The Apprentice’s Tom Pellereau reveals secret to 13-year partnership with Lord Sugar after BBC star ditched 8 winners

THE Apprentice’s Tom Pellereau has revealed the secret to his 13-year partnership with Lord Sugar – after the BBC star ditched at least eight other winners.

Tom, 45, was the first candidate to secure a £250,000 investment prize from Lord Sugar – rather than a job at one of his companies – when he won in 2011.

It was money well spent, as Tom has gone on to build a multi-million pound business and a hugely successful Stylideas brand.

Last month, Tom launched seven new products and Lord Sugar was there to support him in person.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online afterwards, Tom revealed all about his partnership with the 77-year-old business icon, and how it had managed to be one of the few to achieve longevity from the show.

He said: “So we have a board meeting at least every two months for a couple of hours.

“He loves products. I always have to take the latest items along.

“He loves touching them, feeling them, giving them a bit of feedback, and he especially likes the packaging stage and the beginning of the marketing stage.

“When he saw the latest packaging of the different ones, he was like, ‘These are really good. You know, this is really coming together nicely.’

“He does usually get very hands on with the products and trying them out.”

While Lord Sugar was impressed by Tom’s latest efforts, he isn’t afraid to be blunt when required.

He explained: “He has always put a lot of pressure on me to succeed.
He’s been like that kind of headmaster that just gives you a hard time.

“And people sort of say, ‘you know, he does quite like you’. And you’re like, ‘Oh, he’s got a very funny way of showing it’. But we’ve had some ups and some downs.”

Despite this, their partnership has endured much longer than many other winners of The Apprentice.

The Mirror revealed earlier this year – before the latest series – that only two of the last 10 winners were still in business with Lord Sugar.

They are boxing gym owner Marnie Swindells, who won last year, and 2013 winner Dr Leah Totton, who runs cosmetics clinics.

Meanwhile some of those who have ended their working relationship with Lord Sugar include 2022 winner Harpreet Kaur, 2016 winner Alana Spencer and joint 2017 winners Sarah Lynn and James White.

I think there was less synergy

Tom Pellereau

Discussing why he thinks he has bucked the trend, Tom said: “I think it’s really helped me that I do products, and that was his origin.

“You know, he started with car aerials, car stereos, then consumer electronics, so he really likes products and he has a lot to offer me in terms of helping with retailer dealings and with suppliers and that sort of thing.

“I think some of the other businesses, which were a bit different, I think maybe there was less synergy, so to speak.”

The Apprentice biggest moments

THE Apprentice has been a fan favourite ever since it burst onto the box in 2005.

Here we take a look at five of the biggest moments over the years on the hit BBC One show.

Tim Campbell – Former London Underground transport manager Tim Campbell won the first series of the reality show in 2005. He is now one of Lord Sugar’s aides on the show.

Sarah Lynn and James White – For the first and only time in the show’s history, both finalists were crowned winners in 2017.

Amy Anzel – Season 16’s fired candidate Amy Anzel was BANNED from the final celebration show, after a tit-for-tat exchange over Lord Sugar’s mocking tweets.

Michelle Dewberry – Telecoms consultant Michelle Dewberry won the second series of the show in 2006. However, after winning a six-figure job with Lord Sugar she lasted just four months before she sensationally quit.

Selena Waterman-Smith – We’re used to tensions running high in the boardroom, but in 2015 a disagreement between two candidates spilled over – for the first time – into a physical bust-up. Events manager Selina Waterman-Smith was given a verbal warning by show bosses for her role in an off-camera scrap with Charleine Wain.

Tom has also had to juggle growing his business with his personal life, which has changed a lot since he won The Apprentice.

He said: “It’s been hard work. I have had children. So I’ve had two children in that time and I wasn’t even married at the beginning.

“So life has been incredible for those 13 years.”

‘Is she a vampire?’ gasp Gwen Stefani fans who can’t believe her ‘real age’ as she celebrates milestone birthday

The pop star stunned in denim shorts earlier this month

Gwen flashed her toned pins in a pair of fishnet tights and black heels and put her toned abs on display in a crop top.

She appeared on The Jennifer Hudson show on Wednesday, but her youthful looks left many viewers distracted.

The songstress styled her blonde tresses in loose curls and added a pop of colour with some rouge lipstick.

Actress, singer and host Jennifer, 43, shared a clip of Gwen backstage as she made her way down the corridor while the crew cheered her on.

Wowing fans with her look, one wrote: “How is she in her 50s???”

A second replied: “For real! That’s what I kept thinking the whole time.”

A third said: “She is aging gracefully. 54 looks so stunning on her.”

A fourth posted: “Can we just talk about how this woman doesn’t age?”

“No way is she 55! Aging like the finest wine,” this person commented.

While another joked: “I’m convinced Gwen Stefani is a vampire, because how does she still look this good at 55.”

