Inside the life of Anna Richardson’s dad Canon Jim Richardson who lives with vascular dementia
CANON Jim Richardson is the father of Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson.
The star has opened up about her father’s vascular dementia diagnosis in her documentary Anna Richardson: Love, Loss & Demention.
The episode will air at 10pm on Channel 4 and will reveal details about the beloved TV presenter’s life with her father.
Here’s everything you need to know about Canon Jim Richardson.
Anna’s dad
Canon Jim Richardson had Anna with his wife, Janet, in 1970.
At the time, the couple lived in Great Brighton, Northamptonshire.
Though the TV presenter is known for scandalous shows, including Naked Attraction and The Sex Education show, both her parents were very involved in religion.
Life as a vicar
Jim Richardson has spent much of his life working as a Vicar in Great Brighton.
He was a prominent member of his community and also worked as a canon pastor at Sherborne Abbey in Dorset.
Anna did say, however, that she feels that working so hard is partly to blame for his dementia.
She told the Express: “When dad was working – and he devoted his life to the church – he was very stressed.
“He was extremely busy.
“He was eating on the run.
“He never exercised.
“He enjoyed a drink in the parish, he had diabetes, and he was carrying a bit too much weight.
“And an awful lot of people in this country currently struggle with all these things, which all contributed to dad’s vascular dementia.”
Jim’s dementia diagnosis
Jim was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2018, which causes patients to have “mini-strokes”.
These strokes lead to cognitive decline, which can cause confusion and memory loss.
Jim is now living alone in sheltered accommodation, but is still near to his family in Staffordshire.
Anna opened up about her father saying to her: “When I die, I’m going to the company of angels.”
She added that making the film has made her feel closer to her father.
Is it ageing or dementia?
Dementia – the most common form of which is Alzheimer’s – comes on slowly over time.
As the disease progresses, symptoms can become more severe.
But at the beginning, the symptoms can be subtle or mistaken for normal memory issues related to ageing.
The US National Institute on Aging gives some examples of what is considered normal forgetfulness in old age, and dementia disease.
You can refer to these above.
For example, it is normal for an ageing person to forget which word to use from time-to-time, but difficulting having conversation would be more indicative of dementia.
Katie Puckering, Head of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Information Services team, previously told The Sun: “We quite commonly as humans put our car keys somewhere out of the ordinary and it takes longer for us to find them.
“As you get older, it takes longer for you to recall, or you really have to think; What was I doing? Where was I? What distracted me? Was it that I had to let the dog out? And then you find the keys by the back door.
“That process of retrieving the information is just a bit slower in people as they age.
“In dementia, someone may not be able to recall that information and what they did when they came into the house.
“What may also happen is they might put it somewhere it really doesn’t belong. For example, rather than putting the milk back in the fridge, they put the kettle in the fridge.”

My wife went round to thank the neighbours for trimming tree then found out they’re SWINGERS – now she’s interested too
THEY’RE right next door and the people who you live the closest to – but just how well do you REALLY know your neighbours?
They could be the next model, an aspiring chef… or swingers – which is exactly what one man recently discovered.
The unnamed man came to the shocking discovery after his wife dropped off some cookies to the couple living next to them – and the seemingly sweet and innocent visit turned into something totally different.
According to the husband, his partner surprised the neighbours with the sweet gesture after ”they very politely trimmed back some trees” that were on their property.
Unbeknownst to the loyal hubby, who was hanging out with a pal playing board games, the wife ended up staying at the couple’s place for several hours.
”She was texting me telling me how cool the wife was, how she was a lot of fun,” he said.
After returning home, she started spilling beans about what really took place – leaving the man in total disbelief.
”She was telling me about them, and apparently the neighbor’s wife came on to my wife!
”My wife didn’t want to give me specific details but she said it was VERY obvious,” he shared the story on Reddit.
”So I guess she found out that the neighbors are swingers, and the wife thinks my wife would be fun to mess around with.”
The stunned man went on: ”I’ve seen the neighbor’s wife and she’s pretty hot, however, this completely mind fucks me and I in no way want to have another dude banging my wife.”
Unsure how to react – or to move forward with the bombshell news – the anonymous man sought advice on the popular forum.
”I guess I just need some help processing this, given that my wife and the neighbor woman seem to be hitting it off in terms of friendship, so this pressure may come up again.
”WTF do I do?”
The post received a mixed bag of responses – whilst some encouraged him ”to give it a try”, others reckoned he’d found himself in a ”bad, bad situation”.
One, for instance, thought the racy swinger duo had no respect for his wife – or him.
Five signs your neighbour’s a swinger
How well do you REALLY know your neighbours?
From a gravelled driveway to a fruity knocker on the door, here’s what to look for if you think the people next door might be kinky swingers.
- Pampas grass,
- White graven on the driveway,
- Pineapple door knob,
- Garden gnomes,
- Hot tubs.
”I think you should explain to her that you feel that sexual relations with other people are considered cheating and (possibly) you feel disrespected that this PERSON (don’t mention girl), this PERSON treated her as if she were single,” wrote one.
”She didn’t respect your wife as a married person which means she doesn’t respect HER, and certainly not you.”
Someone else echoed the sentiment, adding: ”The thing is, would your wife really like the idea of you being with the “other wife”? I don’t think so.
”But in that way you can at least tell her that if she wouldn’t like you fooling around with another woman how can she expect you to be okay with it…”
However, there were also plenty of those fellow Redditors who thought there was no harm in joining the kinky couple.
One said: ” Maybe you guys will try it, but not like it and that’ll be the end of it.
”Maybe it can be a new lifestyle for you two. At least I would discuss it with my wife, especially since she seems interested too.”
Another quipped, urging the couple to ”set ground rules”, so there’s ”no hardship”.
”Discuss it with your wife and the neighbours. If they truly are swingers then they will understand and respect and even expect a set of rules prior to doing anything.”
