Diego Maradona’s body to be ‘removed from graveyard’ as judge grants special permission for memorial

DIEGO MARADONA’s body is set to be moved – almost four years after his death.

Maradona died in 2020 after suffering a heart attack at his home.

He had left hospital just two weeks earlier following a bleed on the brain.

The 60-year-old was revered as one of the greatest football players of the 20th century.

Maradona was buried in the Jardin Bella Vista cemetery in Argentina’s capital.

His children have been attempting to create a dedicated mausoleum since 2021.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, a judge finally ruled the move lawful on Tuesday.

It will see Maradona’s body transferred to a permanent memorial site in the city’s Puerto Madero neighbourhood.

His children claim it will be “a place of eternal rest where he can be visited and receive the recognition and love of the millions of people who express it daily through different means.”

The shrine will be known as the Memorial del Diez or M10 Memorial, in honour of Maradona’s famous No. 10 shirt.

Thousands of fans lined the streets in Argentina and Italy following the icon’s death almost four years ago.

Maradona was a club legend at Napoli, where he won Serie A and the UEFA Cup in 1989.

A maverick forward, the unpredictable superstar was named alongside Pele as a joint winner in the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award.

Famed for his ‘Hand of God’ goal against England at the 1986 World Cup, he was known as El Pibe de Oro – the Golden Boy.

Maradona was survived by five children and ex-wife Claudia Villafane, who he divorced from in 2003.

A delayed trial brought by his daughters Giannina and Dalma will begin next March.

The pair claim Maradona’s medical team is culpable for his death.

The criminal case against eight doctors and nurses will focus on how they treated Maradona in his final hours.

They are accused of leaving the 60-year-old in agony as his condition worsened.

The eight medical staff, who include his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, face 25 years in jail if convicted.

Kevin O’Connell labels Aaron Rodgers ‘special’ as Minnesota Vikings coach recalls college playing days in California

MINNESOTA Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell knows how talented Aaron Rodgers is more than most in the league.

O’Connell, 39, has faced the future Hall of Fame quarterback before when he played for the Green Bay Packers.

But he also remembers Rodgers from his own playing days as a quarterback growing up in California.

O’Connell is a year younger than Rodgers – who his Vikings team will face when they take on the New York Jets in London on Sunday.

He played quarterback in high school in Carlsbad, California and for San Diego State in college.

O’Connell was selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft and played in the league for four years.

Rodgers, meanwhile, grew up in Chico, California and played for the University of California before being drafted in 2005.

“He’s still playing and I’m 10 years into a coaching career – so you can figure that one out,” O’Connell laughed as he spoke to The Sun at the Minnesota Vikings’ team facility last month.

“I’ve really known Aaron going back to when we both lived in San Diego when I was playing.

“He’s such a special player, maybe one of the smartest, most aware players in our whole league.”

O’Connell faced Rodgers twice in his debut season as Vikings head coach in 2022 when he was quarterback at Green Bay.

The Vikings and Packers split that series 1-1.

Rodgers left Green Bay for the New York Jets after the 2022 season but tore his Achilles just four plays into 2023.

Minnesota travels to London this week with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Jets have stuttered to 2-2.

O’Connell is banking on the experience of going up against Rodgers in 2022 to help the Vikings to victory in London.

“There’s such a familiarity from his time in Green Bay,” the coach said.

“Whether it’s called the same formationally or who’s catching it, it’s going to be a lot of principles that he’s made come to life for many, many years.

London calling

The New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings will kick off the NFL's annual run of London fixtures this weekend.

New York and Minnesota will clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday October 6 at 2.30pm local time – 9.30am ET for fans back home in America.

It will be the first of three straight NFL Sundays that begin with an early game live from London.

The following week, Tottenham also plays host to the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Chicago Bears.

And on October 20, the Jags will head across town to Wembley Stadium to take on the New England Patriots.

“So I think you can take something out of that and then be able to evaluate the first four weeks of the season and have a comprehensive plan.

“You’ve got to know that if you try to sub when you shouldn’t or you try to do something that catches his eye, he’s going to take advantage of it.

“There’s a lot of ways he’s going to figure out something on the fly.

“And then on top of it, he’s one of the greatest pure throwers of the football of all time.”

O’Connell led the Vikings to a dramatic victory over the New Orleans Saints in London two years ago.

That same year, Rodgers and his Packers were stunned by the New York Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It was my first year as a head coach,” O’Connell recalled.

“Really I didn’t know what to expect, but then you actually get there and you realise just how much of a special experience it is.