Earlier this month, she dazzled in a pair of denim hotpants on the release of her her latest track Somebody Else’s.

She also put on a showstopping look in a white frill dress alongside pop star Dua Lipa.

Gwen captioned it: “Got to hang with the prettiest girl in the world last night love you Dua.”

During her appearance on the talk show, Gwen opened up about her sweet relationship with Blake Shelton.

“The thing about Blake is that you’ll never get through a day without laughing,” Stefani said.

“You know what I mean? Which is just— it doesn’t even matter like what’s going on.

“The guy has so much patience, and so much kindness in his heart.”

“It just makes you happier every single day.”

Last week, Gwen hinted at exciting new career news with husband.

The Hollaback Girl singer confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a first look at her album cover.

In the picture, Stefani is seen laying on a motel bed in a brown plaid suit and a cowboy hat, staring at the camera while holding a single long-stemmed white rose.

Fittingly, the album will be called ‘Bouquet’, and seems to suggest she will be heading towards a more country sound for the new tracks.

Alongside the cover, Stefani also shared the release date AND the tracklist, confirming the release will contain Purple Irises, a track she’s previously-released with her husband, country singer Blake Shelton.

Alongside the snaps she wrote: “my fifth studio album, ‘Bouquet’, will be in full bloom on November 15th”

She added the first single, ‘Somebody Else’s,’ will be available from tomorrow – leaving fans

Stefani has never been afraid to shake up her sound throughout her career, becoming a household name in the 90s with rock band No Doubt.

Shooting to the top of the charts with songs including Don’t Speak and Just A Girl, she later branched out on her own to embrace a more RnB inspired sound, before leaning more towards Japanese-inspired imagery and pop.

Through her four solo albums, songs including Hollaback Girl, What You Waiting For, Let Me Blow Your Mind (feat. Eve) and Sweet Escape (feat. Akon) have all entered the UK Top 10.

Her last album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, was festive themed and released in 2017.

She’s also appeared on seven seasons of The Voice US, and will be returning to the show for the 2024 season, which starts next week.

Rare new error discovered on King Charles £1 coins and it could be worth £1,000s if you spot it in your change

AN unearthed rare King Charles III coin could be sitting in your spare change worth thousands of pounds.

All new £1 coins are made with two metal rings but one error piece has been spotted that could be worth a fair amount.

A rare “Bee” £1 has been spotted by collectors who have[/caption]

“Bee” £1 coins were first put into general circulation in August this year with three million making their way into tills and pockets.

But an error version of the coin appears to have also entered circulation, which instead of being struck with nickel-plated brass alloy on the inner ring and nickel brass on the outer ring, is all brass.

The rare piece still comes with the King’s portrait on the front side and two bees on the reverse side, in honour of the monarch’s loves of nature.

The rare piece was highlighted on TikTok by the @coincollectingwizard, with the user saying it could be worth a fortune.

Change Checker, which writes blogs on rare coins in the UK, said it had not seen the coin previously.

However, it said a similar error coin was released in 2017 that sold for £2,375.

Other £1 error coins have been known to sell for up to £2,500.

Rachel Barnes, coin specialist at Change Checker, said the error coin released in 2017 was believed to have been struck in error when an old round pound blank was mistakenly used, or the brass outer ring did not have the middle punched out.

She added: “We could likely see the same thing here (with the bee £1 coin), which will undoubtedly make the error coin incredible sought-after.”

Rachel also said that as few of the coin have been found, if you do stumble across the error version, to make sure you get it verified by The Royal Mint, the official maker of British coins.

A spokesperson for The Royal Mint added: “The Royal Mint has tight quality controls in place and the chance of encountering any UK coin with error is exceptionally low.

“We always urge collectors to be cautious and to do their research.”

How to spot if your coin is rare

The most valuable and rare coins are usually the ones with low mintage numbers or an error.

A mintage number relates to how many of a certain coin were made, so the lower the number, the rarer and, generally, the more valuable a coin is.

Meanwhile, error coins are pieces that were incorrectly struck during the manufacturing process.

The ultra-rare “lines over face” 50p error coin is one such coin, which has been known to sell for £1,500 in the past.

Meanwhile, others with little-known designs have been known to sell for up to £3,000.

How to sell a rare coin

There are three ways you can sell rare coins – on eBayFacebook, or in an auction.

If you’re selling on Facebook, there are risks attached.

Some sellers have previously been targeted by scammers who say they want to buy a rare note or coin and ask for money up front to pay for a courier to pick it up.

But the courier is never actually sent and you’re left out of pocket.

Rather than doing this, it’s always best to meet a Facebook seller in person when buying or selling a rare note or coin.

Ensure it’s a public meeting spot that’s in a well-lit area and if you can, avoid using payment links.

Next, you can sell at auction, which is generally the safest option.

