Major supermarket slashes price of Quality Street, Heroes & Celebrations – it’s not Tesco and they’re cheapest around

A MAJOR supermarket has slashed the price of chocolates in the lead up to the festive season.

Cadbury’s Heroes are also included in the promotion[/caption]

Morrisons has introduced a two for £8 deal across its popular Christmas chocolate tubs.

Quality Street (600g), Celebrations (550g), Cadbury Heroes (550g) and Cadbury Roses (550g) are all part of the festive promotion.

Customers can make a purse-pleasing saving of 33 per cent on these household must-haves, which would otherwise cost £6 each without having a Morrisons More Card.

The offer is available in-store and online for one week only from October 2 – 8, so customers will need to be quick if they want to get their hands on these festive favourites.

Lee Mountain, Category Director of Impulse at Morrisons, said: “Tubs of chocolate are a must-have for the festive season with every family member having their own preferred sweet treat.

“Our deal allows customers to pick up two different options for just £8 to ensure everyone is happy – not just your pocket.

“It’s never too early to start stocking up and help spread the cost of Christmas celebrations.”

It comes as Quality Streets tubs have landed on shelves as the countdown to Christmas begins.

Usually, the octagonal tins don’t make an appearance on supermarket shelves until the winter months but recently they have started cropping up as early as July.

They can retail for up to £6 at most retailers but if you are savvy there are chances to nab them for a bargain.

Shoppers have noticed the pricey sweets for sale at supermarket Tesco.

“It’s that time of year to stock up,” wrote one bargain hunter in a social media post.

The UK’s biggest supermarket is running an offer where you can pick up a 600g tub of £3.95 but the offer is not available to everyone.

To cash in on the deal you will need to scan your Tesco Clubcard at the till otherwise you’ll have to pay £6.

This offers a saving of £2.05.

The loyalty scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop, which can be turned into money off food or other items.

Quality Street tubs are available to buy at a discount from Tesco supermarkets and online.

Asda

Supermarket Asda is also stocking Quality Street tubs, but they do not have any tubs on offer.

So if you buy from here you will have to pay the full price of £6.

When on the hunt for a bargain it is important to not only look at the retail price but the unit price as well.

Aldi

German discounter Aldi is also selling Quality Street tubs for £4.49.

They are only available to shop in-store so it is worth ringing up ahead of time to see what stock is available.

The tubs are £1.51 cheaper than what Asda and Tesco charge at full price.

When looking at the unit price, it comes in at 75p per 100g.

This is 25p cheaper than Asda’s but remains pricier than Tesco’s offer of 66p per 100g.

However, it is the second cheapest place to currently buy the sweets.

Sainsbury’s

The nation’s second-largest supermarket is also charging £6 for a 600g chocolate tub.

But there is a chance to nab a bargain.

If you have a Nectar Card you can pick up the tin for £4.50, offering a saving of £1.50.

If you take the unit price into account it works out at £1 per 100g if you pay full price.

Alternatively, it will cost 74p per 100g if you scan your loyalty card.

Tesco’s offer for Clubcard holders is still the cheapest by around 8p.

What other stores are selling Quality Street tubs?

A number of other supermarkets are selling tubs of Quality Street, but Tesco has continued to come out on top.

These include:

  • Morrisons – £6
  • Ocado – £5
  • Iceland – £6

Supermarkets tend to run offers on chocolate and other sweets in the run-up to Christmas so it is always worth keeping your eyes peeled.

Shopping around for the best bargain

When hunting for a deal it is important to shop around to make sure you are not being overcharged.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

For example, Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.

Price Spy also logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including ArgosAmazoneBay and the supermarkets.

Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.

How to save money on chocolate

WE all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed on flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

Moment Luke Littler grimaces as he realises epic darts fightback has gone up in smoke at last minute

LUKE LITTLER was left grimacing after realising his epic darts fightback had gone up in smoke.

The teenage sensation had looked set to complete a stunning turnaround at Players Championship 25 on Wednesday.

The Nuke could only look on as his epic fightback went up in smoke against Chris Dobey[/caption]

Littler faced Chris Dobey in the quarter-finals in Wigan but found himself 5-2 down in their race to six.

However, the Nuke battled back by winning three legs on the bounce to send it to a decider.

He even looked on course to win after leaving 170 before Dobey had got down to a finish.

The 17-year-old was unable to take out the ‘Big Fish’, though, and was punished by his opponent.

Hollywood secured a brilliant 150 checkout to clinch the leg and the match 6-5.

Littler’s reaction was caught on camera as he watched on from behind his opponent.

He could be seen grimacing as Dobey lined up his match-winning dart on double 18.

The youngster remained gracious in defeat, though, grinning as he walked forward to shake Dobey’s hand before the pair embraced.

Meanwhile, Dobey went on to win his third Players Championship event of the season, drawing level with Littler for the most wins.

He thrashed Daryl Gurney 7-1 in the last four before beating Stephen Bunting 8-3 in the final.

Inside Littler's massive rise

LUKE LITTLER has taken the darts world by storm since exploding onto the scene at the PDC World Championship at the beginning of the year.