“I’m a huge fan of these London games.

“I’ll never forget the juice in the stadium that you feel, regardless of who the home team or away team is.

“I think it’s really cool for our game and for the league to make our special game a little bit more known worldwide.”

And it includes a host of shock entries in the list.

Find out if boxing makes the top ten amid a golden era including Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk[/caption]

A new piece of research has been completed to draw up the latest numbers of fans.

And it sees approximately half of the 7billion world population watching the No1 sport.

The figures – compiled by World Atlas – delve into the figures to work out which events get the most eyeballs on them.

So, which sports make the top ten?

10. Golf – 450m

Tiger Woods may no longer be at his prime but an estimated 450million tune in to watch golf – thanks in part to dominant American world No1s Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda.

This autumn’s team events – the Solheim Cup and the Presidents Cup – offer a different format for fans to support teams rather than individuals.

9. Rugby – 475m

South Africa won the 2023 Rugby World Cup in thrilling fashion with one-point victories over France, England and New Zealand in the knockout stages.

The sport is immensely popular across the world – from Fiji to Wales to Argentina to Japan although England, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are the only World Cup winners.

8. Baseball – 500m

Unlike rugby, baseball has a high concentration of its fans in one country, the US.

So much so that the so-called World Series is made up of the MLB teams – 29 from America and one from Canada – although matches have been played outside of North America including at the London Stadium.

7. Basketball – 800m

Basketball also has big appeal for its American league – the NBA – but the sport is also incredibly popular in Europe.

The scale of its appeal at the 2024 Olympics was clear to see as the all-star American side featuring LeBron James and Steph Curry pipped Serbia and then won gold against hosts France.

6. Table Tennis – 850m

The first surprising sport to make the top ten is table tennis in sixth.

Massive in China, the game has spread throughout Asia and beyond – and is helped by its simple rules and accessibility to play.

5. Volleyball – 900m

To think volleyball has 900m fans and is the fifth-biggest sport in the world is extraordinary.

But it is such a dynamic sport to watch and is particularly enjoyed on the European continent, Central and South America – with Brazil winning three men’s world championships in a row. Philippines host next year’s event.

4. Tennis – 1bn

Another sport with truly worldwide appeal – helped by the fact the sport follows the sun throughout the year and is played in some of the biggest cities plus anyone can give it a go at their local courts.

Tennis world No1s have been from Scotland, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, America, Romania, Australia, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Chile, Brazil, Russia, Italy, Belgium, France, Denmark, Japan, Belarus, Poland and more.

3. Hockey – 2bn

Again, this could be one to raise a few eyebrows but hockey is adored in India, where there is a population of nearly 1.5bn.

The game originated in England in the 18th Century but it is now the Netherlands who are the dominant nation across men’s and women’s hockey.

2. Cricket – 2.5bn

For similar reasons, cricket takes second spot thanks to its outrageous popularity in India with Virat Kohli boasting 270m Instagram followers.

World Cup winners have also come from Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and England – with the next men’s event hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

1. Football – 3.5bn

And unsurprisingly, top of the pile is football.

The global game truly is exactly that with huge viewing figures across the world.

So much so that approximately half of the entire population is estimated to watch football – with tournaments such as the World Cup, Euros, Champions League and Premier League providing box-office viewing.

No fewer than 48 teams from six confederations will compete at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

And that top ten means there is no space for boxing, MMA, Formula One or horseracing.

Man ‘terrified’ after being interviewed for a job by ‘weird’ AI avatar

A MAN has been left both spooked and disappointed after being interviewed for a new job by a bizarre AI avatar.

Instead of having a video call with a human interviewer, US-based marketer Jack Ryan was met with a red-haired female avatar asking him about his work experience.

Jack Ryan shared his experience on professional social platform LinkedIn[/caption]

The avatar even encouraged him to answer her questions with a story.

During the conversation, Ryan, a San Diego native, can be seen with a smirk on his face.

In a now viral post on professional social media platform LinkedIn, Ryan said: “AI avatars are now performing interviews

“Not sure if I’m impressed, weirded out or terrified. (Clearly my face gives me away).”

Ryan, a self-described disabled athlete, was interviewed by an ‘AI agent’ supplied by Australian startup called Fairgo.ai.

The company says its AI avatars can halve the time it takes to screen candidates for open roles.

But it also says they can produce 25 per cent fewer in-person interviews, which Ryan called “a perfect demonstration of late stage capitalism”.