You can organise this with The Royal Mint’s Collectors Service.

It has a team of experts who can help you authenticate and value your coin.

You can get in touch via email and a member of the valuation team will get back to you.

You will be charged for the service though – the cost varies depending on the size of your collection.

You can also sell rare coins on eBay.

But always bear in mind, you will only make what the buyer is willing to pay at that time.

You can search for the same note or coin as you have to see how much the same one has sold for on the website previously.

This can help give you an indication of how much you should sell it for.

How to spot valuable items

COMMENTS by Consumer Editor, Alice Grahns:

It’s easy to check if items in your attic are valuable.

As a first step, go on eBay to check what other similar pieces, if not the same, have sold for recently.

Simply search for your item, filter by “sold listings” and toggle by the highest value.

This will give you an idea of how much others are willing to pay for it.

The method can be used for everything ranging from rare coins and notes to stamps, old toys, books and vinyl records – just to mention a few examples.

For coins, online tools from change experts like Coin Hunter are also helpful to see how much it could be worth.

Plus, you can refer to Change Checker’s latest scarcity index update to see which coins are topping the charts.

For especially valuable items, you may want to enlist the help of experts or auction houses.

Do your research first though and be aware of any fees for evaluating your stuff.

As a rule of thumb, rarity and condition are key factors in determining the value of any item.

You’re never guaranteed to make a mint, however.

Man Utd fans in travel CHAOS and risk missing Porto game as flight hit by massive delay.. but compensated with free beer

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are having nightmare trying to get to Porto for tonight’s Europa League clash.

The Europa League match at the Estadio do Dragao kicks-off at 8pm.

Man Utd fans should make the match just in time[/caption]

But several United fans remain stuck at Manchester Airport as their flight has been severely delayed.

The AlbaStar plane was set to leave at 7.50am this morning and land in northern Portugal two hours and 25 minutes later.

But a technical issue meant the flight was stuck 1,344 miles away in Rome.

It finally departed Manchester Airport at 3.20pm, meaning fans will just about make it to the game in time.

The delayed passengers were reportedly given a £6 drink voucher while they waited in the departure lounge.

That would have covered the cost of a bottle of Corona from Bar MCR – but not a Budweiser or Peroni.

Man Utd players also had a disaster journey to Porto and were delayed by three hours due to the weather.

They were due to take off at 3pm yesterday but the rain meant they were not in the air until 6.10pm.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

The delay saw Erik ten Hag‘s press conference pushed back by hour-and-a-half to 8.30pm.

He reportedly has two games to save his job after a disastrous start to the season, with the likes of Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel linked with replacing him.

And ahead of facing Porto, Ten Hag said: “As always when we are not winning, we are very disappointed and we are also mad, mad with ourselves and especially when you lose a game like Sunday.

“We are mad and from the madness we have to get motivation and go on to the next game.

“Everyone has to take responsibility and that starts with me as the manager. But on the pitch we have leadership skills and they have to stand up.

“Every game for us is important and every opponent is 100 per cent motivated. We have to be ready to compete and fight.”

Man Utd ratings vs Tottenham

MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a 3-0 thrashing against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half for fouling James Maddison, forcing Erik Ten Hag’s side to play with 10 men against Ange Postecoglou’s team.

After back-to-back draws against Crystal Palace and FC Twente fans hoped United would redeem themselves against Spurs.

However, the match at Old Trafford quickly turned sour. Brennan Johnson scored early and things worsened when Fernandes was sent off allowing Spurs to extend their lead to 3-0.

And here is how SunSports Charlie Wyett rated the Manchester United stars.

Andre Onana – 5

Stood his ground to deliver a good save from Timo Werner who was clean through – no chance for either goal.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

First in the refs’ book for chopping down Destiny Udogie. Could also have blocked Micky van de Ven for the goal. Just watched Solanke make it 3-0.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4

Shocking first half. Failed to cut out the cross from Micky van de Ven which led to the first goal.

Lisandro Martinez – 5

Switched off for the Spurs goal and was drawn to the ball and Johnson was left unmarked.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Gave the ball away in dangerous areas and struggled against Johnson.

Manuel Ugarte – 5

Suffered a stinker and was lucky to last until the 73rd minute.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5

Not one of his better performances and was taken off just before half-time following Fernandes’ sending-off.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Over-ran the ball for Tottenham’s first. Way off the pace.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

Arguably the worst captain in United’s history. Deserved red card for his challenge on James Maddison.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6

Had United’s only chance in the first half but hit the outside of the post. Improved in the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

Looked completely lost up front – threatening to be another poor Erik ten Hag signing. Replaced at half-time.

Subs:

Mount (for Mainoo 45)  5, Casemiro (for Zirkzee 46) 7, Hojlund (for Rashford 73) 5, Eriksen (for Ugarte 73) 5.