The Nuke reached the final on his Ally Pally debut at just 16 years of age – smashing records along the way.

He has then gone on to win a host of PDC events and the Premier League title – which he claimed at the O2 Arena by beating world champion Luke Humphries in May.

He also finished his first season in the World Series as the No1 ranked player.

He has joined Jude Bellingham on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list.

And the teenage titan even had to snub an invite from the WWE.

The Sun exclusively revealed that Littler is plotting to create a fitness empire.

He is also cashing in away from the Oche thanks to an Instagram side hustle.

And he’s even the face of a brand new cereal.

But he is newly single after splitting from girlfriend Eloise Milburn following a 10-month relationship.

Check out all of our latest Luke Littler stories.

Littler will have another chance to win his fourth ProTour event of the year on Thursday.

His last Players Championship win came back in September, with that victory also coming in Wigan.

He will also be in action in Leicester this weekend at the World Grand Prix.

Littler faces fourth seed Rob Cross in the first round of the “Double in, Double out” tournament.

Where the millionaires holiday! The luxury hotels crowned best in the world – and one is in the UK

EVER wondered where the rich and famous stay on holiday? Well we’ve been given an insight into their absolute favourite hotels around the world and they are pretty spectacular.

Paces with the most unforgettable food, cutting-edge design, and immersive experiences have been awarded a place on Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Best Hotels list for 2024.

two people sit in a pool with a view of the ocean
The Lodge at Bodego Bay, California, came in at number one on the list
a very tall building sits on the shore of a body of water
The Ritz Carlton in Doha was second place
a large swimming pool with mountains in the background
Hermann Bungalows in Palm Springs was number three on the list
tables and chairs in a restaurant with a view of the water
The Thief Hotel in Oslo was number four on the list and the highest European entry

These are the top eight hotels on the list:

1. The Lodge at Bodego Bay, California

A relaxed hotel along California’s Sonoma coast, guests here like to take day trips to local vineyards and stroll the empty beaches.

The property came in for high praise for its ocean shell massages, signature breakfast sandwich and thoughtful details like a pair of binoculars in every room for guests to take in the ocean views.

2. The Ritz-Carlton, Doha

Qatar’s newish Ritz Carlton was number two on the list thanks to its sea view gym, indoor tennis courts and luxury hammam spa.

But also for the jaw-dropping flashiness in the interior, including the largest chandelier in the Middle East.

3. Hermann Bungalows, Palm Springs, California

This chic Mid Century ‘hotel within a hotel’ was described as being ultra-luxe and uber stylish.

The stunning resort in the desert also has mountain views while you’re lounging by the pool.

4. The Thief, Oslo

This chic hotel in the Norwegian capital was loved by guests for its super fancy taste in art, with pieces from heavyweights like Antony Gormley and Andy Warhol lining the rooms and corridors.

Also a highlight was the secret underground tunnel leading to the hotel’s gym and spa.

5. The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto

Clearly the Ritz Carlton knows how to impress guests – the second of the brand’s hotels on the list ended up there thanks to its exceptional views of the Kamogawa River and Higashiyama mountains.

It has its own Japanese Zen Garden, naturally, and is known for its extra touches like the handmade soaps and Imabari bathrobes.

Meanwhile in Britain…

From 1906 to 1964 the Raffles London at The OWO building served as the country’s War Office[/caption]

The first London hotel to make the cut was Raffles London at The OWO – one of the most talked about hotels in London this century, according to Conde Naste Traveler.

From 1906 to 1964 the hotel’s building served as the War Office where D-Day was planned.

Influential political and military leaders of the time walked the corridors, and spies, notoriously, had their own entrance.

In 2016, Mumbai-based Hinduja Group purchased the building’s lease and invested almost £1.6 billion in refurbishments. They also brought Raffles on board.

Refurbishments took seven years, but there’s now 120 rooms and suites, four restaurants, three bars, a Guerlain spa, and a 65-foot subterranean pool.

State offices have now become suites, which all honour the building’s Edwardian heritage.

Rooms are adorned with marble fireplaces, chandeliers and geometric carpets.

The Haldane Suite used to be Churchill’s former office.

Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco heads up three of the restaurants – one for fine dining, one with a private table option, and Saison by Mauro Colagreco, which is a space that offers Mediterranean cuisine.

The Guard’s Bar, the hotel’s main bar, offers sixteen signature drinks that pay homage to British ingredients, local producers or international influences in a nod to the Raffles locations found across the globe.

There’s also a tiny Spy Bar, which occupies old MI5 and MI6 interrogation rooms in the basement.

Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, was a regular visitor to the Old War Office building, which is where he conjured the idea for 007.

The Spy Bar is located in two rooms that were numbered 006 and 007 in the early 20th century.

They acted as high security storage vaults for identity papers and mission reports of MI5 and MI6 agents.

Guests can head to the speakeasy-style bar for a nightcap and to marvel at an Aston Martin DB5 mounted on the wall.

It seems there’s a price for luxury, as room rates at the hotel don’t come cheap.

For a one night stay in a room for two adults, you’re looking to pay around just shy of £3,500.
