Lei Peifan away.

And as he approached his final two shots, he potted the pink, but the white overran.

The world No.38 was faced with a cutback into a top pocket or an attempt at the right middle – and it became his third time unlucky.

Uh-Nooh went for the more difficult shot and marginally missed.

The 39-year-old threw his head back in disgust and even went to the pocket to examine just how close he was to 147 glory.

But it wasn’t all bad – he did go onto win the frame and the match.

What is a 147 break?

A 147, also known as a maximum break, is the highest possible score in a single frame of snooker.

It’s achieved when a player pots all 15 reds, then all 15 blacks, and finally all six colours in a single visit to the table.

A 147 is considered a remarkable achievement in snooker, comparable to a nine-dart finish in darts.

Ronnie O’Sullivan holds the record for the fastest 147, which he made in five minutes and eight seconds during the 1997 World Championship.

Un-Nooh already held an unwanted place in snooker history as the ONLY player to have missed the black for a 147 more than once.

It first happened when Un-Nooh missed out on £44,000 when he missed the last ball at the 2015 UK Championships.

A year later he fell at the last hurdle again in his bid for a 147 break in a World Championship qualifier against Anthony McGill.

He has made four maximum breaks since turning professional in 2009.

Uh-Nooh is one of only two players to hit a 155 break, with the other being Jamie Cope in a witnessed practice match in 2009.

The 155 can only be achieved thanks to the free ball rule if an opponent fouls at the start.

This allows a player to nominate a different ball to pot if they are snookered on the object ball following a foul.

The rules of snooker

THE aim of snooker is to clear the table of all balls - and achieving it in an incredible 147 break is the ultimate goal.

The rectangular table features green baize, a baulk line and semi-circle, known as the D.

It has six pockets, four in each corner and two midway down both long sides.

There are 15 red balls which are arranged in a triangular shape.

There are also six colour balls, and the white cue ball.

Each colour sits on its own designated spot at the start of the game.

While red balls are worth one point when potted, the colours all have a different value.

In ascending order these are:

  • Yellow – two points
  • Green – three points
  • Brown – four points
  • Blue – five points
  • Pink – six points
  • Black – seven points

The first player will cue off and must hit at least one of the red balls in the triangle.

If they pot a red, they can then continue by potting a colour.

However, if no red is potted then their opponent will play the next shot – going for a red first.

Each player must first pot a red ball when it’s their turn to play. If nothing is pocketed it is the other player’s turn at the table.

After each red is potted they must then follow with a colour, then a red, then a colour, and so on.

Whilst there are still red balls on the table, the potted colour balls are returned to their designated spot.

Once all the red balls are pocketed, the player at the table must pot the colours in the order as outlined above.

If they miss then their opponent will have the opportunity to clear the table.

A 147 is a maximum break when all reds are potted by one player in one stint at the table.

In order to achieve 147, the player must pot all 15 reds with 15 blacks for 120 points.

They must then clear all the colours, concluding with the black for 27 points.

During play the rules state that the cue must only touch the white cue ball.

The cue ball also must hit the correct colour ball – reds or colours in order.

If it hits the incorrect colour then a foul is called.

If the cue ball fails to hit any ball or is pocketed it is also a foul.

The player’s turn at the table ends if they play a foul shot.

Players are also penalised if they touch any ball on the table with their person.

My husband left me at home with our six-week-old to attend a wedding – I then saw the dancefloor pics & was stunned

A MUM has been left in disbelief by photos of her partner’s actions at a wedding he attended without her.

She stayed home with her toddler and their six-week-old baby as the bride and groom had a ban on kids.

She said her partner took a “short plane journey” to their friend’s mid-week wedding.

A woman he used to speak to before their relationship was set to attend but she wasn’t concerned because “nothing physical had ever happened apparently.”

“When I was pregnant with our first, a text from her popped up asking if he wanted to play an online game,” she said, posting on Mumsnet

“I thought it was odd but he said they played prior to us meeting and he hadn’t spoken to her while we’d been together.

“I was a bit dubious that anyone would text so out the blue but accepted it, although had a snoop at her fb/insta and saw that he had liked all of her pics, which were primarily selfies.”

On the day of the wedding her partner and the woman seemed cosier than anticipated.

She found photos of them dancing together among snaps of the guests posted online by the groom.

“The photo is just of them and while it looks more like regular dancing than slow dancing, he is beaming looking at her, her hand very close to his as if they’d just let go holding hands,” she said.

“Looking at it anyone would think they were a (very happy) couple.

“AIBU [am I being unreasonable] to not be suspicious if anything further happened and/or to just feel a bit sad?”

