How Michael Schumacher’s ‘best friend’ was cut out of his life after ski crash & has ‘no hope’ of seeing him again

MICHAEL Schumacher’s ex-manager and former close pal has been left shut out from the Formula One legend’s life ever since his horror ski crash.

Willi Weber is often credited with discovering a young Schumacher and kick-starting his iconic career but he now admits he fears he’ll never be able to see Michael again.

Schumacher, 54, considered by many as the greatest driver in F1 historyhasn’t been seen in public since a devastating skiing accident in 2013.

Ever since, any information about the state of his health has been a closely-guarded secret.

His long-term wife Corinna has even created a so called inner circle made up of a selective group of Schumacher’s family and closest friends.

Weber was one of those excluded from Corinna’s handpicked pals with him being barred from knowing how his old friend is doing.

Corinna has been forced to create the private group to avoid rumours spreading or any private information leaking out.

Weber, 82, revealed he has received “no positive news” for the last 10 years.

Michael was one of my best friends, more like a son that I never had. Nobody knows exactly what’s going on with him today

Willi Weber

Telling Cologne Express: “When I think of Michael now, unfortunately I don’t have anymore hope that I will see him again.”

He also recalled how gutted he felt about not being able to see Schumacher in the months following the accident.

“Of course, I regret that very much and blame myself. I should have visited Michael in the hospital. I mourned like a dog after his accident,” he said.

Last month, Weber spoke to German newspaper Bild about his relationship with Schumacher.

He said: “Michael was one of my best friends, more like a son that I never had. Nobody knows exactly what’s going on with him today.”

Weber has been pushed further away from ever seeing Schumacher after he was critical in the press about the family.

He accused them of not being honest to the public about the Schumacher’s condition.

Weber said: “I find it very unfortunate that Michael’s fans do not know about his health. Why are they not being told the truth?”

His remarks continued in July 2022, where Weber once again made headlines by demanding the Schumacher family come out with the truth about his health.

He said he was still “angry” that he had not been kept informed once since the F1 legend’s ski accident.

He told Italian sports publication La Gazetta dello Sport: “I tried hundreds of times to contact Corinna and she didn’t answer.

“They kept me out, telling me it’s too early, well now it’s too late. It’s been nine years. Maybe they should just say it the way it is.”

Weber has been critical of Michael’s family in the years since his accident[/caption]

Weber considered himself a close friend of the family after managing both Michael and his brother Ralf when they first entered the Motorsport scene.

Despite these close ties Weber wasn’t one of the extended family and friends invited to the wedding of Michael’s daughter Gina, 27, earlier this year.

Michael is believed to have appeared for the first time among people outside of inner circle at the ceremony in Spain.

Gina and Iain Bethke tied the knot in Majorca, at the family’s luxury villa, near the upmarket resort of Port d’Andratx.

Schumacher’s attendance has never been confirmed by the family but reports claim he was at the event.

All guests were told to leave their mobile phones at the door with no media allowed near to the villa.

Speaking on the wedding Weber told Bild: “I wasn’t invited, but I wouldn’t have attended the wedding even if I had been invited.

“My health isn’t good at the moment. I wouldn’t have wanted to fly to Mallorca.”

THE INNER CIRCLE

Since 2013, Corinna has been creating a private world around Michael as he continues his recovery.

This includes forming a tight knit group of people allowed to see the icon and those who can’t due to fear of his private life being leaked.

Schumacher is said to have regular meetings with his former teammate Luca Badoer at Ferrari.

As well as his manager Sabine Kehm – who is arguably the closest non-family member to Michael both before and after the accident.

The third member of the circle is Jean Todt who has been close to Michael for over 30 years.

The pair reportedly still watch F1 races together but Todt has admitted in the past that the F1 legend “is no longer the Michael we knew” before the accident.

Michael’s close family such as his son Mick and daughter Gina are also inside the circle along with their partners Iain Bethke and Mick’s fiance Laila Hasanovic.

Ex-Ferrari ace and Michael’s teammate Felipe Massa – regarded as “Michael’s younger brother” – has also been allowed to see his old pal occasionally.

Corinna has also been forced to make the tough decision and cut certain people out of Michael’s life in recent years.

