How Nicolas Jackson converted Dream Team managers from doubters into believers

NICOLAS JACKSON (£4.5m) is a somewhat curious footballer.

The Senegal international has been the punchline of many jokes since his transfer to Chelsea, with even a few of his own fans running low on patience at times.

Last season, he was guilty of several glaring misses and his erratic decision-making made him a frustrating player to watch when things weren’t gelling for the Blues.

While those who regularly watched Jackson would have been baffled from time to time, his first campaign in England was by no means a disaster, far from it.

Jackson’s stock is increasing every week[/caption]

When all was said and done, he scored 17 goals in all competitions; for comparison, Didier Drogba scored more goals in just two of his nine seasons at Chelsea.

Nobody is sincerely comparing Jackson to Drogba but the point is the former’s output in 2023/24 was well above what one would expect of a flop signing, as many fans of other clubs portrayed him.

And the 23-year-old has improved further at the start of this season, with four goals and three assists from just six outings.

He’s still guilty of the odd brain fade but more and more supporters are viewing the forward as an influential net positive; his understanding with Cole Palmer (£6.2m) is proving particularly fruitful and he disorganises defenders.

And there’s evidence that Dream Team managers are steadily being converted from mocking doubters into believers too.

At the time of writing, Jackson is the third-most recruited player ahead of Gameweek 7.

His ownership has risen to 13.1%, which makes him the fifth-most popular asset in his position.

Jackson’s popularity spike is entirely justified as only Dominic Solanke (£4.2m) has banked more points from his last three outings among forwards.

More broadly, he’s racked up 56 points overall and ranks fourth in his position, just two points shy of third-placed Ollie Watkins (£5.9m).

It will be interesting to see to what extent Jackson features against Gent on Thursday as he played just 27 minutes across Chelsea’s two Conference League play-off legs.

Enzo Maresca has already discussed workload management in relation to European commitments when he explained why Palmer, the club’s talisman, was omitted from the continental squad.

It may be the case that Christopher Nkunku (£4.5m) leads the line from the get-go on Thursday nights – the Frenchman has also scored four goals this season.

Another potential hurdle for Jackson to negotiate in pursuit of more Dream Team points is a testing league schedule across the next six weeks or so.

Chelsea are due to face Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal in their next five outings in the top flight.

That being said, Maresca’s side are the Premier League’s top scorers at present and Jackson has been a key contributor so far.

Who’s laughing now?

Golf tips and predictions for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

It is not just the likes of Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bill Murray who bring star power to this week’s Dunhill Links Championship, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm heading a stellar list of golfers.

McIlroy and Rahm will both be desperate to go one better after suffering painful play-off defeats in their last starts. It is no surprise most bookies make them joint favourites at around 7-1.

Throw in Ryder Cup team-mates Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, and Shane Lowry – plus five time Major winner Brooks Koepka and double BMW PGA champion Billy Horschel – and it really is a cracking field

Golf tips

Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick is at longer odds than any of those rivals. He is a best-priced 40-1, despite his impressive three shot victory last year.

But Fitzpatrick has struggled this year. So maybe the bookies have got that one right – and the only shorter priced player who offers real value in my book is in-form Swede Alex Noren, a 25-1 shot.

Noren has been close to landing this title a couple of times.

He was tied second on his last appearance two years ago, was third a few years back, and his worst finish in his last four visits was a share of 15th. So he can certainly handle anything the Scottish weather can throw at him.

Another Swede worth considering is Sebastian Soberberg, who was fifth here last year at big odds. He can be backed at 80-1 this time.

Soderbeg was in sizzling form in mid-summer, when he rattled off a win, two seconds and a third in quick succession.

A back problem halted the momentum, and he has missed the cut twice since returning to action. But both times it was by just one shot, and he should be rid of the rust by now.

Continuing the Scandinavian theme, British Masters champion Niklas Norgaard of Denmark is another player who catches the eye at 50-1. He finished seventh in this event two years ago, and occupied the same position at Wentworth.

Longshots often go close in this event – like Marcus Armitage, one of three joint runners-up a year ago, despite coming in on the back of four missed cuts in a row.