Speaking to 404 Media, Ryan added: “While Fairgo’s intent is to provide a fair and equitable interview process, I can’t imagine AI, LLMs, and other tools are able to interpret the human emotion and facial reactions to provide an actual, well rounded interview.

“As a disabled individual who is reliant on remote work, I am already concerned about openly stating I am disabled in the forms that companies put at the end of their job applications,.

“To add an AI component into this mix, I imagine, would have the opposite effect of inclusion and DEI.”

According to Fairgo’s CEO Julian Bright, once the introductory video voiced by the AI avatar ends, interviews are done by an audio-only AI.

It is only the audio transcripts that are reviewed after the 10-15minute interview is over.

Bright added that Fairgo does not make decisions on who to shortlist for a role.

That decision is always up to the hirers.

What are the arguments against AI?

Artificial intelligence is a highly contested issue, and it seems everyone has a stance on it. Here are some common arguments against it:

Loss of jobs – Some industry experts argue that AI will create new niches in the job market, and as some roles are eliminated, others will appear. However, many artists and writers insist the argument is ethical, as generative AI tools are being trained on their work and wouldn’t function otherwise.

Ethics – When AI is trained on a dataset, much of the content is taken from the Internet. This is almost always, if not exclusively, done without notifying the people whose work is being taken.

Privacy – Content from personal social media accounts may be fed to language models to train them. Concerns have cropped up as Meta unveils its AI assistants across platforms like Facebook and Instagram. There have been legal challenges to this: in 2016, legislation was created to protect personal data in the EU, and similar laws are in the works in the United States.

Misinformation – As AI tools pulls information from the Internet, they may take things out of context or suffer hallucinations that produce nonsensical answers. Tools like Copilot on Bing and Google’s generative AI in search are always at risk of getting things wrong. Some critics argue this could have lethal effects – such as AI prescribing the wrong health information.

Legendary British actress looks unrecognisable as she transforms for new Channel 4 drama alongside Steve Coogan

TV star Harriet Walter looks a world away from her usual self as she takes on the role of the first female UK Prime Minister in the new biopic series.

Starring on Channel 4 alongside actor and comedian Steve Coogan, Harriet looks every inch the unmistakable Margaret Thatcher.

Channel 4 has shared a sneak peek of Harriet Walter as Margaret Thatcher in first look images for a new Channel 4 drama Brian And Margaret[/caption]

In the first teaser images ahead of the two part series, Steve wears a grey suit as he takes on the role of broadcaster Brian Walden.

Yet it’s Harriet Walter who steals the show with her usual brunette hair swept back into the politician’s trademark bouffant hairstyle.

In one of the images, she can be sat waiting to be interviewed in a dark blue suit with a white shirt which was a typical style for her.

Harriet, who has starred in series such as Succession, Ted Lasso, Silo, isn’t the first star to take on the role of the Conservative leader.

In the past, Gillian Anderson won an Emmy for her portrayal in The Crown and Meryl Streep scooped an Oscar 12 years ago for The Iron Lady.

The new series ‘Brian and Margaret’ will air next year on Channel 4, and is based on political editor and TV producer Rob Burley’s book Why is This Lying Bastard Lying to Me?: Searching for the Truth on Political TV.

It’s directed by BAFTA-winning Stephen Frears, who also directed A Very English Scandal and Florence Foster Jenkins, Philomena.

During the now infamous ITV interview between Brian and Margaret, the 45-minutes of questioning was credited as being part of the downfall of Margaret and leading to her resignation.

One now famous question saw Brian ask about how her own Conservative cabinet were turning against her in 1989, as Brian asked Margaret whether she was ‘off her trolley’.

He said: “You come over as being someone who one of your backbenchers said is slightly off her trolley, authoritarian, domineering, refusing to listen to anybody else – why?

“Why cannot you publicly project what you have just told me is your private character?”

She answered: “Brian, if anyone’s coming over as domineering in this interview, it’s you.”

The Channel 4 website details the new series as: “When Brian and Margaret came together for their last ever TV interview, little did they know they were about to embark on one of the most famous political exchanges of all time.

“The 45-minute showdown became a national talking point and set in train a series of events that ended with Margaret’s resignation. Afterwards, they never spoke again…”

Speaking of his role Steve said: “It’s great to be telling a story from the era of the sorely missed forensic interview – two giants of their time locking horns to determine the future of Britain.”

Harriet said: “I have to travel a great distance to reach Maggie Thatcher but with James’s brilliant script, Stephen Frears to guide me and Steve Coogan to accompany me I have the dream team to help me achieve it.”
