Are Celebrity Big Brother contestants paid?

BIG BROTHER is set to return this weekend and viewers will be shocked to learn how little housemates are paid to appear on the show, compared to celebrity contestants.

The civilian BB contestants enter the Big Brother house on Sunday, October 6 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Are Big Brother contestants paid?

The Big Brother housemates do indeed get paid for appearing on the show.

The exact amount that ITV pay their contestants, has been kept a secret.

Big Brother give you a little bit to help you, they do give you a subsidy. It’s not a lot but they do help you.

Big Brother 15 star Mark Byron

But we do know that Channel 5 paid their housemates £50 a day.

Big Brother 15 star Mark Byron said the showrunners help housemates by offering a small cash sum to tie them over with bills in the outside world while they’re in the house.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo he said: “They give you a little bit to help you, they do give you a subsidy.

“I think, when I was on, it was only something like £50. It’s not a lot but they do help you.

“It was like £50 for every day you’re in there which isn’t a lot but if you’re in there for 13 weeks it soon adds up.”

In the US, housemates are reportedly getting paid $1k each week, which amounts to £819 – so there is a big difference.

David Gest and Katie Price are among the highest paid celebrity contestants to ever appear on the show.

The prize money for winning Big Brother is a whopping £100K, but there is no cash prize on Celebrity Big Brother.

Who won the last series of Big Brother?

In 2023, ITV revived the iconic reality TV show after Channel 5 axed it in 2018.

After a tense final, Jordan won ITV’s first ever Big Brother and walked away with a whopping £100,000 after fending off competition from HenryNokyOlivia and Yinrun.

And the first words out of his mouth after his name was called out by hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best summed him up perfectly.

“I can now pay my council tax,” Jordan quipped, ever so dryly.

Live streaming will return to give viewers 24hour footage of the housemates[/caption]

Olivia finished the series in second place, Henry in third, Yinrun fourth, and Noky in fifth.

For the first return of Celebrity Big Brother in March 2024, David Potts was crowned the winner.

When does Big Brother start?

Big Brother returns on Sunday, October 6 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

After this the show will air daily at 9pm on ITV2.

The reality series will be followed each night by Celebrity Big Brother: Late & Live – giving viewers additional exclusive content.

The Live Stream is also making a comeback, airing seven nights a week on ITVX.

This will give fans the opportunity to watch live footage into the small hours after Late & Live.

Celebrity Big Brother sees a line-up of stars leave their life of luxury behind.

Like the original BB, they will take part in nominations and tough tasks with cameras capturing their every move.

The civilian series of BB will be co-hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best.

Watch the awkward moment MAFS UK’s new bride reveals she’s ‘got the ick’ just SECONDS after they tie the knot

ONE of the new MAFS UK’s new brides admits she’s ‘got the ick’ with her husband just SECONDS after they tie the knot.

Viewers of the E4 show will see Luke and Amy say ‘I Do’ during this evening’s instalment of the programme.

Luke was happy with his new wife[/caption]

At the end of last night’s instalment, fans were treated to a sneak peek of their big day.

Luke looks very happy with his new wife as he spots her walking down the aisle and can’t help but show her his affection.

During their photo shoot, he kisses her on the hand and says: “Hello baby.”

But speaking to camera, Amy says: “It’s giving me the ick a little bit.”

Every series two couples join the experiment and get married shortly after meeting.

Blackburn lass Amy is one of the 2024 “intruder brides”.

The wedding coordinator has swapped her 9-5 to the person who is actually getting married.

Before tying the knot, she confessed that she wants a “tall man who’s a gentleman”.

She added: “I hoping they’ll help me find someone who I can truly fall in love with.”

Her husband is Luke from Kent.

He works as a prison worker day to day, but also does night club work in the evening.

During his VT he made a shocking sex confession.

He said: “The most embarrassing thing I’ve done in the bedroom is I’ve offered an unsolicited and unwanted butt plug…

“Which quickly made its way back into the box.”

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

Despite that, he does have a more sensitive side.

He added: “On my wedding day I’ll be most nervous about meeting her family.”

New MAFS couples

  • Amy and Luke

The pair tie the knot on tonight’s episode of the show.