He is a best-priced 300-1, and last year’s effort makes that look big. Similarly, Frenchman Antoine Rozner, 4th and 7th here in the last two years, should not be ruled out at 100-1.

Finally, Joe Dean did us an each way favour when finishing in a share of third last week at 200-1. He is the same price this time, so it may be worth re-investing some of those Spanish Open returns.

*******************************************************

Unlike the Dunhill, the Sanderson Farms Championship on the PGA is desperately short of big names. And that is reflected in a wide open market.

World No 34 Nick Dunlap is the highest ranked golfer in the field and Denny McCarthy – listed five places below him – is the only other player from the world’s top 50.

Surprisingly, neither of them is favourite this week. Keith Mitchell is as low as 18-1, presumably based on a couple of 12th placed finishes in his last two starts, while Seamus Power is second best on most lists.

I would prefer Dunlap over either of them. He won on the Tour this year while he was still an amateur, and has produced a couple more decent performances. So a top quote of 30-1 is not to be sniffed at.

Old favourite Eric Cole’s consistency makes him a tempting option at around 40-1, especially as he is the third highest ranked player here as the world No 53.

Matt McCarty, a three-time winner on the Korn Ferry Tour this year to sew up promotion to the top tier, looks more than capable of making his mark at this level. So a 50-1 quote seems pretty reasonable.

Celebs Go Dating star secretly splits from ‘cheating’ boyfriend they met on the show after shock discovery

CELEBS Go Dating and Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has secretly split from the boyfriend he met through the Channel 4 show.

The Gogglebox legend was blindsided by a shock discovery, months after finding love with the help of the TV dating experts.

Gogglebox legend Stephen was a hit with viewers

He joined the series in the hope of moving on from his six-year marriage to Daniel Lustig which ended earlier this year.

After a number of dates that didn’t go so well he met David, from Guernsey, and the pair hit it off.

In the last episode of Celebs Go Dating he gushed to the experts: “I think there’s something special here.

“It has been phenomenal. I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I didn’t think, for a moment, that I was going to be finishing this journey with a hottie on my arm, celebrating with all the other celebs. I am over the moon.”

After the series ended they made a go of things, with Stephen travelling from his hometown in Brighton to spend time with David in Guernsey.

Then two weeks ago Stephen learned David had been seeing other men while they were dating and he was on a dating app.

Sources told The Sun Stephen was shocked and confronted David straight away.

They told The Sun: “David thought Stephen wouldn’t find out because they lived so far apart and he wanted to carry on seeing other people.

“But Stephen confronted David, and now they’re not speaking.

“It’s definitely over, there’s no going back.

“Stephen is not interested and he wasn’t a fan of the distance anyway.”

Stephen and his ex-husband Daniel announced their split in April.

Daniel and Stephen had privately separated months before the split came to light and remained living together.

Speaking on podcast My Dirty Laundry, Daniel confirmed that despite the break-up, the pair were still living together, and divulged the reason behind the split.

“We had a really good innings,” he said of their marriage.

“It was really good for a really long time and then it kind of petered off, and then we kind of decided the best thing was to end as friends.

“We’re work colleagues, and partners at work as well, and our basis of our relationship has always been friendship as well,” he added.

“We get on better now than we did when we were together, so it’s fine.

“I know for a lot of people they probably can’t understand it, but it has worked out for us.”

Daniel and Stephen are both hairdressers by trade, and together own two salons in West Sussex, as well as their home.

Stephen signed on to star in Celebs Go Dating with Love Island’s Chris Taylor, MAFS UK’s Ella Morgan, Coronation Street’s Helen Flanagan and Lauryn Goodman.

Jamelia and Made In Chelsea’s Tristan Phipps completed the cast.

I love wearing £14 Tesco slippers as outerwear for office days, I’m giving ‘Mormon Wives’ chic

AWAY from the our screens, Gogglebox star Roisin Kelly works in an office for her regular job.

The armchair critic features on the Channel 4 show alongside her boyfriend Joe Kyle.

Other fashion fans are in full agreement about the look[/caption]

And it looks like hery cosy sofa style influences her workwear style.