Some of these people include Weber, ex-teammate Rubens Barrichello and ex-F1 team boss Eddie Jordan.

What happened to Michael Schumacher?

MICHAEL Schumacher’s life was hanging by a thread 10-years-ago as medics tried desperately to keep him alive after a tragic skiing crash that left him with horrific brain injuries.

The F1 legend was given the best possible treatment as he was put into a medically induced coma, had his body temperature lowered and underwent hours of tricky operations on his brain.

Back in 2013, the retired seven-time world champion, and his then 14-year-old son set off on the Combe de Saulire ski run in the exclusive French resort of Meribel.

Footage from his helmet camera revealed he was not travelling at excessive speed when his skis struck a rock hidden beneath the snow.

He catapulted forward 11.5ft and crashed into a boulder head first that split his helmet into two and left him needing to be airlifted to hospital for two life-saving operations.

At one point his family were told to brace themselves for the worst case scenario as the situation was much worse than originally believed.

At the time, medics said Schumacher was likely to stay in an induced coma for at least 48 hours as his body and mind recovered.

But the coma ended up lasting 250 days – more than eight months.

After he woke up in June 2014, he was discharged from hospital and sent to his home in Lake Geneva to get further treatment.

Since then his wife Corinna and his inner circle of friends have expertly avoided almost anything leaking out about his health status.

Only small amounts of information have been released including reports that Schumacher was in a wheelchair but can react to things around him.

In 2019, it was said that Schumacher was set to undergo breakthrough stem cell therapy in a bid to regenerate and rebuild his nervous system.

Renowned France cardiologist Dr Philippe Menasche, who had operated on him previously, was set to carry out the treatment that would see cells from his heart go to his brain.

Following the treatment at the Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, he was said to be “conscious”, although few other details were given about his state.

Find the bird in 12 seconds[/caption]

How quickly can you solve the challenge?

Don’t be distracted by the aeroplanes, sun, hot air balloons, kites or clouds – you will need to concentrate carefully to find the bird.

Use a timer to put yourself to the test against the clock.

Make sure to scan every nook and cranny of this tricky brainteaser.

You will need great attention to detail and composure to succeed in this challenge as all is not what it seems.

Picture puzzles are a form of brain teaser that tests the reader’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

These challenges have the potential to boost intelligence and improve concentration.

If you find this challenge too easy, or enjoy testing your brain, have a look at our other optical illusions.

To make things harder, try figuring out what’s wrong with this image of smiling women as you count their legs in 11 seconds.

Or you might want to prove you have a 20/20 vision as you search for a strawberry in this carnival scene.

Did you know that optical illusions have an array of benefits for your mind and body?

How can optical illusions and brainteasers help me?

Engaging in activities like solving optical illusions and brainteasers can have many cognitive benefits as it can stimulate various brain regions.

Some benefits include:

  • Cognitive stimulation: Engaging in these activities challenges the brain, promoting mental agility and flexibility.
  • Problem-solving skills: Regular practice enhances analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Memory improvement: These challenges often require memory recall and can contribute to better memory function.
  • Creativity: They encourage thinking outside the box, fostering creativity and innovative thought processes.
  • Focus and attention: Working on optical illusions and brainteasers requires concentration, contributing to improved focus.
  • Stress relief: The enjoyable nature of these puzzles can act as a form of relaxation and stress relief.

Psychologists at The University of Glasgow found that staring at an optical illusion can improve eye sight by allowing you to see small print.

Escape London says puzzles can also give your mind a great workout and may “boost your brain’s activity” which “reduces the risk of dementia.”

Still haven’t found the little bird?

Here’s a helpful hint: It is rested on a cloud.

If you’ve found the bird in less than 12 seconds, well done!

Arne Slot record: New Liverpool manager officially best Reds boss ever after record-breaking start to Anfield career

ARNE SLOT has made a record-breaking start to his Anfield reign.

The Dutchman officially has the BEST EVER start of any Liverpool manager after the Reds earned a 2-0 win over Serie A side Bologna.

Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager in history to win as many as eight of his first nine games[/caption]

It’s eight wins from a possible nine for Slot – a feat not managed by any of his predecessors.

Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah either side of half-time saw Liverpool climb into the top eight of the European table.

When informed of his record milestone, Slot told TNT: “It’s nearly impossible to do something special at this club.

“It says a lot about where we started off, about how the players bought into it, how much effort they put in and how much the staff helped me as well to create this start.

“But I hope I am remembered for more than that. It says everything about what Jurgen left at this club. I am hoping to do more special things.”

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table with 15 points after six games, after wins over Ipswich, Brentford, Manchester United, Bournemouth, West Ham and Wolves.

Slott has only dropped points once this season – in a shock 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, courtesy of Callum Hudson-Odoi.

But Liverpool have maintained a 100 per cent Champions League record this season, having also beaten AC Milan 3-1 last month.

But the Reds face some tricky fixtures in RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen before hosting current champs Real Madrid, and Lille.

And Slot can set another record if he wins against Madrid next month – as Liverpool haven’t beaten the LaLiga giants since the 2008-09 Round of 16.

The two European giants have played eight times since then, with Madrid winning all but one encounter – a 0-0 draw in one leg of the 2020-21 quarter-finals.

Slot has only had to make slight cosmetic tweaks to the squad left by club legend Klopp.

Federico Chiesa‘s £11m arrival from Juventus was his only new signing, with the winger currently out injured with a foot issue.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will join at the start of the 2025-26 season, pending the end of Alisson‘s current contract in 2027.

Results of Arne Slot's first nine Liverpool games

Ipswich Town 2-0 Liverpool (Premier League)

Liverpool 2-0 Brentford (Premier League)

Man United 3-0 Liverpool (Premier League)

Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest (Premier League)

AC Milan 1-3 Liverpool (Champions League)

Liverpool 3-0 Bournemouth (Premier League)

Liverpool 5-1 West Ham (League Cup)

Wolves 2-1 Liverpool (Premier League)

Liverpool 2-0 Bologna (Champions League

Klopp had chanted Slot’s name in his final address to 60,000 fans at Anfield on the final day of last season.

The former Feyenoord boss stepped into huge shoes when he succeeded Klopp in the summer.

The German enjoyed a glittering nine-year reign on Merseyside, winning the Champions League and Premier League.

What is more, Slot was not the only one breaking records for Liverpool on the night.

Salah became the first Liverpool star to score in five consecutive Champions League home matches.

He also became the only player to score and assist in nine Champions League games for any English club.

Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, who blew open their title surge last season, at 12:30pm on Saturday.

With even harder games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Aston Villa to come.

Exact date millions of British Gas customers must submit an energy meter reading to avoid billing errors

A MAJOR energy supplier has warned customers when they should take a meter reading to avoid facing unexpected bills.

Millions of households must submit a meter reading to ensure their British Gas bill is accurate amid the fresh energy price cap.

a person is holding a device that says edf on it
Submitting your meter reading each month can prevent your supplier from estimating your usage

The energy supplier confirmed that to have an accurate price reading, the final date to submit an energy reading is October 14.

However, you should aim to take the reading as close to the price cap change as you can, which was revealed on October 1.

British Gas customers can technically take and submit meter readings anytime, but doing it any point after October 14 might mean their next bill is estimated.

The new energy price cap, which limits the amount that can be charged, will be around 10% higher than the current level which has been in place since July.

A household in England, Wales and Scotland using a typical amount of gas and electricity will now see their annual bill rise by about £149 to £1,717.

The price cap makes sure that prices for people on a standard variable tariff are fair and that they reflect the cost of energy.

The way it is calculated is based largely on the current wholesale energy prices, as well as other factors such as network, operating and policy costs, and VAT.

The energy price cap changes every 3 months – in June, the cap fell to the lowest level in two years, from £1,690 to the current rate of £1,568.

However, from October 1, Ofgem, which sets the limit, revealed that bills will rise from £1,568 to £1,717.

Households will have until October 14 to submit the reading from the first day of the month – meaning they must remember to take the reading on October 1.

Customers will be able to submit their readings via their online account, the British Gas mobile app, or an automated line.

If you are concerned about the new price cap, British Gas have also been working to provide support for households through their Families and Individual Support Fund.

