Line of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin reveals bizarre food phobia & requests other actors keep items off set

ACTRESS Anna Maxwell Martin says she has a bizarre sandwich phobia and has to ask other actors to keep them off set.

The Line of Duty star says her fear may be linked to her hatred of mayonnaise, and she also cannot bear to be near an open fridge.

Anna, 47, said: “I think I’ve got phobic food issues.

“Not in the room, not in the house. If I’m on a set and sandwiches are brought on — it’s hard for me to even say that word — I’d have to say ‘get that out’.

“Sorry other actors, you’re not eating. Or if you want to eat, step outside. But not in here.”

Anna thinks her problems stem from her pregnancies with her two daughters.

She said: “I think there is a trauma. It’s not about sandwiches, but I was sick all through my pregnancies. Sick, sick, sick as a dog. So now I also have a problem with fridges as well.

“Oh my God, I can open a fridge and be like ‘not for me, not staying here, not eating here’.

“Someone was saying to me the other day that she doesn’t like the sound of chewing gum or the sound of things and she said maybe you have a similar thing about foods.

“I was on a train yesterday with sandwiches and it was a nightmare.”

Ford Kuga is a cavernous family SUV packed with power…but the blizzard of safety warnings while driving gets a bit much

“NICE colour, that!”

The “bursting green” hue of the Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid I’m driving has just been given what could be the greatest colour-based compliment yet.

You can motor along with 243hp under your right foot, accelerating from 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds[/caption]

Because the man who said it literally stares at cars for a living – he works for DFDS Ferry in Dover.

Good start to the test. And I agree.

So: Colour – gold star.

Of course, what colour your car is means bugger all when it comes to its performance and suitability for taking a family of four to France.

So is the rest of it any good?

The answer is a resounding yes. The first plus point is it’s a beautifully designed Tardis of a vehicle.

Outside it looks like the compact family SUV it is billed as – like the Nissan Qashqai or the Volkswagen Tiguan – but inside it is simply cavernous.

From a surprisingly high-up driving position you can motor along with 243hp under your right foot, accelerating from 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds.

The petrol/electric plug-in hybrid combo averaged 45mpg on test, not far off the official 52.3mpg which, as we know, is conducted in a lab.

You are supposed to get 42 miles of pure electric driving when the battery is fully charged.

The reality is around ten per cent less.

Another plus point is all the anti-crash kit.

This is one of the safest cars I have experienced – almost too cautious at times.

Indeed, if there is a downside to this car it is that you cannot drive it anywhere without getting short shrift from the safety warnings.

Take a rest, stay in your lane, hands on the wheel (Oi, PROPERLY!!) . . . the list of infractions is long and it can get a little much.

This is one of the safest cars I have experienced

I popped to the boulangerie one morning and was told to take a rest from driving – it was a five-minute journey.

Kuga has a blizzard of safety tech, including blind-spot indicators, steering assist, parking assist and the most aggressive lane assist in Christendom.

But I suppose it is churlish to complain about something that is trying to avoid you having an accident.

After all, no matter how gorgeous the £800 paint job, it alone won’t save your life.

Key facts: FORD KUGA

  • Price: £40,955
  • Engine: 2.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid
  • Power: 243hp
  • 0-62mph: 7.3 secs
  • Top speed: 125mph
  • Economy: 52mpg
  • EV range: 42 miles
  • CO2: 21g/km

Shoreham air disaster pilot Andrew Hill is not fit to fly again, claim experts

Mr Hill is appealing a decision to revoke his flying licence after 11 people died when his vintage plane crashed on a dual carriageway in 2015[/caption]

He is appealing a decision to revoke his flying licence after 11 people died when his vintage plane crashed on a dual carriageway in a failed stunt above West Sussex air show crowds in 2015.

The CAA’s David McCorquodale, who made the decision, told the hearing: “(His flying) was so appallingly bad, it was incompetence, ignorance.

“I was no longer satisfied he was a fit and proper person to hold those licences.”

Julie Smith, who lost her son Richard, 26, in the tragedy said: “The main thing for Mr Hill is he has never accepted any responsibility or shown any remorse.”

Former BA pilot Mr Hill, 60, was cleared of manslaughter after a trial in 2019.

An inquest determined the victims had been unlawfully killed.

He told the CAA panel: “I cannot say I am more sorry than I am.

“I just don’t understand what happened on that day.”

The central London hearing continues.

It’s comically absurd for Iran to bombard Israel with 181 missiles then say it considers the matter closed

End this evil

HOW comically absurd for Iran to bombard Israel with 181 missiles, then say it now considers the matter closed.

It is very far from it.

All senior figures in Tehran’s terror regime should be sleeping with one eye open.

Israel’s assassinations of Hezbollah’s entire high command and the unprecedented pager-bomb attacks on its fighters show it can target almost any enemy in the Middle East with ruthless precision.

It also has the power and reach to attack Iran’s nuclear and oil facilities, crippling it economically.

And retaliation for Iran’s latest barrage — repelled, miraculously, without a single Israeli casualty — is both inevitable and entirely justified.

This malignant Islamist terror state cannot be allowed to believe it can rain bombs on Israel with impunity.

Israel has been under siege from Iran’s proxy armies Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis far too long. Now it is directly in Iran’s firing line.

If Tel Aviv opts to cut the head off the snake, so be it.

Who could blame them, other than Western extremists who would stand alongside genuine evil to attack the Jews they despise?

Neither Britain nor America should be squeamish.