In a recent TikTok video, Roisin admitted she wears her Tesco slippers to the office.

She picked up her Tasman Ugg dupes in the supermarket for just £14.

Styling them with jeans and a flowy white top, she said: “I need advice because I want to wear a pair of slippers to work.

“I got these the other day and they look like those Tasman Uggs.

“Anyway, one episode of Mormon Wives and a pair of fake Uggs later and I have started dressing like a Mormon person.

“It’s because I’m embracing my natural hair which means not brushing it and leaving it frizzy.”

She added: “But I want to wear these to work. I wanted the real Uggs but I’m not going to spend a hundred or however many pounds on shoes to then have to buy f***ing shoe protector [and] shoe covers.

“So here I am in my slippers that I’m going to wear. But I don’t know if they look too much like slippers. Maybe I’ll try and get away with it.

“I look like somebody’s grandpa, Grandpa Joe. I want to wear them so they’re coming with me to work.”

Her try on video has racked up more than 69,000 views, and fashion fans are in full agreement over the slippers.

“I would deffo wear them”, insisted one.

A second wrote: “I wear mine to the shops.”

A third added: “No these are all I wear to the office during winter, Mormon slay.”

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Act confident and no-one will question you. You can rock it.”

Roisin Kelly and hilarious boyfriend Joe Kyle were the first Scottish armchair critics to appear on Gogglebox in six years when they made their 2022 debut.

Away from the show, Roisin has hosted a podcast titled Nags and Brags, which is making a comeback.

She’s also found social media fame by sharing outfits clips and items she’s selling on Vinted with her 60,000 followers.

And the social media producer regularly posts her work wardrobe picks.

In a recent video, Roisin admitted she had “good visions” for an office outfit.

She paired a baggy white top with a denim tie-front gilet, red striped beach trousers and red Adidas gazelles.

But she later joked she looked more like a pantomime baddie with her final look.

Skepta reveals first look at new video for Why Lie with Flo Milli – after his track with Kanye West is leaked

GRIME heavyweight Skepta has unveiled a sneak peek of his upcoming music video featuring rising American rapper Flo Milli.

The 42-year-old gave fans a preview of new music video for his upcoming single with Flo Milli, 24, titled Why Lie (Wave Your Wrist) – which is set to drop soon.

The new track is a sample off a 1999 Busta Rhymes and Janet Jackson single[/caption]

The music star, who also goes by the name Big Smoke, took to TikTok to share the clip of the music video which sees Skepta in various behind the scenes shots alongside Flo Milli.

Flo Milli shot to fame after her 2018 single Beef FloMix and its 2019 follow up In the Party both went viral on TikTok- she has amassed nearly 1 billion streams to date.

Their new track features a sample from the 1999 song What’s It Gonna Be by Busta Rhymes featuring Janet Jackson.

Fans couldn’t be more excited for the single to drop as the rappers’ music releases have been slow over recent years.

One user commented: “ What are you waiting for to drop this masterpiece.”

“This track is fire ! Can’t wait for the drop !” commented another.

“ We Are Back Baby !!“ exclaimed a third.

“ Obsessed ( heart emoji),” added a fourth.

Another fan said: “ Drop it already !”

Skepta had been quiet since 2019 with eager fans left waiting for Big Smoke’s return however early this year the music star dropped his sixth album Knife and Fork.

Now, it seems Skepta has made a full return to the music scene as he sets out to release more singles and collaborate with even more artists.

The release of the music video preview comes on the heels of a leaked track between the grime artist and global superstar Kanye West.

The Chicago-born rapper and producer revealed a snippet of a new track on his highly anticipated collab album Vultures 2 at a private listening party.

Footage captured from the event showed Kanye on a DJ deck with him and Skepta’s vocals blaring through the speakers.

The UK grime legend can be heard rapping the lyrics: “How we living I’m never quitting, Rollie ain’t ticking 818 sippin.”

The song is reportedly called Cash Cow and remains unreleased but the US and UK collab could lead to more cross-Atlantic partnerships in the future for the grime star.
