I was so fat my calf BURST and kids called me a beached whale – now I’ve shed 10st without pills or surgery

A MUM so overweight that her calf burst underneath now looks unrecognisable after she shed 10st without pills or surgery.

Erin Drotleff began gaining weight in school, where classmates cruelly nicknamed her “thunder thighs” and “beached whale.”

Sadly, the cruel comments didn’t stop at the school gates.

At home, Erin, from Texas, US endured similarly hurtful taunts, which eventually triggered a severe eating disorder.

“It wasn’t long before I became a closet binge eater with a horrible relationship with food,” she said.

“I was constantly yo-yo dieting and basing my self-worth on the number on the scale.”

Now a mum of three, Erin has tried various diets, from Atkins to weight-loss drugs, but none proved effective in the long run.

She’d lose weight, just to regain it again.

At her largest, Erin weighed 22 stone.

“I was obese, my asthma was terrible, and I was often out of breath,” she admitted.

“I had severe foot pain (plantar fasciitis), back pain, heavy periods, and I would get sweat rashes.

“Mentally, I was anxious, depressed, and angry. I didn’t feel like myself anymore,” she added.

In 2022, Erin attended a parent-teacher conference at her child’s school.

As she was walking down the hallway towards her daughter’s classroom Erin’s calf “burst”.

“I heard a loud pop and immediately felt indescribable pain,” she recalled.

“I sat through the conference sweating until my husband got to the school and was able to help me back to my car,” she said.

“I knew in that moment that I needed to lose weight,” she added.

It took Erin three months to see the scale move.

By the fifth month, she had lost just over one stone, and her weight kept dropping over the following months.

She decided to share her progress on TikTok for others to see.

Since then, she has lost nearly 10 stone, bringing her weight down to an impressive 12 stone.

“It was motivating to hear about other women who had lost weight; their stories helped me so much with my own weight loss,” she said.

“I then started sharing my tips, recipes and favourite healthy foods.”

Erin starts her day with greens and coffee, followed by a protein-packed breakfast like oats or eggs.

Lunch and dinner contain protein, jasmine rice, veggies, and a sauce.

“I always save room for a nighttime snack to avoid any late-night binge,” she added.

The NHS 12-step plan to help you lose weight

FROM faddy diets to dodgy detoxes - most of us have heard it all before when it comes to weight loss.

But burning fat can be easy and mostly free.

In fact, the NHS has a whole load of medically-approved tips for weight loss and shedding body fat once and for all…

  1. Don’t skip breakfast
Skipping breakfast will not help you lose weight. You could miss out on essential nutrients and you may end up snacking more throughout the day because you feel hungry.
  2. Eat regular meals
Eating at regular times during the day helps burn calories at a faster rate. It also reduces the temptation to snack on foods high in fat and sugar.
  3. Eat plenty of fruit and veg
Fruit and veg are low in calories and fat, and high in fibre – 3 essential ingredients for successful weight loss. They also contain plenty of vitamins and minerals.
  4. Get more active
Being active is key to losing weight and keeping it off. As well as providing lots of health benefits, exercise can help burn off the excess calories you cannot lose through diet alone.
  5. Drink lots of water
People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. You can end up consuming extra calories when a glass of water is really what you need.
  6. Eat high fibre foods
Foods containing lots of fibre can help keep you feeling full, which is perfect for losing weight. Fibre is only found in food from plants, such as fruit and veg, oats, wholegrain bread, brown rice and pasta, and beans, peas and lentils.
  7. Read food labels
Knowing how to read food labels can help you choose healthier options. Use the calorie information to work out how a particular food fits into your daily calorie allowance on the weight loss plan.
  8. Use a smaller plate
Using smaller plates can help you eat smaller portions. By using smaller plates and bowls, you may be able to gradually get used to eating smaller portions without going hungry. It takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain it’s full, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full.
  9. Don’t ban foods
Do not ban any foods from your weight loss plan, especially the ones you like. Banning foods will only make you crave them more. There’s no reason you cannot enjoy the occasional treat as long as you stay within your daily calorie allowance.
  10. Don’t stock junk food
To avoid temptation, do not stock junk food – such as chocolate, biscuits, crisps and sweet fizzy drinks – at home. Instead, opt for healthy snacks, such as fruit, unsalted rice cakes, oat cakes, unsalted or unsweetened popcorn, and fruit juice.
  11. Cut down on alcohol
A standard glass of wine can contain as many calories as a piece of chocolate. Over time, drinking too much can easily contribute to weight gain.
  12. Plan your meals
Try to plan your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the week, making sure you stick to your calorie allowance. You may find it helpful to make a weekly shopping list.

Exercise has also helped Erin shed the pounds.

“Walking has always been my go-to,” Erin added.

“But six months in, I started weight training and aim for three sessions a week.

“I also challenge myself to run, even though I hate it!”

In January 2024, Erin launched Drotfit, her online coaching business which includes a four-week meal plan to help people start their weight loss journey.

“Right after it launched, people from all over the world started messaging me, saying they were losing weight with it,” said.

Looking to the future, Erin is focused on growing her business while staying committed to helping others.

“My advice to those wanting to lose weight is – don’t overcomplicate it.

“Focus on nutrition over the exercise and give it time.

“Be patient as you become someone you have never been before. Motivation won’t be constant, so stop waiting for it to get started.

“When you mess up, get back on track; don’t dwell on it.

“A cheat meal is ok, but it does not need to become a cheat day,” she concluded.