  • Hannah and Ryan

Viewers are yet to see the two say I Do.

Next Man Utd manager: Five favourites to replace Erik ten Hag including Gareth Southgate and Old Trafford legend

JUST nine games since being handed an improved contract, Erik ten Hag is back under immense pressure.

The boss was on the brink of the sack for much of last season after the club crashed out the Champions League in the group stages and finished in their lowest ever Premier League position of eighth.

But the Dutchman saved his job by winning the FA Cup and was then given the vote of confidence by Sir Jim Ratcllife despite initial talks with other managers.

Yet Man Utd’s disastrous start to the season has led to calls for Ten Hag to be axed.

A woeful display in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham means he reportedly has clashes with Porto and Aston Villa to save his job.

Should the Red Devils lose both, the club could then be on the lookout for their sixth permanent boss since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

SunSport take a look at the bookies’ five favourites to replace Ten Hag.

Gareth Southgate

Southgate has been heavily linked with the United job in the past and is currently unemployed after resigning as England boss after Euro 2024 heartbreak.

United sporting director Dan Ashworth used to work at the FA and was given the job of creating an “England DNA” across the senior and youth sides in 2012.

A year later, he was part of the group that appointed Southgate as Under-21s boss and then gave him a promotion to Three Lions gaffer in 2016.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

Southgate has experience of working with United stars like Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford.

And he would make the Red Devils far more defensively solid, with them currently way too easy to carve open.

Odds: 5/2

Ruud van Nistelrooy

The former Man Utd striker was appointed Ten Hag’s assistant in the summer but has so far seemingly been unable to install his ideas on the squad.

Van Nistelrooy is an experienced coach, having worked with the Dutch national team and PSV youth sides.

He managed the PSV senior side during the 2022/23 season and led them to domestic cup glory and a second place finish.

However, he surprisingly quit the club over a lack of support.

Van Nistelrooy could have a chance to stake his claim as United boss should he land the role on an interim basis if Ten Hag is axed.

Odds: 2/1

Thomas Tuchel

Tuchel is a world-class manager and boasts an impressive CV.

He has Premier League experience with Chelsea, winning the Champions League with them in 2021, and he has won the title at PSG and Bayern Munich.

Tuchel landed his last two jobs mid-season and quickly established a tactical identity before leading them to a trophy later that season.

Man Utd had face-to-face talks with the German over the summer and he appeared to be their number one target.

But Tuchel turned down the job as he wanted time away from management.

With him now feeling refreshed, Ratcliffe could try to pick up talks from where they left of.

Odds: 6/1

Graham Potter

Potter has been out of work since his sacking by Chelsea in April 2023 and he has declined offers to return to the dugout.

He has been biding his time, with some believing he is holding out for the Man Utd or England job.

Potter struggled to cope with Chelsea’s bloated squad and was sacked after just seven months in charge.

But it was his stunning work at Brighton that got him recognition, developing the sort of clear style of play that Ten Hag has been unable to implement in his three years at Old Trafford.

Potter built Brighton’s identity with chief Ashworth and the pair could be keen on reuniting.

Asked about a return to football on Sky Sports on Monday, he revealed: “I have had lots of conversations with lots of people and I think out of respect to those people it’s best those are kept private.”

Odds: 14/1

Kieran McKenna

Just seven years ago, McKenna was guiding United’s Under-18s to Premier League glory and here he is linked with the first-team job.

After his success with the kids, he was promoted to senior coach and the Northern Irishman formed part of the setup under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

He left when Ten Hag came in and in the mean time has transformed Ipswich, taking them from League One to the Premier League with a bold attacking style of play.

His rise up the coaching ranks has been phenomenal and a return to Old Trafford could complete his remarkable journey.

McKenna signed a four-year deal at Ipswich in the summer and he would not be blamed for wanting to stay loyal and focus on keeping the Tractor Boys in the Prem.

Odds: 14/1

Bank payments could be delayed by FOUR days under new anti-fraud rules coming in this month

BANK payments for millions of customers could be paused by up to four days as part of a crackdown on fraudsters.

Banks and building societies currently have up to the end of the next business day to process or decline a transfer.

Banks will have new powers to delay payments for up to four days[/caption]

But under new Government legislation coming into effect at the end of the month, this will be extended by an extra 72 hours.