This is for British Gas customers and non customers who are in debt over their energy bill.

To apply, go to the British Gas fund or search “British Gas Support Fund” where the eligibility requirements are detailed.

Who should submit a meter reading?

Households who are on an SVT should submit regular meter readings to prevent their supplier estimating their usage.

In total, there are around 28 million SVT users in the UK.

For these households it is especially important to submit a meter reading now, to avoid any disputes when the price cap comes into effect.

If your bill’s not accurate, you could be charged more than you should – and if you’re charged less, you could end up owing money down the line.

Meanwhile, customers with smart meters do not need to submit a reading, as this is automatically sent by the device.

And those on prepayment plans or fixed rates also do not need to worry, as their bill is either predetermined, or their rate is locked in for the duration of their deal.

If you are unsure what plan you are on, go to your suppliers website or revisit paperwork from when you began your energy package.

What is the deadline for other suppliers?

EDF

EDF customers will be able to back date their meter reads at any time up to and including Wednesday October 9.

They can submit meter reads through the EDF App, their online MyAccount, or via telephone, email, text and WhatsApp.

Octopus

If you’re a customer with Octopus Energy, you should register your meter reading on, or close to, the exact date October 1 if you want an accurate figure.

Scottish Power

Scottish Power has no deadline for meter readings. Customers can update meter readings as and when they wish to provide them.

If you are on a standard variable or default tariff with Scottish Power, then the energy price cap will automatically apply.

However, if your prices need to increase as a result, there’s no need to contact them.

Scottish Power said: “We’ll write to you by letter or email to let you know what your new prices will be before the change takes place.”

Ovo Energy

Ovo Energy customers can submit their meter readings via the app, online account, phone, Whatsapp or webchat at any time, however the closer to the bill date the customer provides their bill date, the less of the bill will need to be estimated.

For accurate bills, Ovo recommends customers opt for a smart meter.

Utilita

Utilita said that “the vast majority of Utilita customers – in excess of 90% – don’t have to worry about the hassle of submitting meter readings because they have a smart meter”

If you aren’t sure of the deadline for your supplier, review the conditions of your arrangement via the company website or paperwork.

To be safe, we recommend you submit the reading on or before October 1 anyway, so you don’t risk missing the deadline.

How do I calculate my energy bill?

BELOW we reveal how you can calculate your own energy bill.

To calculate how much you pay for your energy bill, you must find out your unit rate for gas and electricity and the standing charge for each fuel type.

The unit rate will usually be shown on your bill in p/kWh.The standing charge is a daily charge that is paid 365 days of the year – irrespective of whether or not you use any gas or electricity.

You will then need to note down your own annual energy usage from a previous bill.

Once you have these details, you can work out your gas and electricity costs separately.

Multiply your usage in kWh by the unit rate cost in p/kWh for the corresponding fuel type – this will give you your usage costs.

You’ll then need to multiply each standing charge by 365 and add this figure to the totals for your usage – this will then give you your annual costs.

Divide this figure by 12, and you’ll be able to determine how much you should expect to pay each month from April 1.

What is the British Gas Support Fund?

If you are concerned about facing the new price cap this winter, British Gas has reopened its Individual and Families support fund.

The trust has helped more than 21,000 British customers in the past, with energy debt write off grants of up to £2,000.00.

Their current package is bigger than ever, with over £140 million set aside to help those who are struggling financially.

Unlike many other supplier grants, The British Gas scheme extends to both British Gas customers and non-customers.

However, there are certain requirements to be eligible for the fund.

Pre-payment meter customers must be within £50 and £1,700 of energy debt.

They must also live in England, Scotland or Wales, and have not received a grant from the British Gas Energy Trust within the last 2 years.

It is recommended that customers from companies with hardship funds first seek assistance from their own schemes.

The applicant must be able to show a sustainable position moving forward.

If you are eligible, British Gas can offer:

  • Free energy grants
  • Energy advice for vulnerable households
  • Tailored support for households and small business customers
  • Funding for small businesses and charities

Scottish power, Utilita, EDF, E.ON and Utility Warehouse are also offering support schemes for their customers.

Go to your energy provider’s website to learn what help is available.