Premier League fans can buy pints of beer for £4 or under at six stadiums in the UK as prices revealed

SIX Premier League clubs are offering a pint of beer for £4 or less at their stadiums… while others do not sell any for less than £6.

As the cost of attending matches continues to increase, fans are also combating the rise in prices of merchandise, food and drink.

Liverpool and West Ham fans recently protested the change in concession pricing.

And Hammers supporters are one of two sets of fans who are also unable to buy pints of beer for under £6 at their home ground.

The London Stadium’s cheapest beer is £6.30 – and it is the same at Arsenal.

West Ham are also the only top-flight English club to charge £5 for a pie.

Data collected by Flashscore shows there are a number of Premier League sides putting them to shame with their lower prices.

Surprisingly, Manchester United offer the cheapest beer in the Premier League at just £3.

That is 50p less than the next best at newly-promoted Ipswich who provide pints for as little as £3.50.

And there are four other clubs who have kept their beer prices at the £4 mark.

They are Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Wolves.

Champions Manchester City sit 11th on the list as they offer a pint for £4.60.

Liverpool are also down in 14th at £4.40, but fans will be shocked to learn Leicester are as high as third at £5.80 despite spending last season in the Championship.

Meet the lifelong Man Utd fan and Welshman, 31, set to face David De Gea in Uefa Conference League tie

MAN UTD fan Connor Roberts is set to face his hero David De Gea – as The New Saints begin their European adventure in Florence.

TNS have become the first domestic Welsh side to reach the group stage of European competition.

They start the six-game Uefa Conference League phase at last year’s finalists Fiorentina on Thursday.

For keeper Roberts, 31, it is a dream come true, with former United star De Gea set to don the Viola gloves after ending his year-long absence from football to sign for the Italian giants.

Robert, who expects to be the busiest man on the night at Stadio Artemio Franchi, said: “I’m a lifelong Man United fan and it would be extra special to play against De Gea.

“He’s arguably one of the best shot-stoppers the Premier League has ever had.

“He was the best goalkeeper in the Premier League by a country mile and I’d say he probably saved United from a couple of bottom-half finishes.

“Unfortunately it didn’t finish too well for him because [Erik ten Hag] came in and wanted to go down a different direction, but football’s all about opinions.”

Roberts counts former United first-team coach Eric Ramsey – now in charge of MLS outfit Minnesota – as a good friend.

And he even considered asking him to contact De Gea before the Florence tie.

He continued: “Eric’s brother Alex is one of my closest mates and is also involved at TNS as part-time goalkeeping coach.

“I’ve also got a good relationship with Eric and I was thinking of asking him to drop De Gea a line and say ‘Listen, can you give the TNS goalkeeper five minutes at the end’?

“But I’ll definitely go and ask for his shirt at the end and maybe have a quick chat then.”

Wrexham-born Roberts’ own career has not hit the heights he dreamed of after signing for Everton aged 15 when he faced the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Tim Cahill and Yakubu in first-team training sessions.

The Wales Under-21 international had various loan stays before spells at Cheltenham and Chester and a move into the Welsh Premiership.

The highlight was a call-up to Chris Coleman’s senior Wales squad for a friendly against the Netherlands in June 2014.

Man Utd ratings vs Tottenham

MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a 3-0 thrashing against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half for fouling James Maddison, forcing Erik Ten Hag’s side to play with 10 men against Ange Postecoglou’s team.

After back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and FC Twente fans hoped United would redeem themselves against Spurs.

However, the match at Old Trafford quickly turned sour. Brennan Johnson scored early and things worsened when Fernandes was sent off allowing Spurs to extend their lead to 3-0.

And here is how SunSports Charlie Wyett rated the Manchester United stars.

Andre Onana – 5

Stood his ground to deliver a good save from Timo Werner who was clean through – no chance for either goal.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

First in the refs’ book for chopping down Destiny Udogie. Could also have blocked Micky van de Ven for the goal. Just watched Solanke make it 3-0.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4

Shocking first half. Failed to cut out the cross from Micky van de Ven which led to the first goal.

Lisandro Martinez – 5

Switched off for the Spurs goal and was drawn to the ball and Johnson was left unmarked.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Gave the ball away in dangerous areas and struggled against Johnson.

Manuel Ugarte – 5

Suffered a stinker and was lucky to last until the 73rd minute.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5

Not one of his better performances and was taken off just before half-time following Fernandes’ sending-off.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Over-ran the ball for Tottenham’s first. Way off the pace.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

Arguably the worst captain in United’s history. Deserved red card for his challenge on James Maddison.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6

Had United’s only chance in the first half but hit the outside of the post. Improved in the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

Looked completely lost up front – threatening to be another poor Erik ten Hag signing. Replaced at half-time.

Subs:

Mount (for Mainoo 45)  5, Casemiro (for Zirkzee 46) 7, Hojlund (for Rashford 73) 5, Eriksen (for Ugarte 73) 5.

Roberts remembers: “I couldn’t catch a ball in the warm-up, I was that nervous.

“I went from Wales Under-21s where I was starter over Danny Ward – who has gone on to have a fantastic career – to not being able to get a club for love or money and that was a really tough period.

“I always thought I would climb back up the ladder, but in the end it didn’t turn out that way.”

TNS have already played eight European matches this season.

And Roberts accepts facing Italy striker Moise Kean will be a far sterner test than anything experienced before.

He added: “We’ve managed to attract a bit more attention to the Welsh Premiership with our run in Europe and it’s fantastic to play a team like Fiorentina.

“Hopefully we can keep that solidity we’ve had in the European campaign. It’s a big ask, but giving the best version of ourselves is what counts.”