It will give banks more time to investigate potentially fraudulent activity that can see customers scammed out of their hard-earned cash.

It comes as Government figures reveal an estimated £460million was lost to fraud just last year.

Tulip Siddiq, economic secretary to the Treasury, said: “Hundreds of millions of pounds are lost to scammers each year, targeting vulnerable communities and ruining the lives of ordinary people.

“We need to protect these people better, which is why we are giving banks more time to investigate suspicious payments and break the criminal spell that scammers weave.”

The new law will better protect a growing number of vulnerable customers targeted by purchase and “romance” scams.

These scams see victims targeted and tricked into transferring large amounts of money.

Ben Donaldson, UK Finance managing director of economic crime, said it was “delighted” to see the new legislation put forward.

He added: “This could allow payment service providers time to get in touch with customers and give them the advice and support they need to avoid being coerced by the criminals who want to steal their money.

“This could potentially limit the psychological harms that these awful crimes can cause and stop money getting into the hands of criminals.”

Under the new rules, banks who believe a customer could be scammed will need to tell them if their payment is being delayed.

They will also have to explain to the customer what they need to do to unblock any payments and compensate them for any interest or late payment fees they receive because of any delays.

Rocio Concha, director of policy and advocacy from Which?, said the new law was a “positive step in the fight against fraud”.

“While it should not affect the vast majority of everyday payments, it’s important that banks can delay a bank transfer and take action if they think a customer is being targeted by a scam.”

The new rules on extending the time banks have to investigate fraudulent transfers will come in just weeks after the introduction of a fresh scheme on fraud compensation.

UK banks currently don’t have to compensate customers who have been scammed out of money.

However, from next Monday (October 7), refunds up to a cap of £85,000 will become compulsory.

Nicola Bannister, customer support direct at TSB, said the bank welcomed the new rules coming into force.

She added: “Social media and telephone companies must now work tirelessly to cut fraud off at source and protect their users from scam content.”

How to protect yourself from fraud

While the Government’s new law will go some way to protecting customers from being scammed, there are other steps you can take to avoid being conned out of cash, according to Action Fraud.

First, never give out any personal information including your name, address, bank details, email or phone number, to organisations before checking they are legitimate.

And always think twice when receiving an unsolicited call, text or email requesting these types of details.

Instead, contact the company directly using a known email or phone number.

Second, make sure your computer, laptop and phone has up-to-date anti-virus software installed which will block any malware.

Third, always keep an eye out for phishing emails or texts which pretend to be legitimate but are designed to steal your personal information.

These messages usually come with a link which, if clicked on, can see your personal information including bank details stolen.

Fourth, be wary of post, phone calls or emails offering you business deals out of the blue.

If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is, so always question it.

Who to contact if you've been defrauded

If you think you’ve fallen for a scam, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 1123 2040.

You can also contact Action Fraud by using its online tool found via https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime.

Once you’ve done this, your report will be sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) which is part of the City of London police.

Man Utd fans furious at ‘grim’ realisation how far Aston Villa have come while they’ve gone backwards under Erik ten Hag

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are currently lamenting the club’s continued woes following last weekend’s battering by Tottenham.

And Red Devils supporters were left licking their already gaping wounds on Wednesday night – despite the fact the team didn’t even play.

Erik ten Hag and Unai Emery have been at United and Villa for nearly the same time but their fortunes have drastically differed[/caption]

High-flying Aston Villa inflicted fresh pain on the Old Trafford faithful in their second outing in Europe’s elite club competition since 1983.

The Villans record a famous 1-0 win over German giants Bayern Munich thanks to a sensational second-half strike from Jhon Duran.

Their downing of Bayern – which will go down in club history – is so far, the pinnacle of Unai Emery‘s reign at Villa Park.

And it’s capped off a remarkable turnaround from the Spaniard, who arrived with the club in tatters.

In just two years, Emery has taken Villa from the brink of relegation to matches against some of Europe’s elite.

And the success he’s brought hasn’t gone unnoticed by United fans, many of whom believe the club has gone BACKWARDS during Ten Hag’s reign.

Several took to X to lament the Ten Hag era, which began a mere six months before Emery took charge of Villa.