Responses to the post were torn if the photo was a red flag that required confronting her partner about.

“I’d be hurt. Especially with a 6 week old baby – it’s a vulnerable time,” one person said.

“You need to talk to your DP. He’s not acting at all well at the moment.

“When you’re 6 weeks postpartum, he should be protective and helpful to you, not flying off to weddings leaving you to cope while he dances the night away.”

Four red flags your partner is cheating

Private Investigator Aaron Bond from BondRees revealed four warning signs your partner might be cheating.

They start to take their phone everywhere with them

In close relationships, it’s normal to know each other’s passwords and use each other’s phones, if their phone habits change then they may be hiding something.

Aaron says: “If your partner starts changing their passwords, starts taking their phone everywhere with them, even around the house or they become defensive when you ask to use their phone it could be a sign of them not being faithful.”

“You should also look at how they place their phone down when not in use. If they face the phone with the screen facing down, then they could be hiding something.”

They start telling you less about their day

When partners cheat they can start to avoid you, this could be down to them feeling guilty or because it makes it easier for them to lie to you.

“If you feel like your partner has suddenly begun to avoid you and they don’t want to do things with you any more or they stop telling you about their day then this is another red flag.”

“Partners often avoid their spouses or tell them less about their day because cheating can be tough, remembering all of your lies is impossible and it’s an easy way to get caught out,” says Aaron.

Their libido changes

Your partner’s libido can change for a range of reasons so it may not be a sure sign of cheating but it can be a red flag according to Aaron.

Aaron says: “Cheaters often have less sex at home because they are cheating, but on occasions, they may also have more sex at home, this is because they feel guilty and use this increase in sex to hide their cheating.  You may also find that your partner will start to introduce new things into your sex life that weren’t there before.”

They become negative towards you

Cheaters know that cheating is wrong and to them, it will feel good, this can cause tension and anxiety within themselves which they will need to justify.

“To get rid of the tension they feel inside they will try to convince themselves that you are the problem and they will become critical of you out of nowhere.  Maybe you haven’t walked the dog that day, put the dishes away or read a book to your children before bedtime.  A small problem like this can now feel like a big deal and if you experience this your partner could be cheating,” warns Aaron.

Another agreed that he had behaved inappropriately and urged the woman not to ignore her suspicions.

“At best, he was flirting with another woman in front of people who know you, while you were stuck home with his babies. Yuck,” they said.

“Did he offer to stay home? He should have. They’re his kids too.

“Never, ever, dismiss your own intuition.

“Do not allow him to minimise and downplay this. Have a frank discussion and pay very particular attention to his responses.

“Don’t allow him to play the DARVO card. At minimum he has embarrassed you and made you feel rotten.”

However, a third argued that they were “reading too much” into the photo.

“He probably was enjoying dancing with her – people dance at weddings and dancing is fun,” they said.

“That’s what the photo captured. That’s all. This woman is an acquaintance.

“Whilst you both must have thought it was a good idea for him to represent you both at the wedding it probably wasn’t. He is needed at home.”

Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, 54, posted a video which he titled “an album update live and direct from the studio.”

Jay – real name Jason Cheetham – could be seen in his home surroundings with a variety of tech equipment and a laptop.

Wearing a blue T-Shirt and black zip-up jacket he turned to face the camera front-on as he addressed his followers and said: “Hi people, just thought I’d send you a message.

“You must all be wondering where’s this bloody album he promised us?

“Well, I have good news. It’s right on the way.

“I am hard at work …” before turning the camera around as he exclaimed: “Can’t let you see that!”

He continued: “But so far, it’s looking like an 11-track banger with more to spare, as it were.

“Just trying to go for the stuff that is the creme de la creme.

“So anyway, I just thought I would put you in the picture seeing as I haven’t been around for ages.

“I’ve been in here working my a** off, 15 hour days.

“But that’s the way it is. Anyway, love you all.”

The Seven Days In Sunny June singer blew a kiss to the camera to wrap his video.

One fan was eager to comment: “Can we have a tour pls! All the classics been waiting ages.”

Another posted: “Wooooo,” as a third put: “The return of the Space Cowboy.”

One then added: “Love you Jamiroquai.”

The Sun was first to report how Jay Kay had started work on the release back in March.

Yet it came following the death of band member Derrick McIntyre earlier this year.

A source opened up on the bassist’s passing to The Sun and said: “Losing Derrick was hard for everyone who knew him.

“It’s a reminder that life is short.

“His passion for music was inspiring and everyone in Jamiroquai had Derrick in mind.”

During their 30-year career, Jamiroquai sold over 40 million records and notched up nine top 10 singles.

Their last record, Automaton, became their ninth top ten album.