We may have differences with the Netanyahu government — indeed Labour wrongly chose to suspend some arms export licences to Israel last month.

But we should now be backing the region’s only liberal democracy all the way.

Imagine a world without Tehran’s mad mullahs spreading their poison.

An Iranian people liberated from the Islamist tyranny most of them detest. A Lebanon free of the parasite army Hezbollah.

It’s a distant dream, and achieving it fraught with risk . . . but Israel could yet set it in motion.

“This is the greatest opportunity in 50 years to change the face of the Middle East,” says former Israel prime minister Naftali Bennett.

We cannot see Iran or Hezbollah honouring any negotiated UN settlement.

So what alternative is there for an Israel under attack from all sides?

Fuel fears

THE lowest fuel prices in months won’t last long if Iran’s refineries go up in smoke.

Indeed the cost of oil is already climbing due to the threat of all-out war.

Imagine, then, if they have shot back up by Budget day — and Chancellor Rachel Reeves slaps ANOTHER 5p or more on a litre by ending the fuel duty freeze brought about by The Sun’s 14-year Keep It Down campaign.

No matter how desperate they are for our cash, Labour — their poll ratings already tanking — cannot be that daft.

‘We are MAD’ – Ten Hag tells raging Man Utd flops to channel anger of Tottenham humiliation into must-win Porto clash

ERIK TEN HAG reckons his raging Manchester United players will be ready to unleash their frustration against Porto.

United boss Ten Hag is fighting to save his job following Sunday’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Spurs.

Manchester United were thrashed 3-0 by Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday[/caption]

The Dutchman, who has seen Bruno Fernandes’ red card overturned, said: “As always, when we are not winning, we are very disappointed and we are also mad. Mad with ourselves and especially when you lose a game like Sunday.

“When you have to play for such a long time with 10 players and after the red card is overturned, that gives you frustration because to play with 10 men is of course never in your advantage.

“It had a real impact on the game but you have to deal with it. We are mad and from the madness we have to get motivation and go onto the next game.”

Ten Hag could face the sack if United lose in the Europa League in Portugal and also suffer a bad result against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Asked why the team is lacking belief against Spurs, Ten Hag said: “I think on Sunday, they were lacking belief but I have seen so many games where they have been confident. Against City in the FA Cup final and in the Community Shield.

“Against Porto, we face a big challenge and we know what the atmosphere will be like. They are a good team with good players who defend aggressively and know how to get the right result.”

Yet Ten Hag, who will be without Mason Mount on Thursday night after he suffered a head injury, claims he is not panicking.

He said: “Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about because I experienced it so often with my teams during seasons that you are facing those problems.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

“So, we can sort them out, this team can sort this out. When it’s in an individual area, we can sort those problems out.”

Asked if he will be sacked if these next two matches go badly, he said: “I’m not thinking about this. I’m not anxious as well.”

Man Utd ratings vs Tottenham

MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a 3-0 thrashing against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half for fouling James Maddison, forcing Erik Ten Hag’s side to play with 10 men against Ange Postecoglou’s team.

After back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and FC Twente fans hoped United would redeem themselves against Spurs.

However, the match at Old Trafford quickly turned sour. Brennan Johnson scored early and things worsened when Fernandes was sent off allowing Spurs to extend their lead to 3-0.

And here is how SunSports Charlie Wyett rated the Manchester United stars.

Andre Onana – 5

Stood his ground to deliver a good save from Timo Werner who was clean through – no chance for either goal.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

First in the refs’ book for chopping down Destiny Udogie. Could also have blocked Micky van de Ven for the goal. Just watched Solanke make it 3-0.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4

Shocking first half. Failed to cut out the cross from Micky van de Ven which led to the first goal.

Lisandro Martinez – 5

Switched off for the Spurs goal and was drawn to the ball and Johnson was left unmarked.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Gave the ball away in dangerous areas and struggled against Johnson.

Manuel Ugarte – 5

Suffered a stinker and was lucky to last until the 73rd minute.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5

Not one of his better performances and was taken off just before half-time following Fernandes’ sending-off.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Over-ran the ball for Tottenham’s first. Way off the pace.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

Arguably the worst captain in United’s history. Deserved red card for his challenge on James Maddison.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6

Had United’s only chance in the first half but hit the outside of the post. Improved in the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

Looked completely lost up front – threatening to be another poor Erik ten Hag signing. Replaced at half-time.

Subs:

Mount (for Mainoo 45)  5, Casemiro (for Zirkzee 46) 7, Hojlund (for Rashford 73) 5, Eriksen (for Ugarte 73) 5.

Porto boss Vitor Bruno claims he is expecting a tough battle.

Asked about Ten Hag, he said: “I’ve heard a lot of people saying that he was coming with a rope around his neck but it would be a huge mistake to underestimate them.

“We are talking about world-class players. If you tell a different story, it doesn’t relate to the truth.

“Any club has problems but we have to be on our toes and very alert. It’s going to be very hard. Utd are 13th in the Premier League but let’s see how things turn out.

Ten Hag admitted ‘we are mad’ ahead of their Europa League clash on Thursday night[/caption]

“We are talking about amazing, exciting players. Maybe they are not having their best moment, but we have to know where the danger is coming from and have the right state of mind.

“I haven’t met him (Ten Hag) yet, but I would love to. In Portugal, if you lose one match you are almost dead.

“There is a coach here, (Carlos) Carvahal who was in the Premier League and the Championship.

“He says in England the coaches have a glass of wine together after the match. If Ten Hag wants, the dressing-room is open for him.”