One frustrated supporter wrote: “Gerrard had Villa in the relegation zone and they sacked and replaced him with Emery 3 months into ten Hag being at United.

How Unai Emery has transformed Aston Villa

By Graeme Bryce

ASTON VILLA suspected they were on to a winner when they enticed four-times Europa League king Unai Emery away from Villarreal in October 2022.

They will certainly never bag a bigger bargain than the £5.2million compensation fee they paid the La Liga side for their Spanish tactical genius.

Emery started the way he meant to continue at Villa, ironically beating Sunday’s opponents Manchester United 3-1 on his debut – to record Villa’s first home Premier League victory over United since August 1995!

And he has continued smashing records and setting new standards ever since, culminating in Wednesday’s incredible win over six-times European champions Bayern Munich.

Emery credits his Basque upbringing for his workaholic nature and he is first into Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training base before 8am every morning – and he is usually the last there, switching the lights off when he leaves around 9pm most nights.

A Villa insider once summed it up by saying: “It’s not unusual for managers to spend long hours at the training ground, chatting to staff, having cups of coffee. Unai is different, he doesn’t do down-time, it’s full on work-mode from the minute he arrives to the minute he leaves.”

On away trips Emery opens his laptop as soon as he boards the team coach and starts analysing his own team’s performance as well as the opposition.

“He will watch all of our games seven or eight times and does the same for our opponents,” says Villa’s Director of Football Operations, Damian Vidagany – one of 23 Spaniards Emery has taken with him to Villa, including the world-famous transfer guru Monchi.

Emery trusts Monchi to supply the talent he needs from £50million record signing Amadou Onana to £8million bargain-buy Morgan Rogers and then he improves them beyond recognition.

Lesser managers would have written hotheaded hitman Jhon Duran off as a troublemaker – cut their losses and flogged him this summer after a series of high-profile PR gaffes.

But Emery was cold and clinical and asked himself one question – does the kid have any worth to me? Once he decided he did, he put an arm round the youngster and talked him through how he would transform him into one of the world’s great strikers.

Now the smile is back on Duran’s face, never more so than after his stunning winner against Bayern, which underlined Emery’s extraordinary man-management skills.

Training is meticulous and repetitive until players get the drill with the aid of constant video reminders, both collectively and individually, while his army of coaches work tirelessly on improving individual players’ skill-sets and game intelligence with tailor-made sessions.

Against Bayern Emery not only set Villa up brilliantly defensively to frustrate the Bavarian giants, who failed to score for the first time this season.

He also hammered home over and over again verbally and visually with video clips, Manuel Neuer’s tendency to stray miles off his goal line in his sweeper-keeper role.

Jhon Duran’s first-time finish to send the ball soaring over a stranded Neuer was pure genius – but the seed to try such an outrageous attempt was planted in his head by another genius.

Take a bow, Unai Emery!

“Today Villa, are playing Bayern in the Champions League and I’m still seeing ten Hag quotes bragging about winning an FA Cup & Carabao Cup. Grim.”

Another said: “Ineos are not serious. United hierarchy is not serious.

“Why this j***water is still at post baffles me and he’s talking loftily.”

And another said: “A good manager vs a bad one.

“A bad one always have excuses while a good one uses what he have.”

One remarked: “Emery is in an insane coach.”

Last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham has ramped up the pressure on Ten Hag, who remains bullish on the prospect of being given his marching orders.

He told Sky Sports: “We are going to make a success from the season.

“Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about.

a bald man with a beard is speaking into a microphone
GETTY
Erik ten Hag is confident he turn Manchester United’s fortunes around[/caption]

“We can sort [the problems] out, this team can sort this out.”

When asked if he’s fearing the sack, the defiant Dutchman said: “I’m not thinking about it, I’m not anxious.

“We created a togetherness in the summer with the ownership and the leadership.

“We made this agreement, and we were all behind it.

“We know the strategy [is to bring in] young players in a transition period.

“They also know in May in all my last six seasons there were always trophies and that is what we are aiming for.”

Ten Hag will be hoping his troops will be able to alleviate some of the pressure on his shoulders tonight when they face Porto in their second Europa League outing of the season.
